Hmm that's interesting. I assumed it would simply get rid of the drive like similar systems do. Got a link. Is it easy to install?

I'm tempted.

I'm tempted.

You literally plug it in the VCD slot and it's done.

 

I mean, you have to drag and drop two menu/firmware files and put your games onto an SD card. But other than that it's as close to plug and play as you can get. It's like an Everdrive (or Prof's Drag n Derp for Game Boy) - it's a plug-in cartridge, and that's the extent of it.

 

Professor Abraisive, who makes it, is a proper craftsman. They're for sale here - as bluejmc2005 says though, about £300 all-in delivered.

Ah so the VCD slot ODE is actually out now?! I do wonder how well it works! 

 

I have a terraonion MODE in a White Saturn with 2 more stock Saturns for my disc games. Can't have too much :lol:

I do have to say that the MODE is amazing. I also have one in my Dreamcast. 

 

...actually, I did watch the Game Sack vid on it. 

 

 

 

If you have a Saturn that you don't mind removing the drive from - which is super easy - then I'd recommend the Terraonion MODE over the Satiator for it's much better compatibility, the MODE plays almost everything perfectly. They're both around the same price.

I actually commented on this video, which is a rarity, because he'd completely missed that the firmware had been updated months before the video came out to make Action Replay/Pseudo Saturn Kai carts work perfectly with Satiator.

 

It has no major compatibility issues.

I keep thinking I want to buy a Saturn as I missed out on it first time round. But I keep thinking there's nothing on it that I can't play better versions of else where. Even sega rally has the PS2 port.

 

Basically I'm asking for an excuse to buy myself a Saturn!

 

How does it fair through an ossc? My PS1 looks dreaful through it and I prefer emulating that. What's the current state emulation for the Saturn? Crap?

If you're not sure go with emulation for the time being - it's far from perfect but has come on leaps and bounds in recent years.

 

If you do go the console route there are (non-cheap) cables like the RAD2x and HD Retrovision's component cables (+ adapter) that make it sing, the former direct to HDMI, the latter via OSSC or a telly with component inputs.

Thanks. I was looking at Saturns on eBay. The grey jap version looks really nice but are pricer. Is there anything i should avoid or look for? NTSC or 60hz mod I'm guessing is the only must?

I use the hyperkin cable for my saturn and I think its very good, especially for the money, highly recommended. And yes, make sure you get one thats NTSC or a UK one with the 60hz mode, 50hz sucks. Though on mine the audio L and R were the wrong way round, so also had to use a HDMIU audio splitter, to get them the correct way

You'll need either a step-down convertor if you use the original Japanese power supply, or a replacement one like the SaturnPSU which converts it to a universal voltage (i.e. no exploding).

 

If you get a UK model yeah, go for one with a switchless 60hz mod and you're sorted I'd think. Plenty of extras you can get, but that's the only real absolute requirement.

I sold my Saturn many years ago and do miss it. I'm still tossing up on buying one and ODEing it or just waiting on MiSTer implementation and going that route, with the relative ease that then comes with regard video output etc. Obviously there's something nice about real hardware, but seems we are hitting the age where the boards need recapping, I'd probably want to JP model so PUS swap, probably want to do the FRAM mod... etc! It's all a bit of a headache and an expense in comparison.

In the mean time, I have a question on controllers.

I know you can get the Brawler GEN 6 button pad, and it looks the part - except I've heard it's not really an analogue stick? Any thoughts on how well the "faux" analogue works? Any alternatives with a proper analogue stick, d-pad, 6 face buttons? 

 

This "faux analogue" bit really puts me off what otherwise seems a lovely pad.
