This is my personal TOP 10 C64 GAMES for this home computer. Although I didn’t own a C64 in my younger days, I had access to the C64 and its entire library of games on a regular basis. Today I own an original C64 bread-bin and the new full-sized C64.

Looks too good to run an unmodified C64. Very impressive.

It has very impressive animation, especially considering each frame also has an overlay. Probably doable as a multiload though. I really like that parallax effect and the controls look amazing.

The weird thing about the unreleased Atarisoft version that leaked is that it leaked way back then as I had/have it on disk. Like a lot of stuff I had on disk, it was a cracked version, but nothing about it made me realise it hadn't actually been released.

I actually really like Mario Bros (the game generally, not just these versions) and I'm not sure why it doesn't get more love. I think generally, single-screen affairs are seen as too archaic to bother with, but in a lot of cases, these games are still great fun.

Does Donkey Kong on C64 get more appreciation?

The Guardian getting in the spirit of 40 years of the C64. Mainly a memoir of C64 ownership by their games editor. It may spark some memories although I have to remind myself this is written mainly for people who probably haven't touched a home computer since they were teenagers. The comments are very "oh we had one of these when I was 14!"

So I have downloaded a tosec of the Amiga library and I gather the best way to experience actually playing stuff is to have the games installed on WH Load (?), thus making them load faster, for starters.

Is there a complete idiot's guide on how to set that up? Which Kickstart offers the best compatibility? I assume WinUAE is the best emulator?

Thanks!

The European Afterburner from Argonaut was really disappointing, especially in comparison to contemporary games such as Powerdrift and Turbo Outrun. The US is good but a little limited in gameplay. Really, you are better off playing First Strike (by the Thomas brothers, who also coded Buggy Boy).
