I have turned a 1:48.3 in version 1.8 and 48.0 before with a full tank of fuel but now I cant get within a second of that. 😄

Did you check the boot for pizzas?

Glad there are some excuses reasons for slower times. Looking at the current list, my best lap puts me... dead last :)

It's any comfort, I've not come particularly close to replicating my best lap since. I have been concentrating on driving with race fuel and in AI traffic though as part of project "stop fucking up my own race", which I suppose is more or less the opposite aim to your new season approach!

...I can't really speak for Monza getting harder, I never drove it that much in GT3 before anyway and with a new car to learn as well I can't really make a useful comparison. These are the bits I'm finding tricky so far:

  • Lesmo 2 exit, roughly once every 20 laps someone's clearly pressing a comedy sabotage button for my car because the back end will suddenly let go and send me into the inside wall. I need to figure out a way of reliably being able to get on throttle earlier so I don't lose time down the long straight that follows, but it gets risky.
  • Ascari, well it's just a bit dangerous innit, but finding a consistent fast line through here and then executing it is quite a challenge.

Sounds like if we average our strengths out, we'd be able to beat Eric! (Nah, not really)

For the first couple of seasons my "wait for them to bin it" technique was working well but, despite how it feels, everyone has gotten much better at staying on the black stuff as well as being faster on it, so now my lack of raw pace is really showing up. A good example was the last time we raced at Monza - @davejm spent a phase of the race spinning out at the first corner every lap, but he still had the raw pace to catch me up and overtake each time it happened.

Which car will you use? You havent signed up yet. I'll choose something nobody else drives that isnt Bentley or Aston but I might have setups for Monza and other tracks.

Not sure yet, but probably the Aston or the BMW.

Ahaha, oh yes I remember that now.  Not sure what was happening on corner exit, it was a nightmare.  Audi feels REALLY safe for me at the moment.

I can't help it but that reminds me of DBZ.

Okay heres one for Aston. It didnt feel as safe as I'd like in Ascari but you can probably fix that by raising the car couple of mm and maybe a click of rear wing. In ten or so laps best I did was 1:48.9 with max fuel which is too much as its enough for something like 38 laps or 1 h 10 min https://drive.google.com/file/d/1frQUGILtNC4gskknaSWrhWBlKZy0Gvn9/view?usp=sharing

Did you ever do anything with the Lambo, @Erik? I still wonder if I bit off more than I can chew this time. NEXT season I’ll choose a safe-above-lively car. Maybe. Anyway, beyond moving BB back to 56% I’ve not done much with it. I can’t even really work out what I want to improve, make it a little less slidey without slowing it down or being less exciting somehow. Which is a contradiction.

in a way Monza is a not-ideal start with learning setup on a new car, when I did a few laps around Zolder with much more downforce it was probably closer to what I’ll end up with as a setup for other tracks.

I have tried it on some tracks. I like how it drives but I dont know if I'm fast in it because for me it takes quite long to adapt to a new car.

Try these regardless of track: raise rear bumpstop range(stops exit oversteer and makes it less bouncy over big kerbs), max toe out and camber, you can go overall 1 click softer wheelrates and arbs. In Monza you can use some wing, up to something like 4 or 5 it doesnt seem to effect top speed much. ABS4 TC4 work well enough, BB 56 or 57 %. Try these dampers, they might make a big difference to how it drives and feels to you:

        "dampers":
        {
            "bumpSlow": [ 13, 13, 17, 17 ],
            "bumpFast": [ 6, 6, 15, 15 ],
            "reboundSlow": [ 22, 22, 19, 19 ],
            "reboundFast": [ 29, 29, 25, 25 ]
        },

Heres some Lambo setups. Monza setup in it can definitely do 1:48s with high fuel load but I dont know about absolute pace. Some are mine and some are by someone elses but I may have tinkered with them a bit. They might suit multiple tracks, for example one season I used the same Aston setup everywhere, just reduced wing and lowered rear for Paul Ricard. No refunds. You probably need to adjust pressures and brake ducts and it might be a good idea to try max toe outs.

Oh yeah did those too of course. Interesting stuff, I will have a play with all that, thanks much!

Thanks @Erik, I always appreciate your advice, lap videos and setup details. I've got the car feeling safe but as ever the issue is with my technique/ability. It feels like I'm on top of the car in terms of predictability and safety, but I just can't make it go faster. One failing I'm focusing on this season my not using all of the track all of the time, and not using enough of the curbs.

