It's of course easier when you get a bit of luck in the opening lap and sail clear of trouble but I really enjoyed that. Qualified 6, finished 3.  *drunk guy biting medal and flicking the Vs.gif*

I think my main achievement might still be surviving an hour of Spa without binning it. Had a couple of close moments but nothing too drastic, for what I think is the first time. Holy crap seeing we suddenly had over 20 on the grid was intimidating!

Wow, what a race. I also got lucky with other drivers dropping back or out, but I had some solid pace throughout and finished 4th! Very very happy with that!

I nearly T-boned that car who lost it in Pouhon in the first or second lap, but I juuuust managed to brush him with the side of my car. 11 seconds of damage but the car was still able to keep up with race pace. I was behind @EuroVapeSim2 and @milko for a while with Hugo (Dahappynoobie) on my tail. I just couldn't get past Cilliand and Mike who seemed to have the same pace as me, if not slightly faster.

I shook off Hugo at some point, but when I pitted he was 4 secs in front of me (because the pitstop took me 41 seconds). I managed to close the gap on him and went for the overtake. Pulled away and got @Yannik on my six at some point, who was way faster than me and overtook me. The last 10 minutes I was driving alone, Mike was 22 seconds in front but there was no way I could get closed with that little time and his pace being the same as mine.

Gutted for all the guys who had tech problems or crashes. Hopefully that won't happen next time.

And it was bloody awesome seeing such a big field for a change! 😁

@Yannik Apologies for our crash on lap 1.  I thought I was well past you and Erik after your coming together; so I moved to take the apex, but looking at the replay just now and you were clearly there so I shouldn't have closed the door.  Sorry mate :(

I have to say even getting murdered I really enjoyed that race, was great to have a bigger grid. Was intense trying to close the gap to @milko, one lap I'd go faster then he'd pull the gap back in the next lap, all the while @Meers was doing the exact same behind me. After the pitstops my pace dropped off slightly and milko started to pull away.

With about 15 minutes left go @Yannik had a brake pedal failure and unlucky for me was right on my tail, no hard feeling at all, shit happens. I just hope you get you pedals fixed.

In my panic though to get the car going again I managed to switch my wheel into some xbox tuning mode or something which ends up dropping the FFB when I get it switched back. It is exactly like what happened to me in the 24 hour race at spa a while back. I figured out this week during practice how it happens, on the macca rim I've the xbox button as the ignition and the X button on the rim as the push to talk. Press these in combination and it goes into the xbox mode. I just forgot to rebind these buttons before the race. Without FFB I was 4 seconds on my pace and ended up losing another position in the final minutes of the race.

Here's a clip of my opening lap battle with meers and the crash between myself and yannik.

Haha yes there was a long period where I’d get the gap out to 4 seconds and be like “and STAY back there, you” but immediately make a few minor fuckups in a row and be dragged back to 2.5 or something. Maddening! I couldn’t consistently hit the 2.19s enough to threaten catching second place.

damn that brake pedal failure is brutal. I suppose it can happen to real cars as well, but ouch!

Enjoyed the big grid tonight.  Loads more action.

The slightly chaotic nature of having all these new people about initially worked in my favour (I climbed from 15th to 9th by avoiding the spinners) On about lap 5 I got an overtake lined up on M. Bell out of the last chicane but as I went past him on his left, he dropped his rear wheel on the right hand curbing and gave it a bootful of power, resulting in him spinning, and as he rotated speared into me and spun me through 180 degrees.   Of course hitting me straightened his car up again and he carried on relatively unscathed, while I lost loads of places to re-join back in 15th.

I wasn't very fast tonight - but I was pretty consistent - and that seemed to play out in my favour.  I crossed the line 11th, and simracing.gp then has me listed as being promoted to 10th, with @davejm getting a penalty to finish behind me?  What happened there?

Highlight video will be along shortly...

Un-served drive through penalty of 80 seconds for being a dirty short-cutter  (man, tonight was really not kind to some of you guys was it)

It was great, wasn't it? The opening lap with us so close next to each other reminded me of the exact thing @Valver and I had at Monza a while ago. You can really tell we've been racing each other for a long time! That's racecraft! Amazing stuff!

First lap was like a game of Destruction Derby trying to avoid all the cars which have spun on the track.

@Yannik's brak pedal failure really was a freak incident. How incredibly unfortunate. Hopefully he can get it fixed.

What happened to you, @Erik?

M. Bell thought it was necessary to still race me when I lapped him. He kept driving next to me towards Blanchimont and tried to outbrake me (I was faster) in the bus stop chicane. Not a very considerate driver.

Despite this one niggle though, everyone was really sportsmanlike. Can I just give you a massive pat on the back @davejm for getting that many people together? You rock! Hopefully we can keep those numbers up!

Hey everyone! It felt great to race with all of you again after quite a while of me being absent, I had a ton of fun yesterday!

Starting in P2, leading for about 500m before the collision with @davejm, then making my way back up the order with a shot at the podium about 15 minutes before the end - really cool stuff. Until my brake just packed it in, that is.

