Avoid Paper Mario Sticker Star. Made me go from a day 1 fan of the series to someone who couldn't care less about it. Dream Team Bros is the better Mario RPG.

Another easy recommend from the selects line is Mario Maker for 3DS. It has a single player mode that makes into a sort of Mario All-Stars succesor.

Ridge Racer 3D – haven't seen that discussion in eleven years! It's actually decent, and I can imagine that it can be bought for next to nothing.

It's a pig to find in CEX around me. I picked up Mario Tennis and Ghost Recon for combined total of 7 quid and been trying to get RR3D with the rest of my credit note but I'm probably going to have to go to eBay for a tenner 😕

I need to play rr3D again on my n3ds after playing it to exhaustion on my original model. The rock solid 3d of the n3ds would be a revelation. Come to think of it, Kid Icarus would be amazing too, but I can't face fighting the controls again as a leftie!

Wish XL prices would settle down a bit but they are just going to keep on soaring aren't they..

They are mad. I bought one a pre covid for 100 points fully model with a mem card. Sold it a few months later what an idiot....

I’ve got a new 3DS and an original 3DS XL, both are well used as my kids played on them a lot when they were younger

The new 3DS I have is the ambassador edition and I’ve found the original faceplates, box and other gubbins it came with up the attic, I can’t believe the price they sell for nowadays, maybe £300, so I might sell it for if it a new 3DS XL is a worthwhile upgrade

Is the new 3DS XL the one to go for nowadays? By that I mean is it the best choice for the middle aged gamer with bad eyesight who remembers getting sore hands using a 3DS?

If you want the 3D, if you're not fussed, get the 2ds xl, there quite a lot lighter.

I bought a slightly tatty New 3DS XL from CeX for £140 notes back in February, have they gone up in value since then?

I did think it was a bit pricey at the time, given the condition, but was happy to pay it, because I was looking for right now.

Not having used the regular sized one, I can only say that the XL feels small in comparison to more recent handhelds from Nintendo and Valve - but the screen size is adequate. You get the added bonus of head tracking cameras which improves the 3D effect.

They’re going for about £140-150 for a decent one unboxed on eBay. So no real change since the start of the year.

Never order from CEX online.

I’ve done it a couple of times and never had any issues. I trade-in stuff a lot and I like that I can use the trade-in vouchers online and the online selection is much larger.

Have I just been lucky? Is it known to be unreliable?

I’m using a n2DS XL. It’s got the best screen and is a lot lighter than the n3DS XL. The negatives are that it feels cheap, the speaker Is rubbish and changing the battery when the time comes is going to be a major hassle. Despite having a worse screen I’m thinking about switching back to the n3DS XL just because changing the battery will be easier but 3DS system transfers always scare no matter how often I do them

I’ve been lucky enough to buy a near mint n3DS XL off facebook for £70

Unboxed but I’m not fussed as this one is for playing

Nice. I love my 2DS XL, especially now it's modded. Was able to put the original Ambassador games back on. My first 3DS that was stolen had them, but Nintendo could never give them back to me as it was before there was a proper account system

I decided to treat myself to a £50 eShop voucher today, and grabbed Pullblox and Attack of the Friday Monsters. Both have just downloaded and I’m very much looking forward to giving them a try later on.

I rather fancy the Oracle of Ages/Seasons Gameboy Zeldas too. There’s a lot of Gameboy, NES and SNES stuff there, like being a kid in a candy shop.

I’ve been plodding through Ridge Racer 3D for some time now, and I’ve only made it to the third Grand Prix of the intermediate stage, but already I’m struggling to get first place on the last race. The computer cars are  complete cheating bastards, and always seem to be able to overtake out of nowhere, even without nitrous - and especially in cars that have slower nitrous generation than mine. It’s a great game, but so infuriating!
