My wife asked how I’d got on in the race. “I won!” I say, so she goes “ooh, wow! Did…did all the good ones not play then?”. I bet Lewis Hamilton never got this from that Pussycat Doll he was (is? I don’t really follow these things) seeing.

You're lucky! At least your wife is asking you about the race...

  • davejm changed the title to Assetto Corsa Competizione | Next race: Mayhem on Mount Panorama!

I had a nightmare evening unfortunately been busy so had no time to practice and for some reason no matter what i did to the setup on the Nissan I just couldn't get it too stop I could barely do a clean lap. So terrible qualifying way off the pace,

The race started even worse got to the second corner and for some reason my controller seemed to disconnect and i hit the wall really hard this lead to 3.5 minutes in the pits and when I came out I was laps down.

Will try and work out what my braking issue is over the weekend.

Sorry if I got in anyones way

Well that was a strange race.

I usually get jumped at the start and lose a place, probably because I'm super cautious when it comes to being in the right place and speed when the lights go green. Looks like that saved me a drive though this time!

After everyone peeled off to serve their drive throughs it was pretty much an hours practice session for me with only the excitement of @Count Buffalos reeling me in near the end to spice it up a bit.

Well done to @milko on the win. You were waaaay faster than me and it's only fair that you get the win that you had stolen by the server. To be honest, I had no real idea who was in what position for most of the race as it was obvious something weird was going on.

Not sure I'm gelling with the Merc yet. It's very much like the Aston but a little bit more... boring? It never really feels fast like the 911 or Ferrari do. Maybe it's the lack of impending death or the way just wafts around the track. Anyway, great to be racing with everyone again - still the best online bunch ever. (Although maybe the 'muk Gran Turismo lot are ok too)

You're using a controller? Blimey - you deserve a few bonus points for added difficulty!

I have tried using a controller with ACC before (for the wee lad) but it appears to me that the game is not really suited for it compared to Forza or GT. Very little margin to catch slides.

Speaking of Forza and disconnects...we used to have a rule during our FM rllmuk league races that if your connection cut out after 90% of the race had been driven, you would still be awarded the position you were in when the game kicked you out. This was because FM was notorious for disconnects back then (FM3 / FM4 era). If you were kicked out before that 90%, it would be considered a 'technical failure'.

Maybe it's something to implement for ACC as well, @davejm?

@extremepabs,  do you use a controller through choice, or is it an issue of not having space/family approval/cash for a wheel setup?

If someone in the group has an older wheel they could sort you out with, would that be of interest?

I still have a perfectly fine Fanatec CSR wheel boxed up. No pedals though (but you can use any Fanatec pedal set on it). I used it for the 360, but it wasn't compatible with the XBOne so I got the CSL instead. Shortly after getting the CSL I moved to PC for my racing. I'd be happy to part with the CSR for just the P&P for someone in our group, @extremepabs😁👍

Fun race, sorry to whoever I hit at turn 5, you can see in the replay, thankfully you handled it well and I did not wipe you out completely.

Apart from that I had a great race, with no other spins. My second or third lap was very fast, but never recreated it. A lot of 1:45.xxx times in the race if you look at the fastest laps.

I have a set of CSR elite pedals that I would be happy to gift @extremepabs at postage costs.

They were occasionally causing me issues not getting full brake or accelerator that was fixed by a disconnect / reconnect.

It could be software or hardware or maybe a they just need a clean and grease. Either way I would have probably bin them anyway.

Very unlucky mate. May I ask where you are located (ish)? Maybe I can help you out looking at other options. Are there also other people in the house using the connection?

I live in a city north from Amsterdam, 90% of the city is on one side of the Noord Holland canal and my house is just on the other side and it's an old house. It is only me and the girlfriend in the house and she was watching a YouTube video. We've had connection issues since we moved in last year, we spoke to ziggo but we will still have the same cables going to our house with them.

Weird stuff like the drive-through penalties, disconnects and my pit stop not working aside, the race was good fun! Glad the Porsche only killed me once (and then I overdid it with hot rear tires a few corners later 😑), which will probably happen more often at Bathurst next time out :D
The connection issues for @EuroVapeSim2 and @milko are a shame, hope you guys have used up your bad luck and are able to avoid stuff like that in the upcoming rounds!

@Yannikwith that pitstop, were you set to add some fuel? It's really odd that it didn't count it.

I don't normally have connection trouble (maybe once a year my internet will be completely off for a few hours), always a low ping, and I've not known SneakyNinja suffer it in our races either but that replay shows him warping around, I'm wondering if the server itself was having some problems. No idea how we'd know though, so just got to have fingers crossed for next time.

Ah yeah, if the cables are old then you're out of luck I'm afraid, DSL or cable alike. Unless Enexis is going to redo the entire neighborhood you're in (maybe it's due soon).

Yup. Not much, but a splash that would be enough to finish. Oddly, the car got on the jacks, then immediately came back down and that was it. Worked on the second time around, however, it's a bit of a mystery.

Aye, no issues here. I certainly didn't see anything like the replays portray.

Funnily enough, I had a some broadband speed issues in August where it would only connect at 20Mb. To resolve that I'd had a new router and BT master socket fitted in at the house, and BT renewed some kit on pole outside and even dug up the pavement to tinker with something. It's been a rock solid 60Mb ever since. Just to be sure, my gaming PC and work laptop are always connected via ethernet to the router. None of your dodgy wifi here :)

I've been working at home for about 8 years now, so have always needed a decent connection. Nothing to do with gaming, honest!

My Ziggo cable connection upgraded to 600Mbit/s (40 up) a couple of months ago.

There were clearly some server shenanigans going on tonight.  Looking at the replay file I downloaded, I can see @EuroVapeSim2warping off the track, @milko gets booted out completely towards the end, and there's some horrible warping/lag evident around lap 29 from @SneakyNinja  Cars driving sideways and all sorts.

Sorry - I don't think I can be video editor:

Last night I took part in the second round of the Dads Go Sim Racing "Friday Free For All" championship on simracing.gp

39 people registered, 22 raced.  So still a bigger grid than I'm used to with you guys.

This week it was two 30 minute sprint races at Bathurst.  One in the afternoon and one at night

I qualified 12th, and was very happy to finish 10th in the daytime race, and 6th (!) in the night race.

Great fun.  Good bunch of lads and a decent spread of ability made me feel welcome and comfortable racing with them.

I may have caused a small pile up at the top of the mountain in race 1 though 😳

I practiced in the Honda on "our server" as our Championship race next week is also at Bathurst (which is convenient!), so @davejm, if you see a time in the Honda from me, you can remove it as I'll set a proper 'muk lap in the Ferrari later.
