What are you guys using, sound-wise?

I'm using the in built headphones and mic in my old Rift.

Which is currently looking *very* tatty.  (it has seen 5 years of hard use...)

I've got two cable ties holding the USB/HDMI cable in place firmly so it wont twist and break (that is now an irreplaceable cable)

I've run a bit of wire round from the right headphone to the left to get sound running again (because the Rift has a point of failure in a ribbon cable inside the adjustable strap that when it tears, kills the right headphone's ground connection)

And Ive gaffer taped up the right side expandable joint to prevent any further damage to the internal ribbon cable.

What a mess.

Oh and the foam eye surround is in bits.

Still works brilliantly mind you!

If Zuckerdroid announces a decent PC compatible Quest 3/Pro at Oculus Connect later this month, I think I'll buy a replacement headset

Nice! I have never, ever tried racing with one of those (no-one else I know does this kind of thing) so I'd like to try it one day. I doubt my laptop can handle it so maybe for a future desktop upgrade (once I've saved up again).

Where's the mic on that thing?

So I'm using this one:

It's a good headset, Atmos compatible and suited for glasses. Very comfy and light, and amazing sound. It also has 2 volume sliders for game sound and voice chat.

But it uses a USB dongle to connect to the PC. And that thing is its Achilles' heel. Unfortunately you can't use the recharge cable to connect it, ortherwise it wouldn't be an issue. Windows bluetooth doesn't work either, you need a dongle.

If you lived closer, I'd happily give you a VR demo!  Although, TBH you might not want to wear my Rift.  After a while VR headsets dont really lend themselves to hygienically sharing about.

The mic is built into the big black "HMD" (the thing with the lenses in), bottom left I think.  It just works (tm)

Can you not take the USB dongle for your headphones and attach it to a USB extension cable?  Then run that really close to your headset when you're driving?  Would that help with signal strength and reliability?

When I'm not using my Rift, I use a wired HyperX Cloud II headset for sound/mic duties.  That's very comfy.  I bought mine in 2015 for £50 from Amazon.  I can see that headset today is now £80!  Bloody Brexshit.

chasing @davejmand @EuroVapeSim2who were racing incredibly closely together. I don’t think I would have got near either but for the battling,

@milko we weren't actually battling.  I was around 1.5 seconds ahead for the most part.  He got a bit close at times, then I'd get in a good lap and increase the distance a little.

Yeah I would love to say I was battling Dave for the position but the best I could do was stay right on his bumper, I'm still very happy with my pace throughout the race but @milko you definitely had a pace advantage. I screwed my pitstop and missed the box and wasted a couple of seconds lifting onto the jacks, without this mistake I think I would've come out of the pits right beside you or just behind and maybe could've challenged you for 2nd. I'm still super happy with 3rd and my pace overall, really enjoying the Ferrari. It all just seems to come together on race day, I really wasn't enjoying the car during practice the week.

I'm looking forward to Zolder next week, sunrise and sunset so should be tricky conditions and I really enjoy the layout.

I watched most of the race on Yannik's stream until signal strength finally got too bad and it was stuck in buffering.

I tried VR for the first time today, in Il-2. I think I may need to get a VR set and see if I can make ACC run smoothly. 🤔

I missed that stream. Has it been recorded somewhere?

Seeing as we're running about the same hardware specs, I am curious is you manage to get it running!

Haha it's so strange hearing myself on the stream.  My voice sounds weird! :D

Sounds pretty normal to me. Now picture hearing yourself talk in a foreign tongue!

Let's just say that I expected less of the dreaded Dutch accshent.

I use an Arctis 7x headset @Meers, with a Quest 1 for visuals.  It is wireless with a dongle though. I've not had any problems with that, mind you.

It may be because I've got the dongle connected to a USB hub. I'll see if I can switch things around for better results. Think I've got a good idea...

ha, the stream doesn't have @Yannik's voice so you don't hear that he's waffling on about Holy Grail quotes with Meers when he should be concentrating on the road

It doesn't? God dammit, I had that problem before but thought I fixed it :D

Your Dutch accent really isn't that bad, I hear a lot worst even in Amsterdam, plus you got nothing compared to this! 😂

Cheers mate, I'm trying to avoid sounding like that stereotype the best I can. 😆

Emergency potato, LMAO.

Lol, look at that time ! I will practice this week ,but I have Europa League on Thursday so will not be bumping anyone off while getting  in the way. As I said to @Meers last night, my set up is still not fully operational, and I have my keyboard in a really odd place currently, so if i'm on and you want to say hello or just laugh at my returning incompetence, discord is the place to be.

Great to chat to @mrben09, @Meers and @EuroVapeSim2 on Discord last night :)  I regretted dismantling my wheel (CSL DD coming today) before I saw you in the voice channel, but thought I'd say hi anyway.

Yeah, it's great to have had a one-on-one chat again with you guys. It's also good for my rusty linguistics. Need more German exposure as well. 😅

I'm totally not envious of your CSL DD. No sirree, not at all! 🤪

Is the Zolder race this week? I though it'd be next week. I should be able to race but I likely wont be able to turn a single practice lap

We changed the schedule slightly so that @milko could race.  So the Zolder race is now this week; then a week off before the Blue Riband finale.

Right, does that mean we get 2 weeks of qualifying for Imola? Ill have to practice for Imola and Misano at the same time

Yeah, sorry if my request causes you trouble! I can't do next week and nobody seemed to have a problem with the schedule shift at the time. In fairness I need the practice time more than you do! :)

No, the shift works brilliantly for me too - I'm holiday in Cornwall for half term with the kids next week...  so this way I can attend all the races.
