I haven't had much time with it yet. I think it's down to the fact that they only made 10% ofunits compared to the first mini. Not as many proud owners. I can't believe people aren't losing their shit over the Capcom Arcade Stadiums. I love those damn things so much.

Those are great too. And some of the best CRT filters on the market imo. Still crossing my fingers for a third stadium which includes their late 90s 3D stuff.

I had an amazing session on the MD Mini 2 this afternoon.

I started off on Sonic CD which I've never played. As you'd expect, it looks and sounds terrific, though I think I may prefer the slightly simpler aesthetic of the earlier games. It's full of some really interesting and inventive level design and it plays brilliantly. They've done something totally different with the boss fights too. I think this one will be getting a full playthrough.

I moved on to Outrunners, which I've also never played. It's very fun but I really want to try it in 2 player mode as that's what it's designed for. Again it looks and sounds great.

I thought I'd better try out the new version of Space Harrier 2, which is a stunner! I had a lot of fun with this and they've put a brand new conversion of Space Harrier 1 on there too.

Lastly, I tried out Final Fight CD which is amazingly good for a home conversion, and with the CD soundtrack is probably better than the arcade version in some ways. I enjoyed playing it but it does feel a bit redundant when Streets of Rage exists.

There's such a great selection on this mini. It may even be the best mini yet released (but I say that every time a new one comes out).

It's really a deep cuts machine, I love it.

A bonkers as the cost is, there really is a space for carefully selected playlists of games, rather than huge romlists.

I actually de-hacked my Megadrive Mini at the weekend and restored to factory settings, getting rid of dozens of roms I never played. Curated playlists is where it's at.

This was my big revelation with the SNES Classic which I bought despite a fully-loaded RetroPie setup already in place. Yes it's all emulation, but provided you're not some pixel-counting DIgital Foundry bore then playing the given games with the right pad is a kind of magic that all the Pi boxes, ROM torrents and 8BitDo pretenders just don't evoke.

The MDMiniII lineup didn't sell me but I know if I had one I'd feel the same, I just have no space. This is not a cue for more tiny box posts btw.

I’d like to do this also but can’t remember how to do it. I think it’s Project Lunar I have on there. Is there a guide somewhere?

I still haven't hacked the SNES Classic Mini I bought - I know that they're all the same kind of Pi thing in a different plastic shell and frontend, but as someone who didn't own a SNES growing up, the idea of an officially licensed "new" SNES with a selection of classics was more appealing.

(Oh and I have a PC and an RS97 and a PSP so my illegal emulation needs are kind of covered. :P )

The best thing to do with this is to make it dual boot with the nes classic, which you can do via hackchii. Still a nice curated list but you get all the nes classic games too and a more comfortable controller.

I don't get why people aren't more enthusiastic about it. It's a cracking line-up out of the box, and compared to all other minis the best one yet imo.

1. Probably because most people who wanted to revisit the MD have already bought the previous mini (and possibly put some of these extra games on it already). This new mini is for the ultra-hardcore MD enthusiast.

2. There's no way on god's Earth that the line-up of games has a banger ratio as high as that of the SNES mini. I can't let that go unchallenged.

Never seen one of these before - Scanline Generator for HDMI inputs - the example of Metal Slug in the product video actually looks pretty convincing.

Seeing as the CRT filter on the Mini is absolutely terrible I might give this a go for 25 quid...

I would love to know if this is any good!  25 squids seems too good to be true but then I'm a cynical sort

Sure, there's plenty of classics on the SNES mini, and objectively you're right, but lots of those have been available in some form or other before the release of the mini, so there were hardly any surprises there.

Most games on the MD mini 2 on the other hand have officially been made available for the first time in decades. Quite a few for the first time ever. It's just so much more aimed at a hardcore and enthusiast audience that I think gives it the edge over all the other minis.

Yeah, I really like this!

Personal highlights in this package are Silpheed, high speed edition Thunder Force IV, the revamped Space Harrier II, Ranger X, Devi & Pii, and Spatter (from the team behind 80s Sega arcade classic Flicky). All I need now is some patience til it gets hacked and I can put Snatcher on it.

Be prepared to wait a while - the team behind the SNES/NES/MD hacks have slowed down. They had a proof of concept for the PC Engine Mini, but not much has happened since.
