I barely touched the MegaDrive Mini 1 (western or JP version).  They're gathering dust.

 

I've pre-ordered this.

Tracked down my receipt from the first one from amazon, a few weeks after its release I got it for a bit less than £70.

A rendition of Rydeen was officially licensed for the original 1982 arcade game, but this MD port uses a cover version of sorts.

 

I like how YMO member Ryuichi Sakamoto ending up producing the Dreamcast bios / system audio down the line.

That’s a very generous lineup of games! But about half of them are shoot them ups, which is a lot for a genre I’m not into.

Every member of YMO has done work related to games in some form. Haruomi Hosono released an album of arranged Namco arcade tunes and this Super Xevious remix in '84:

 

 

Yukihiro Takehashi has done a few things scattered over the years. There's an arranged version of Rydeen for the soundtrack he did for Ginga no Sannin on the Famicom

 

 

Personal favourite is the FantaStep OST, though:

 

 

Sakamoto did the aforementioned Dreamcast sounds, but also worth noting that he coined the term 'Neo Geo' for an album he released in 1987.

 

Unofficial fourth member Hideki Matsutake played synth on the Guardian Heroes soundtrack.

I love Hosono's Namco VGM album from 1984 and had no idea about the link with the Guardian Heroes OST. Super cool.

Never played the Mega CD versions of Ecco so thought I'd give the soundtracks a quick listen. Wasn't expecting this epic Vangelis style undersea oddysey!

 

This is what I miss from games back then, when we first got CD scored games they really went all out with the music.

It's a fiver more than the PC engine mini was. Expected it to be higher tbh for a limited run item.

It is annoying that like the Genesis Mini 2 as well, they've cheaped out and just recoloured the plastic power button from the Japanese release. Which also means no red power LED either.

I just let out the dirtiest laugh when the page loaded with the price.

 

The problem is gonna be these will rocket in price once the stock is gone, which means it's unlikely they'll ever go cheaper. So be a mug now or be a mug later?
