The most beautiful song you ever heard

Tom McRae's debut album was one he never really topped, the couple of follow ups had some great songs then he went off down a path of dreary meandering 6 minute long Americana songs and I lost interest in him - shame as when he was good he was amazing - loads of great live versions of this too where he adds extended endings and angry cellos !

I tend to be into extreme metal these days but I have got a soft spot for electronic music with female vocals. I am a massive Bjork fan and also adore Lamb.

This is perhaps my favourite Lamb track in terms of being "beautiful".

I didn't think Cannibal Corpse's "Hammer Smashed Face" would be suitable so I'll go with this:

The Tim Buckley version is very good.... but this is my preferred choice.

Oof. This just came up in my playlist. It's not for me at all. Sorry

interesting fact: if you play the video but keep skipping forward, continuously about 10 seconds each time, it sounds exactly the same as if you just let it play...

I've been listening to this playlist at work over the past few days, and it's really enjoyable.  So thanks @kerraig UK for creating it.

There are a few 'interesting' choices for sure, but some of the tracks on here - which I'd never heard before - are gorgeous.

I particularly like M83 - Wait.

Yeah the most enjoyable thing has simply been discovering so much incredible music

Helplessly hoping by Crosby Stills Nash and Young has stolen my heart. I'd never heard it before I made this.

Michael Kiwanuka had to grow up listening to some Pink Floyd as kid (or somebody in his band sure did)

That Crosby Stills song is lovely, never heard it before.

yeah, and the same album has Suite: Judy Blue Eyes side 1 track 1, so...

ps. No Young.   I just listed to the album version. It's not the same as on my phone, so maybe there are different versions...

That This Mortal Coil song is one of the best things in here.

This is probably the thing I've listened to most in the last year.

Glorious 1980s gloss.

I could have put any number of songs but it always comes back to this. Hauntingly beautiful but on the caveat it has to be the full version and none of the 3 min nonsense that puts the crescendo in far too early.

This was one of the first songs i thought of too - amazing live - the bass is so intense i can still remember the way i felt the song as much as heard it.  Good old summer sundae @ DeMontford hall.

Others that spring instantly to mind.... But there's so many.

Miserera Mia - allegri - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36Y_ztEW1NE

Iron & Wine - Jezebel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=990kOZxIOKw

Dot Allison - Did I Imagine You - https://youtu.be/ZxjGpGNwe1c

Neil Young - Cortez the Killer - https://youtu.be/c93-UdPz1BI

Levellers - Julie - https://youtu.be/HlMzS502hQQ

Levellers- Another Man Cause - https://youtu.be/ScoJcxam7D4

Nancy Elizabeth - Wrought Iron - https://youtu.be/GxbRJL6VMDc?list=PLGk3e64a6z3nDi_bNCqqVKgY33Vc7Fu1Y

Mojave 3 - Give what you take - https://youtu.be/1-miw2wSik0?list=PLys5FfZiSy8mwnrlJ_o-mztIYz9RrBDyN

In the end it's got to be...  if only for the experience of a nice load of mushrooms, some Don Darias, and watching the sun come up at Beeston castle at some point in the mid-90s with this on in the background.

I've been mulling over this question, what is the most beautiful song? I think it's interesting because to me that's completely different question to favourite, best, most listened etc.

I've ended up going round in circles - Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers comes close, Moment of Truth by Gangstarr comes as a surprising entry for me too - spine tingling and hip hop isn't a common combination. But I think for sheer perfection I just can't leave this one out - a wonderful song covered in a beautiful way:

Edit: or Wish you were Here, of course.....
