and shall we go on a rllmuk recruitment drive? I miss @Count Buffalos! Among several others!

regarding simracing.gp randoms I'm not sure - more numbers would be good but if they don't "get it" for our usually-gentlemanly style it would be annoying. One thing to get punted in a cup car sprint race, more annoying if it's wrecking an hour or more's worth of effort.

There is a part of me that likes the idea too, but all things considering I wouldn't want to do 1.5 hour races :(  My knee aches after the hour races we have, and is wrecked after the blue ribands.  I actually dread those season enders.

I know we wouldn't be doing the qualifying session, but it's more to do with the intensity of the race without being able to stretch my legs that's the problem.

Yeah I'm still in the same boat re. knee pain. If I can, I try to stretch my leg on every straight (thankfully it's my left one) which is why I can still do the endurance races. But even with regularly stretching my leg, it's still painful after a 2-hour stint. Luckily, it fades off after 10 minutes not doing anything with it.

Yeah! I also asked the guys at Prime Motorsport, but to no avail.

By the way, I will attempt to stream the Spa 24h race on Youtube. I'll put a link in this thread as soon as I have it set up.

@Erik will also be streaming, maybe he can link to his as well?

Here's the schedule (BST = UTC+1):

I'd tend to agree.  I've turned off automatic approval for simracing.gp applications just now; and on the 'About' page I've noted that applications get approved only after joining the forum and Discord.

We could password protect the events themselves too, as there are a lot of people registered to the SGP commmunity that we don't know, so they could still join the races.  But that might be overkill.

The server password gets shown on the event page, but there is an option to require a password on registration (which we've never used before).  That said, we could use our standard server password for that purpose too (so same password when signing up to the event and logging onto server); as you say I doubt anyone but us would know it.

Been trying out the different cars again, and I'm between the Porsche; Ferrari and McLaren at the moment.

I've also been practicing at Monza, and I feel very slow.  My in-game stats show that I did a 1:47.9 here, but I can't even get into the 1:49s at the moment.

@Meers, stream quality is really good, but can only hear the other guys and not you.  Kinda surreal that I'm seeing my old 1070 in action over the power of interwebnet!

For the next stream if you disable the option to say the stream is for kids the live chat will be enabled.  So we can comment on the live chat and give you support! (not that you'd likely see comments until you're out of the car).

EDIT: Game audio could be a little lower overall compared to voice.  Also, change MFD to the timing page.  Stuck on pit strategy page at the mo.

i did a little monza last week, only trying cars I’ve not really tried driving before, and so far I’m not going well At All. 1.50.3 as a best so far I think. Will hop on the server tomorrow if I can and demonstrate with a crappy time!
if your 1.47.9 was pre 1.8 that might be close to on par btw. 1.5-2s I think was the typical increase all else being equal. I’ve usually found it less than that due to general improvement.

Yeah, it would have been well before 1.8.

I can't decide on a car.   I was 99% settled on going back to the Ferrari, but it feels like if I look at a curb wrong I end up in the wall.  I love it, but it frustrates me.

Gonna put some more time into the Porsche, and I might try the BMW.  Pretty much ruled out all the other cars having tried them all for a few laps.  Going back to the Macca is an option too.  I feel really consistent in it, and I've gotta say it just feels the most fun car to drive.

I want to do Lambo but I don’t feel fast in it at all so far. The new Audi feels very composed and lovely turn-in but the times I get at the end are not fast, maybe I could go with it and see what happens if I’m not on the edge of control all the time, or something. I should probably stick with McLaren really but it’s time for a change I think. And I’ll have an excuse for not doing well, still learning the car :)

Gonna do 10 laps in each car, until I settle on a winner.

First round was Ferrari vs Porsche, and the porker was the clear winner.  Felt faster and safer, especially on the curbs.  I know the Porsche can be deadly in race conditions, so need to bear that in mind as I try the other cars.  Parabolica is dicey too.

I hopped on to try out the wheel and get some sensible button bindings sorted.  I have no idea what half the features listed on the options page even are, and then I have no idea what all the buttons on my wheel are named as in the menu.  Chaos   How have I been playing this game for over 300 hours and I still dont know basic stuff!

Did a few laps in the Lambo, which Ive driven before, but it felt so different with the new hardware setup.   Hasnt made me any faster yet, but feels great.    Maybe I should take this offline to DM's, but has anyone with a CSL DD got any tips on the settings they're using for ACC?  I'm running Fanalab at 100% FF and 50% damping, then in game I dropped FF gain to about 85% (it was clipping at 100% over big kerbs) and 1% road feel.

Settings below!

