The 3DS Resurrection thread

Pilotwings remains one of my favourite 3DS games. There is ‘only’ one island (which it gets a bit of a kicking for), but it’s full of content, and it’ll take you hours to perfect every stage. It’s a lovely game to relax to, and the music is fabulous. Great to play in short bursts too.

If you like JRPGs, the Bravely games are some of the best I’ve ever played.

I second this - I've borrowed a 3DS recently and immediately fell in love with Pilotwings Resort. The 3DS is really well done and I've always loved the Wuhu Island setting. Best music!

I've also played a lot of Rhythm Paradise Megamix which is the best of the series and has almost everything, with the best part being selectable Japanese/English so you can choose the best versions of songs like:

And it has a few new greats like Kitties!

Warioware Gold is on my hitlist as well. I love my 2DS XL and play it all the time, such a huge library to pick from.

But definitely get a Link Between Worlds and the Picross e games. And Pocket Card Jockey, thats gaming crack right there.

I still play Ridge Racer 3D 8 years after getting it. Brilliant game. Outrun 3DS is arguably the best way you can and will ever get to play the game. Well unless you own the arcade cabinet. Love the screen effects and silky 60fps.

Everyone should be made to play through Kid Icarus Uprising at least once to experience a graphical tour de force. Technically and stylistically. I’ve still not been as dazzled by a title since then.

My GOTY for 2012, despite having to hold the console a slightly weird way when playing.

Super Hang-On. Gyro controls and screen tilt. It's absolutely amazing - feels like rocking left and right on the actual arcade bike.

I've just recently acquired a HTC Vive after wanting to jump into VR for years now, but honestly dabbling in VR (even with Vive's almighty room scale) doesn't come close to the sheer joy that I feel each time I look down at a proper 3D game with no glasses on or anything. Fantastic stuff.

I can't believe it's coming up eight years old. Easily my platform of choice for this decade.

Quick question, what's the largest sd card a new 3ds xl will take? A Googling says 32GB but the first post suggests 64GB?

Yes 64gb is fine. Was a bit of a faff getting my windows 8 laptop to format it to FAT32 ( I'll let you know the app I used when I'm on it later).

The more time I spend with this the more I love it. The 3D is brilliant. Graphics (is it really 8 years old?) perfect.

Is anyone interested in me pulling together a series of reviews?

Haven't played it for years, but is there any way to do the free flight without a time limit?

I don’t think so (it’s been a while for me too!), and it also got a bit of a kicking for this, but it was a wise design choice I thought. Rather than fly around with unlimited time, finding the secrets, you had to be really focused about where you were flying to or exploring. Like a Pilotwings version of Minit.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros.

My favourite of the M&L series with not only the most refined version of the timing-based combat system but also pretty good writing for the plot & fantastic music.

Playing this at the moment, it's stupidly funny.

For anyone thinking of picking one up now, I couldn't recommend the 2DS XL more. It's a lot lighter than the 3DS XL and plays the *new* 3DS stuff as well, including the SNES games which are a joy on there. You obviously have the down side of no 3D, which has never been an issue for me as I can't see the 3D anyway, but could be a drawback for some. I have over 100 games on mine, including GB, NES and SNES stuff, and a wishlist of about 20 odd games. It's an amazing machine, with a ridiculous library.

Since I've been thinking about it, here are a few choices, I may have mentioned others above though.

Dream Team Bros. - As Jarik says, so well made

Persona Q - Has an early difficulty spike but stick with it, my favourite 3DS game, no contest

Super Mario Maker - As a weird slice of Mario platforming, as has been said it's not MM like on the Wii U but is fun

Super Mario 3D Land

DK Country Returns - Super slick and a challenge

Ocarina of Time - This is a lovely port, and I assume Majoras Mask is equally good

Dragon Quest 8 - Brings back memories of the original, so I may be rose tinted on this but its great

ALL the Picross e games - Brilliant bus fodder

Pocket Card Jockey - Horribly, horribly addictive

The Ace Attorney games Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice. I'd already played the earlier ones so don't know how the ports of those are.

Rhythym Paradise Megamix - Bonkers with the Japanese audio option as well

The 3 Box Boy games are great puzzlers

3D Outrun - The best way I have found to play this, though I think a Switch version is incoming

Zelda - A Link between Worlds - This is just a lovely game and a must own.

Then theres the VC stuff. Linked Awakening, Wario Land 3, all the SNES stuff, its the perfect console for those.
