Oh I can't match his braking points or speed either, I try to copy lines and get as close to the braking points as possible while still feeling comfortable over multiple laps. I stick with the aggressive set up, I just tweak electronics, BB and maybe one or 2 clicks or rear arb or ride height depending on the track.
Meers
Well this is basically all I've got. Still made some mistakes so a low 1:55 could be possible with more practice time, but I'm happy with this 1:55.497.
milko
and there was me happy because I just stuck in a 1.56.3! Nice job @Meers. I still got plenty to learn about certain corners in this track though, I know there's time to get if I can practice enough to work it out. I'm pretty stable as-is now though so quite cheerful even if I don't. we take entertainingly different lines and gear choices through so many corners, watching that back! I think I'm right about some but no doubt not all.

I think I'm right about some but no doubt not all. Thank you! I struggled to beat your time for a while in that session. You both are structurally faster than me so I thought being 0.4 off your time was pretty good. I tinkered with my tyre pressures some more and tweaked the caster, toe and camber a bit. Also closed the front brake ducts a bit more as they were cold at the end of the long straight. Tyre temps were much better after that and I seemed to have more grip. I could brake a bit later and had less understeer. The wobble I had in the Courbe de Signes isn't usually there, tried to push too hard I think. Looks like you're in the 55s as well now! And damnit @Erik. 😅 The Ligne Droit du Mistral is taking the piss. In F1 they use the chicane layout and they should in GT3 as well, imo. At the end the engine is begging to be put out of its misery and the tyres and brakes are as cold as Donald Trump's heart. Forget the Pacman stuff, the bland environment and the flatness...the long straight is what's wrong about this track.
Erik
I like the straight. It makes the sweeping right hander at the end of it interesting. One often sees drivers attack it too hard and have massive slides, or bottom out on kerbs and spin.

milko
Lol at those splits. I guess sector two is more or less “the straight bit”? Meanwhile any corner with “Virage” in the title baffles me a bit.

milko
Seriously though my car is set up for stability in turns, but I’m losing shitloads of time in those and almost the fastest in the middle section! I guess I better study.
Erik
I have a 1:52 in the car, easily. Its just the aggressive preset but I lowered wing angle to minimum, lowered rear ride height and straightened toe angles. Thats it.

I love how you can post the fastest time and have about 2 seconds “easily” left to gain I’m not planning on chasing setup any further this week, it feels great. I’ve got more rear wing than I suspect most will use though. But yeah, I’m struggling to judge some of the slower turns still, I just hope I have time to practice enough to get it right.

It helps me that I drove this track in a enduro last spring so I more or less know where the line is. Taking fuel out should should be more than a second and I'm sure theres another second in driving better - especially in the final sector. 🙃
EuroVapeSim2
It's interesting to see the difference in each persons splits, I got a lot of time to make up in S1 and S3 but the straight I seem to be ok on, I thought I was very slow entering the straight but I guess not. davejm
I won't be around tomorrow. I'm just not enjoying it at the moment. Was just taking part in a Boonatix Nissan community race at Suzuka, and was running in 7th. 15 minutes into a 45 minute race and I just pulled over at the side of the road and exited the game 😔 Fingers crossed I can get the bug back soon.

winky
@davejm - Sorry to hear that, Its always good to have you online. I know we traded paint last week and you came off worse when I gave you a squeeze so hope that hasn't put you off too much. I'm sure you will get the bug again soon. I know I go in waves of interest with games and hobbies and if your not enjoying it there is definitely no point in forcing yourself as you wont have any fun. ------------------- Here is a little horror story for you all. A couple of weeks ago my rig tipped over and the rim took the blow. Everything seemed fine initially but eventually I started loosing FF intermittently every couple of laps particularly in the middle of a turn (which is really off putting). This culminated in a horrible cracking noise one night. The culprit was the plastic connector that I had on the wheelbase and it wasn't good: and there was worse to come - four of the pins had sheared off: The wheel still somewhat worked but I assume the pins had sheared earlier hence why I was getting intermittent feedback. I think the mount had been damaged allowing the wheelbase to torque the pins and the connector slipped shearing the pins off, I just didn't notice until the plastic finally cracked and it forced me to unmount and look at the pins. So I invested in the Quick connector (now I need to buy a new rim to justify having the quick connector of course!). I also managed to source a spare connector/wire loom: Fitted them all today and the wheel work perfectly tonight. FF has been turned up and is working, I can now catch slides because I can feel it (previously any loss of control was uncatchable because the FF was not communicating the grip coming through either due to the connection and/or because I turned the FF down when it wasn't working.) One minor problem, for the female connector I forgot to pull the sheared pins out when I remounted the rim. I was so keen to test it I forgot to try! Now there has been no problem mounting the rim and seems to be working but having those pins buried in the female connector may come back to haunt me. Fingers crossed though!
davejm
@winky I don't remember any incidents last week so that definitely doesn't have anything to do with it 😀 it's more to do with life stuff I have going on, which is having a knock on effect unfortunately.

Good to see you managed to fix it (and that such a thing is possible at all). Hopefully those remaining pins won't pose a problem. You need to be smoother. You were getting very loose in exits so be easier on the throttle, and if that doesnt help try engine map 2 or 3 or small setup adjustments to make it more stable. Dave, hope to see you on track soon. Recent races have had smaller participation than previous season unfortunately and every driver more is good. Maybe you too need to experience the madness of 45 car multiclass endurance? 😉

davejm
Thanks for the kind words guys. I am going into each week with the intention of racing; but this week has been particularly tough and I didn't get any practice time (on a track I don't know). So I just don't want to force it. New CSL DD is due to ship this week, so I'll have my shiny new wheels to play with. So I'll try and get some practice time for Snetterton.

Imagine the track as a river, and you are the water finding the smoothest way through. Find the way of the least resistance by becoming shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. I shall try and ease off, and think "cool wet grass" as I flow serenely round Paul Ricard tonight
