You can use any size SD card - it just just needs to be formatted to FAT32.

Quick question, what's the largest sd card a new 3ds xl will take? A Googling says 32GB but the first post suggests 64GB?

Paging @deKay ;)

AFAIK, 3DS games file sizes average a few hundred MB, with the largest being a couple of GB, so if you intend to download from the eShop, a 128GB card should be plenty.

Yeah. You’re more likely to hit the 300 game limit (like I did) before you fill it.

I still play Ridge Racer 3D 8 years after getting it. Brilliant game. Outrun 3DS is arguably the best way you can and will ever get to play the game. Well unless you own the arcade cabinet. Love the screen effects and silky 60fps.

Ooh I'd forgotten that in the period before upgrading to a "New".  Although it'll just make me sad there's not an Outrun 2 3D.

Never had a 3DS but definitely tempted to pick one up I keep looking on the Facebook marketplace to pick up a bargain.

If you want the 3D, get one of the "new" series and (although this is much more a matter of opinion) an XL.

No. Some of the NES games did, but none of the GBA games.

I still find that so admirable. I’m sure all it would of required is a button click to make them available to buy, but Nintendo chose to keep those titles as special cases for Ambassadors.

Is there much point to upgrading from a 3DS XL to a NEW 3DS XL.  Fucking Nintendo and their naming system.  I should probably just wait for the New NEW 3DS XL to come out.

It’s got eye tracking which significantly improves the 3D, if you care for that. With that there’s no need anymore to precisely line up the machine in relation to your eyes. It also has the improved hardware and the analogue nub. But there’s only a handful of games that use it.

I still prefer the non-XL version though. With most 2D titles the oversized pixels are fine but I think the higher amount of ppi works much better for 3D games.

Since Nintendo discontinued the New 3DS it is quite hard to buy a New New 3DS which is a shame because I don't want to buy a Old New 3DS or a 2DS.

So I would really welcome a New New 3DS so that I can buy a New New New 3DS but I don't think that will happen.

My favourite is this Monster Hunter one (which I have on my black n3DS), though the Animal Crossing one my girlfriend has on her white n3DS is beautiful too.

The console is, on the whole, just a fantastic machine. I bought mine (and my gfs) on a whim years ago, after an unexpected bonus, pretty much just to play Fire Emblem and Monster Hunter. I don’t play it enough (I’m historically really bad for underusing my handhelds), but it’s got an incredible library of games, the 3D is wonderful, and all the little (big) things, like the feel of it, the practicality of the clamshell design, the buttons, etc, make for an all-time classic, and I adore it.

I’ve got another bonus due soon, four years after the one I used to buy the n3DS, and I keep considering buying a Switch with it, but I’m still having such fun with the 3DS I might not bother just yet.

I still use my  n3DS XL most days either and have a huge backlog of games to work through. After owning all of the models apart from the 2DS versions (and buying far too many faceplates for the n3DS) I still don't think the design of the machine or its build quality is as good as the DSi or DSi XL. I'm currently playing Ultra Moon on my after completing Superstar Saga and still have loads of Atlus RPGs, Japan Rail Sim 3D and eShop software to go.

The Hanafuda cover plates are awesome as it the theme that goes with them and it's a shame Nintendo haven't added that functionality to the Switch

A huge part of the 3ds’s appeal for me was streetpass and the related games like that picture matching thing. Getting a green light flashing was always ace. Guess that’s all pretty much dead these days though.

Still, we’ll always have A Link Between Worlds which was worth the admission price on its own.

Everyone talks a great deal about Ocarina and Majora's being great 3D remasters (because they are) but don't forget that there's also Starfox 64 3D.

Starfox 64. Portable. In 3D.

Some more 64 remasters would have been grand. Specifically Waverace 64 and F-Zero X. Oh well.

I don’t think so (it’s been a while for me too!), and it also got a bit of a kicking for this, but it was a wise design choice I thought. Rather than fly around with unlimited time, finding the secrets, you had to be really focused about where you were flying to or exploring. Like a Pilotwings version of Minit.

Darn.

I don't have that much interest in the missions, but I loved just relaxing with the free flight in the Nintendo 64 game.  Oh well.

It's the one time they really could've redone everything and I'd have been more than happy to buy it all again. Imagine 3D SNES collections like the Sega ones.

I remember Nintendo were showing off a few SNES 3D classics at the initial 3DS reveal but we only ever got a couple of NES games instead. A missed opportunity there.

My son and I are one pink panel off completing Puzzle Swap, 1711 out of 1712. Bloody annoying. We were 2 away but got a pice just before christmas. Our machines go everywhere with us just in case. And we found out about Homepass just a month after it stopped working. So 1 Chibi Robo Lets go photo piece, one day it'll get done
