The 3DS Resurrection thread

Inspired in part by this thread, I picked up my 3ds for the first time in ages and played some Rhythm Paradise Megamix. Lovely. Although I thought the screen was a bit pokey, having become used to the switch screen, so I thought I could upgrade to a New 3DS XL.

Until I looked it up and realised they had been discontinued, and saw that they now cost £300 or more for a new one.

Turns out the screen in a normal one is fine after all.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call - Has this been mentioned yet? An amazing music/rhythm game which satisfies those Final Fantasy nostalgic urges perfectly. I blame this game for me not getting around to the various replays I keep telling myself I'm going to do one day.

There's a ton of DLC to go with it, mind. I think it's all worth it.

Ive literally just bought a New 3DS  XL for the first time (since getting a gba) and managed to find one for £92 in very good condition second hand with the charger and a bag. Added to that, eBay are currently allowing 10% off any tech item so I got the whole thing for about £83.

Im off training for 17 days shortly so decided I’d finally get one. The prices seemed steep initially but depends upon what particular style you’re after. I’ve seen those SNES ones for around £155.

So I've already said that my eldest and I have one pink piece in Puzzle Swap to get. Wow. After months of taking my New 2DS everywhere I finally got that missing piece today walking down to Morrisons and grabbing a bit of shopping. I am bloody made up, and my sone will be too. I know it's not important in the grand scheme of things, but having set to 1711 out of 1712 was doing my head in. So I will be eternally grateful to the person who got me that last piece!

My sister took her 3DS to Kyoto back in December, and told me that she managed to not get a single Streetpass the entire week, which was a shame.

StreetPass was great at its peak. Pointless perhaps, but oddly compulsive – just love the whole concept of having a ‘game’ of sorts built as standard into a piece of games hardware.

It's a brilliant feature but I hardly ever get passes any more, which is a shame. When I do I still get stuff for my other games as well though. Can't believe she didn't get a single pass in a week though, just shows how little people carry their machines around. When there were the relays it was great too.

I won't be abandoning my machine any time in the future though, got way yo much to play on it still. Definitely one of the greatest games machines ever released.

And I've still got Persona Q 2 to come in June, which I think will likely be the last release from a big publisher.

I found this case recently in my cupboard, that i bought god knows when. Put it on and it spurned me on to revisit a few of my 3DS games. Forgot how good 3d Land is, have been flittering between that and 3D World on the Wii U recently, both great and great time wasters.

Lots of quality titles on the 3DS; is it worth getting the 'new' one? Is it just that there are a few games that make use of it's extra grunt?

Yep, it’s had a brilliant run and there is still more I want to pick up. Persona Q2 is my most anticipated game of the year.

3D land is a belter. I’ve got a ‘new’ 2ds xl but the only game that I have that uses the grunt is Hyrule Warriors. Xenoblade needs one as well. The 3D is better on the new 3DS models apparently as well.

That's a shame. According to my old emails I got it on 25/09/15. which was just before they closed Club Nintendo. Maybe it will appear on the My Nintendo website at some point, they have different 3DS themes available every month.

My only experience of the original 3DS was at launch, but given my experience with the n3DS and the ability to break the stereoscopic image if you sit at the wrong angle still, I would hate to have to use the original implementation without the eye tracking feature. Shame about the lack of support for 3D video as the implementation in all the games I've tried with it has been excellent.

I've had an original 3DS, a 3DS XL, and now a 2DS XL. The original 3DS I didn't like at all - those rubber-covered buttons under the screen, and in fact the whole design was awful.

Overall though the 3DS has been one of my favourite consoles, there's just something for everyone. I love my Pikachu 2DS XL, it's got the best build quality of the three I've owned.

About the new 3ds 3d,it does head tracking with the front camera and ir zapped at you adjusting the 3ds focus point to subtle head movements - so it holds the 3d much better.

I still have a lot of games to play on the 3ds,just need more time. Tales of the Abyss is next for me.

I love my 2DS XL, it's the orange and white one though, would like one of the special editions. The build quality is great and it's massively lighter than the 3DS XL that my lads are using. The lack of 3D is irrelevant to me as I am stereo blind, so it's a great machine for me!

I hadn't played on mine for ages.

I've not got much in the way of software either; Kirby Robot, Luigi's Mansion 2 & Mario Kart 7 and all the Ambassador stuff from an original 3DS I had way back when.

Recently picked up Super Mario 3D Land and Ridge Racer 3D from this very forum and I've been playing non-stop! Love it.

I didn't pick up a 3DS because I was wary of Nintendo's tendency to release much better versions of their handhelds. I'll definitely get hold of one in the future though.

Don't wait too long though. Unless you'll settle for a Japanese one, or a 2nd hand one, you'll have a hard time tracking an unused new3DS (the one model to get imo) down.

I've just plumped for a New 3DS XL. I already have an XL from their launch but due to a resurgence for my love of portable gaming (all thanks to an addiction to Outrun 2006 C2C on my Vita, man do I fucking love that game, it seems to be getting better and better even after dozens of hours) I've decided I want to be able to play Pilot Wings and the original Outrun with the best 3D possible. As much as I love the machine and the 3D effect, my old XL was a pain to keep in the sweet spot.

Is the New 3DS much better at holding the 3D steady. I've just had the chance to buy at a decent price so I didn't read into it again beforehand but I'm sure that was one of the biggest upgrades over the original, thanks to eye tracking or something?

EDIT* Just read up page. Happy days.
