Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Recommended Posts

Haven't seen a thread on this already so thought I would start one.

Full reveal is in April at the Chicago Star Wars Convention, it’s made by Respawn of Titanfall & Apex fame (yay) but released by EA (Boo, hiss, etc)

Personally I’m looking forward to this, SW + Respawn should be great, but what do I know, I’ve bought almost everything that’s had SW on it over the years, and got some enjoyment out of them (except Teras Karzi, that was awful!)

I hope that it would be a single player game..... but we know that its not going to be :(

Don't worry, the PC gamer article above indicates famous singleplayer/story guy Chris Avellone is working on this game

It's SP, directed by Stig Asmussen (God of War 3).

Why would it not be? They hired somebody to oversee it whose entire claim to fame is in linear single player cinematic experiences, the sort of thing which does work pretty well with this brand. And with the news that they airdropped Merc-for-hire Chris Avellone in for writing duties, it might even have some decent flavour text.

We’ll be making a third-person action/adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.

So maybe it will literally be God of Star Wars.

Be different if they had it from the perspective of Darth Vader.  Have to hunt down the "good" guys to win.

Well it's officially set shortly after Episode III, sounds unlikely from the official blurb:

Quote

From Respawn Entertainment comes a brand-new action adventure game which tells an original Star Wars™ story around a surviving Padawan set shortly after the events of Star Wars™: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith™.

A single player SW game made by Respawn and written by Chris Avellone, and following on from the secret best Star Wars film sounds pretty damn promising to me.

Worth remembering that it’s Respawn in name only - it’s an entirely separate team from the one that made Titanfall and Apex Legends.

Directed by one of the guys who worked on one of the best games of 2018, and has a guy on the writing team who was involved with one of the best games in fucking history. We can hype.

Yes, I just made hype a verb. :coffee:

Awesome third person lightsaber combat (Jedi Knight 2) or smacking people with glowy baseball bats (Force unleashed)

My interest will be chiefly influenced with which of those statements is more representative of how this looks!

Yeah if I need to hit a Stormtrooper more than once with a lightsaber I’m out.

It’s a fucking lightsaber. They should be in half on the floor.

I'm sure i asked before but wasn't the older SW game the one with that graphical equivalent of interpolation - to get 60fps?

Some new tech that could render at less frames but interpolate the rest to improve efficiency?

Wonder what happened to that tech?

It was only ever a technical demonstration which happened to use that game as a test case, Disney-Black Rock did a similar trick with Split/Second as their target, which also has never been commercialised, unfortunately.

At some point, hopefully somebody will revisit it, as it'll be at least useful for VR, which I suppose has implemented something similar already to combat latency.

Yes, I think EA have bottled it really. Maybe there's too much interference from Disney and maybe they've been cautious not to flood the market with too much Star Wars content and be accused of cheaply milking the license but their output has been poor with the franchise.

The 60fps thing was probably a precursor to the temporaral reconstruction and anti aliasing we see in games these days.

It's a different thing, temporal reconstruction attempts to increase perceived resolution of the final output image while the technology being asked about attempts to create extra frames of visual information and make games run smoother. It has basically been implemented already in VR titles and the PS4 uses a hardware variant to upsample the framerate to 120Hz via a technique called Reprojection, but software variants of it exist for the PC, like Asynchronous Timewarp.