As someone once said, if you're fully in control, you're not going fast enough :)

You probably need just more laps and some analytical approach to how you drive. That might need someone else to take a look at your driving because its often difficult to see one's own mistakes or where to improve line or braking or inputs. I'll try to catch you on the practice server.

Apologies for the tagging if you have no interesting in joining.  I've gone back to previous seasons for the rollcall, so feel free to ignore.  No need to explain why you can't or don't want to join, but it would be good to have as many people as possible obviously!

If anyone wants to return and aren't a member of the simracing.gp platform, it's easy to register.  Sign up to the platform, then click to open the rllmuk Community page for an 'Invite' link.  You won't be automatically approved, so do let me know if you register with the site and I'll approve membership.  You can then sign up to the races (any or all!).  There's no commitment to join all the races for the season.

Thanks for doing this! Tempted to jump aboard even thoug still a bit apprehensive about online racing as I often feel that I'm so far off pace that I'm a danger on track. Jumped off another league where the others were so much faster I even struggled to get a quialifying lap in if I botched the first lap and spun or something. Very stressful.

But then again I miss hanging with you fine gentlemen, both in the chat and on track on race day. Might not be able to make every race though.

Same thing as before car wise I reckon? Choose one car and stick with it throughout the season? I'm trying to learn the Macca these days so if you need some danger in your lives and a backmarker I might be your guy 😄

@Kristian Svenning we've literally almost all been through that learning process together - some like Erik and SantoOs joined us while already fast but I definitely wasn't - and plenty of us can't make every single race, those things shouldn't stop you. And we do have a mix of paces in our little gang as well.

You are absolutely right. Silly of me constructing these problems, it is what it is and the only way to learn is to keep on trying and practicing.

Entered with the Macca. What could possibly go wrong!

It was great to have you racing with us before, so I'm chuffed you've signed up again :)

No hard and fast rule over car choice; if you don't get on with a Macca it's fine to change for other races.

Thanks my man! See you on track in a few hours. What was the server password? Can't seem to find it on the event page so I might have gone blind 😮

As an aside, I created a new registration info page on the website (https://rllmuk-racing.com/registration) and emailed every member of the SGP community but no-one has registered :(  We have have 6 applicants but they haven't signed up to Discord and the forum.  So I don't think the drive to increase numbers is really going to work.

But there are 9 of us, so it's not too bad.

Thanks for the race guys, congrats with the win Erik! Had to leave, need a beer NOW haha.

Good to be racing with you guys again. Pretty calm and collected race for me until I felt the chair starting to slide and the game crash. A bit slower than I was earlier today when I practised but not too many too stupid mistakes before the crash. After the crash it was a matter of trying to get back into the rythm and not screw someone elses race up as I by that time was four or five laps behind.

Macca wil be interesting on Zolder, I think.

Have a good one!

Weird night for me.

Didn't qualify very well. Was annoyingly close to getting it right but started overdriving like a n00b. That's bad!

Got going quite nicely at the start and settled in to do some work following a tight group and feeling confident. That's good!

VR hat disconnected at the end of the main straight. That's bad!

I managed to blindly stop before the first corner somehow. That's good!

Having reconnected and got back on the road I obviously lost a lot of time and was a bit frazzled. And then I could hear my kid crying, which my wife can deal with but it's still off-putting y'know. So then I hit the wall for about 1 minute damage coming out of Ascari. First pitstop after just 7 minutes. That's bad!

After all that was over with it was quite a lonely race really, I had reasonable pace and consistency but rarely saw anybody. The long stint meant I was driving a heavy car for a while and then my tyres weren't great by the time it got lighter. I got past @Kristian Svenning with a move that felt good to do, I got past @winky when he spun off the end of Ascari, looked like you were having a bit of a night of it too pal. That was about it for actually seeing anybody else on the track. Long minutes of empty road boredom later I stacked it on the penultimate lap and made @Meers shout at me again while I was getting out of the way towards the wall (but appreciate I'll have looked very dangerous at the time since I'd just come back off from it!).

In the end I finished 6th from qualifying 9th which doesn't sound too bad a result except other people disconnecting and stuff is probably the main reason that happened :)

Onward to Zolder where I hope to drive near some cars again!