  • These match the Fanatec recommended settings for the CSL DD & ACC, with the exception of 'Natural Damper' which is off.  The game has introduced it's own slider for this since Fanatec wrote their settings guide, and the in-game implementation is better

FanatecControlPanel_zha4XWNaOT.png.74b150cfe77e922737c183404fcc2853.png

  • As noted above, in-game Damper is used and set at 50%
  • I had my gain higher than this, but lowered it after my arm operation so am just starting to adjust it upwards now
  • I'm not keen on the road effects, so have turned off

I did 1:48.3 full fuel 10 lap stint average in RCI prequali but now I could barely turn a high 49. 🙃

My ingame stats for Monza went weird, it was telling me I’d done 1.40.x in the Nissan as my best time for a few hours. I wish! Now it thinks my 1.50.025 last night is my best… and maybe it is! Not sure I ever raced the McLaren here, I don’t have a lot of experience on the track. Starting to get to grips with the Lambo (dialling brake balance back a lot helped) and the circuit, I think (but giving up 0.6s in sector 1 suggests I have a fair way to go yet). I can go about as fast in the Audi too, it’s not as exciting and involving so I’m still having a head v heart debate about that.

I'm finding this for most cars that I've tried.  The first settings I make when loading default aggressive is to change tyre pressures; then brake pads; then brake bias back a LOT!

Meers and team currently running 9th.  Brilliant!! 👍

Sorry for the late reply, didn't have an opportunity earlier.

Yeah we were doing quite well, I think we were 7th or 8th when my evening stints were over. I barely made any mistakes so I did my part well. Lap times weren't too fast but I was informed that they were consistent. Better safe than sorry by risking too much.

When Nico's stint ended, it started to rain, which was perfect timing do do a stop and swap. So I drove in wet conditions and at the end of my 2-hour stint it got dry again. I only had to cut my stint short by 1 lap so that was really good. I really love the wet conditions since the 1.8 update. After Nico did an hour of racing, it was my turn again for an hour and the car was really good - even faster lap times and next to no mistakes.

Then the US guys too over, but they used the wrong stint schedule (we had a schedule update, but they missed the brief). So they were surprised that I showed up again at 6am to take over. After a quick assessment we made sure it was right again and I carried on racing at around 06:40am with another double stint. This time we went into the in-game night and tyre pressures dropped hard. There was lots of understeer and I got overtaken due to that. So after an hour we adjusted then and things were much better again.

During the 2nd stint I really needed to pee (I blame the thermos flask of coffee I had next to me), which probably is the single most challenging thing about endurance racing. It certainly cost me a lot of concentration to remain consistent. But I wasn't tired at all in the end, which is good!

The US guys had to endure heavy rain during their stints, and other issues caused us to drop back to 18th. I managed to get back to 17th at the end of my stint. Unfortunately Nico's PC crashed a couple of hours before the end of the race, so he had to cool it down before logging on again. He managed to finish the race but we were 30 laps down and finished pretty much last I think.

But for me, I am really happy with my consistency. Loving this endurance racing! I think the guys were pretty happy with my performance too.

I also learned that you can start the car for the guy taking over during driver swap: with 3 seconds to go on the timer you can start the engine and they can drive off immediately. Bug or feature, no idea... but it's not penalised that's for sure.

Thanks for the tips! I will give the audio settings a more thorough look. I thought I had it set to kids mode, but apparently not. Weird.

Your 1070 is performing like a beast! Pretty much everything on epic with a few high settings, but not lower than that. And all cars visible as well, plus a live stream in the background. I even have 'real-time' reflections in the bonnet of the cars in front of me! Very flashy graphics to what I was used to. I also had a live pitwall timings sheet running on my 2nd screen, a whatsapp chat, discord and of course the stream. The thing is a monster!

At one point (when I was watching) you turned down the in-game audio a little, and it was perfect at that point.  Well, the audio of the game vs other guys was spot on; but you were just really quiet (so it was strange hearing them talk to you, but not your replies) :D

You had it set to 'Yes, it's made for kids' which means it disables the live chat and features the stream specifically in the kids version of the website/app; which I don't think was your intention.  You want to choose the options for 'No, it's not made for kids' but then choose 'No' for the age restriction.  This means it's a general 'suitable for all' stream with live chat enabled.

Re. my voice - I can hear myself in the recorded stream, but very low volume indeed. I'll try to fix that.

Re. the kids setting - I see what you mean now! I have the for kids option enabled, but I don't think I've seen the restrictions option yet. Having another look. I was surprised that it recorded the audio from my teammates as well! Very cool, that way you can really follow what's going on.

I had to turn the in-game volume down a tad because it was sometimes hard to understand the soft-spoken Nico over the roar of then engine.

Thanks mate, that's reassuring for me. It felt like that to me as well, but you're never sure if it's enough. I managed to keep up with a couple of the front runners, even overtake or pull away from a few of them. It's also a great feeling that one you're in the zone, you really know you're in the zone! (if that makes any sense)

I'm not fast enough to overtake cars for multiple position gains (unlike the other guys in my team), but I can maintain position and defend well enough at least. 'Damage control' is what I'd call it. 😅

@EuroVapeSim2's team did some good business I think. Just out of top 10 but they had their fair share of issues as well. Maybe he can tell some more about it.
