I won the Sonic and Knuckles one on the Sega Bus in 1995.

My prize? A T-shirt that was too large that had Knuckles punching a pack of fags on it.

Another Sega Bus winner here!

Must have been in 1991. Was the Original Sonic the Hedgehog - got on the bus and failed the first time (you needed the best high score to win). I realised that most people where trying to get as far as they could as dieing, so i managed to get back on the bus - get a decent score and then once i got to marble zone i stopped the game. Whilst everyone continued to die, i became the winner!

The prize was nothing much though, some SEGA Sun Glasses amd stickers if i recall.

I think I've figures out the Retrobit pad situation. It's ridiculous how many different ones there are. I'm just going to cover compatibility for Switch, Megadrive, Saturn and Megadrive Mini. Please correct me if any of this is incorrect.

For each section of pads there are 4 versions (Black MD, Clear Blue MD, Black Saturn, Clear Grey Saturn) for a total of 16 different products. With the Megadrive pads some are 6 button and some are 8 button (which include shoulder buttons not part of the original design)

Wired USB (£17.99)

Wired pads that work with Switch and Megadrive Mini

Wired Legacy (£14.99)

Wired Megadrive pads work with the Megadrive only.

Wired Saturn pads work with the Saturn only.

2.4hz Wireless (£35.99)

Wireless Megadrive pads work with Megadrive, Megadrive Mini and Switch but MUST use the included dongles.

Wireless Saturn pads work with the Saturn, Megadrive Mini and Switch but MUST use the included dongles.

Bluetooth Wireless (£35.99)

These work natively with the Switch - no dongle needed.

These pads will work with the legacy consoles but only if you buy the appropriate dongle separately (£14.99).

No dongle for Megadrive Mini so not compatible.

There's actually a few more variants in regards to the MegaDrive ones...

The wired, 6 button legacy pads (original connector) are £14.99

The USB, 8 buttons, (face mode button + shoulder buttons) are £17.99

The USB legacy (6 buttons, for use on the Mini with the original MK1653 configuration i.e shoulder mode) are £17.99

Classic Megadrive connector pads should work on the Master System too. :coffee:

Our family got a Megadrive so that we could play Master System games on an Amiga monitor, in colour, because we didn't have a colour TV license. True story.

What I am trying to say is that the Master System output options are terrible!

OG dongles as in - for use on an actual MD? That's astounding news if so.

Edit: Retro-Bit. Aren't they the guys that did some other modern versions of old controllers and they were a bit on the cheapo side up close?

Even better- the Saturn versions have a Saturn dongle. Proper, non-infrared wireless Saturn pads at last. I hope the Dreamcast versions have a dongle for that, too.

It's this Friday isn't it? Hype!

What's everyone playing first? For me it's going to be Darius I think - followed by either Dynamite Headdy, Light Crusader or Castlevania Bloodlines.

Having played all 40 of the fuckers for YouTube in the last month I think I'll probably have a proper run at Shinobi 3 or Streets of Rage 2.

This is all very nice so far from the play I had this afternoon. I love how the UI and box arts change when you change language, which is straightforward enough.

Couple of minor gripes in that the scan lines are too aggressive for my tastes and, predictably, the version of Super Shinobi is the revised version with the bald guys instead of Rambo etc

How much did this cost you in the end (Asian model from Play-Asia, right)? I've got to have that colour one to match my memories. How's the interface and options, usable for a standard English speaker?

I don't believe people actually want the three button pad. It was always a horrible monstrosity of a thing with one of the worst D-pads inflicted if it's time.

its a massive mistake of sega not to include one 6 button pad at least in the european version

Yep. It was £110 inc 3 day Fedex shipping & customs clearance (which was $50+ but I wanted it ASAP, so I’m sure you could get it cheaper if you are prepared to wait/deal with customs).

Interface and options are all available in English if you select English, but this also gives the Western box art. After 10 minutes of becoming accustomed with the save/load options I switched it over to Japanese for the better boxart. It’s a piece of piss tbh.

With Robotnik's mean bean machine the entire game changes to puyo puyo.

I'd be interested in knowing if the trick changes Dynamite Headdy and Contra to the less obnoxiously difficult versions Japan got.

It does.