Super sorry for ruining @EuroVapeSim2's race in the process, but it hit me completely out of the blue. I shot Venym an email this morning already so I hope to get it fixed asap. They've been super helpful before when my clutch LC went the way of the dodo, and if all goes well, I should be back for next week. Love Kyalami, what a track - wouldn't want to miss it!

Ehh bummer about the start. Made a tiny mistake in noname corner and Audi with that ridiculous acceleration overlapped me before Pouhon. Though I think in any other car but Lexus I'd have lost the lead to Yannik and Dave before T3 anyway. Having reviewed the incident, Yannik was going to go wide anyway and was fully on the outside kerb and off the track as we "contacted" before contact at least in my saved replay. Absolutely nothing happened to him but I was snap spun around and then collected by 3 more cars. In the excitement I forgot we were on voice comms and I could have warned people behind.

After limping back to pits and nearly 2 min repairs I pushed hard the remaining race. Happy I managed to turn 2:18s in traffic with full tank of fuel. Some of the new guys drove quite erratically and 9 or 8 laps before finish I was collected by one of them I had just lapped before T3. Partly my mistake as I was drifting left having fully overtaken him. He missed his braking point by several car lengths and rammed me into the wall for 25 more seconds worth of damage. After that I was turning I think 2:20 and 21s and I still caught Mulders on final lap so it seems Lexus is pretty good at withtaking damage. 😄

Its not my league of course but I would prefer if everyone could at least stay on the track and not use race or qualifying driving in a pack as the practice session to learn the track. Unfortunately there was a driver who in 26 laps in quali and race failed to turn a single valid lap and couple of more who must not have had more than handful of valid laps.

Just watched the vid - that looked awesome :D Can't believe there's 21 cars in the league now!

Is it still a sign up via sim racing.gp? If I'm still on the system can somebody map my name to P. Turner? Would like to start getting some practise in as it's been too long.

I went on a bit of a recruitment drive this week.  We had a lot of pending applicants (which I haven't been approving by default); who found the community via the simracing.gp search tools.  So I cross referenced that list to see which of them had had joined the rllmuk Discord, and accepted those applications.  We also had a couple of guys join from TSR (Transatlantic Sim Racing), a community I found last week (they do ACC racing on Tuesdays).

You're still on the system, but I can't change your name on there as it's site wide.  I'll see if it's possible for one of the mods to change it.

Well, that was an interesting first outing for the motion rig. During practice I immediately felt sick so quickly turned down the 'Lateral G Sway' so it didn't fling me side to side as much, then thought sod it, it'll either work or I'll be sick in my crash helmet like a triple-hard bastard race driver. (Note - I do not actually wear a helmet)

Luckily that tweak calmed it down enough to keep my dinner on the inside. But I still couldn't weave to warm my tyres up. 🤢

Then came the race. I knew I had no pace so resigned myself to just having a 60 min motion test session, but the large field meant there was quite a lot of action in the first half. After a while the motion became less prominent in my mind as the business of actual racing took place and I got stuck in.

It's a shame the plus of the larger field was marred by the drop in overall driving standards though. People not leaving room, and seemingly not understanding what blue flags mean and fighting being lapped as if it's for position. :quote:

No idea how I ended up 7th, but I'm happy with it. I've also no idea how more people didn't get track limit drive throughs. Some people were in a different post code to me on some corners with the track being a 'guide more than a rule' apparently.

And, I must take issue with @milko gaining some of my consistency without my finding any of his pace. ;)

Great race, great fun overall and I look forward to the next one.

That finds the limits of Crew Chief a bit, who surely would be a bit less about track limits and a bit more echoing the "wtf!"

I guess he was just as confused as I was 😄Would've expected more of a tirade as I enabled the sweary messages some time ago - which everyone should do, because if you don't want to hear "come on, this is shit, make it less shit" from time to time, are you even using Crew Chief? 😂

New load cell is on its way btw, should be here by Monday. So next Thursday should definitely not be out of the question.

Guilty as charged on at least one of those counts (not the zero :)......just). I'll admit it sucks. However it's about being aware of your surroundings and knowing when to let through. Eg last night, I seem to remember letting you through, and announcing it over comms way before any issues can occur. That said, later on, I had a driver I didn't recognize closing in on me, I did the same thing and that obviously wasn't quick enough and they decided to punt me at a corner with a dive. So it does happen both ways. Thankfully less so with our community.

None of the above is a criticism, just balancing things out.

Yeah no worries I think you have always had good awareness of whats happening around you on track. I dont expect lapped cars to jump out of the way(they dont need to) but its important that they are predictable and dont block, weave or defend or rejoin track from grass/gravel right in front of you to the racing line on a 4th gear corner... 🙄

Safest and fastest way to let faster cars by is to just drive normally on the racing line but lift a bit on a straight or some seconds before braking.

My crew chief did the exact same thing, told me to pay attention to track limits. And don't worry about my race just like in real life this sort of thing can happen, you gotta roll with it.

@Erik my replay length was set too short to review the opening lap (whoops) so I haven't been able to check. I'm fairly sure I got a piece of your front wing as I passed the accident, it caused my driver's side door about 4 seconds of damage (that I never bothered fixing) but I hope it didn't contribute too much to your troubles. I might well have had room to give more space as I passed you but amidst the chaos I think I briefly froze into holding my line rather than swerve away.
