Herogasm was changed from the comics where it's a (comics spoiler)

Vought sponsored corporate retreat for Supes. That publically is about training etc but is basically an long orgy

IIRC from the comics

Spoiler

Herogasm was the event where supes went when Voight told the public that the supes needed to disappear off planet to fight a galaxy-level baddie like Thanos or Darkseid.

Considering how much people were going on about this

Spoiler

Herogasm thing, it had absolutely nothing on even an average episode of Spartacus

I also found it honestly quite uncomfortable to watch as M.M pointed out half of the people there were exploited sex workers, demonstrated in the scene by one being visibly forced to do something uncomfortable.

Feels really weird people being so excited to see depicted something that unpleasant in context to be honest. Unless it was different in the comics.

Having that fact divulged, contextualising what was going in there, and then tonally lurching towards a comedy moment with The Deep just didn't work for me.

I enjoyed Butcher embracing the madness fighting Homelander though.

To be honest the part I liked most was oddly enough Frenchie and Kimiko. I just really want to see them both escape this world and live a life enjoying musicals.

It was exactly that. I'm glad they didn't go down the comics route TBH because a lot of it was Ennis just doing things for shits and giggles and to see how far he could go. I appreciate the showrunners toning a lot down (but still being completey OTT in a good way).

And wash your mouth out @probotector! I won't hear a word against Hood

That episode was exceptional, the best of the season if not the whole show.

Spoiler

The fight was a masterpiece, I didnt expect to get it ahead of the season finale. :omg:

Homelanders face when Butcher blasted him was just perfect as was Urbans delivery of "scorched earf'", say what you want about his accent, I bloody love it guvna.

Terrifying to think what a Homelander with wounded pride will do next, also Hughie and Butcher must be low on superjuice.

People who hate his accent are dead inside.

Its the best accent ever!

I hated it initially but I dug out my stack of comics and re-read through the series and I was surprised how much Ennis played into the Van Dyke troupe. It's "fackin'" this or "oi oi caaant" that. I think Urban is carrying it off amazingly now, even though he does slip into 'gawd bloimy marry poppin's!" at times.

Just love him grinning like a rabid dog. CNGAF.

In the comics (minor comic spoilers below)

Spoiler

Herogasm didn't have exploited sex workers in it, it was a supe on supe orgy. So people here were not looking forward to that element.

However, there was another plotline that had supes having group sex with sex workers, and it was to show their depravity and lack of concern for anyone else but themselves.

Anyway, I agree that it's inclusion in that scene was a bit unnecessary, and led to an odd tonal shift.

That makes more sense then. Makes it seem kind of absurd there are comic spoilers in here anyway then seeing as they're changing so much for the show.

Spoiler

Herogasm absolutely did have exploited sex workers in it. I only re-read it a few days ago and there a couple of scenes in particular where they're talking about getting 100k per day or something and one worker looking into a swimming pool and seeing blood and a couple of others telling her to go and take a break.

I’d agree, but people are really really sensitive. Even when they’re told that the show and the comics have pretty much nothing in common other than

Spoiler

Vought is bad, Homelander is a not a good guy, and V corrupts.

Ah fair enough! It's been a while since I read it and I think I was mixing it up with another storyline.

Quality episode.

Spoiler

Really interested to see how things will go now that for the first time Homelander has been proven to be vulnerable. Soldier Boy has been a great addition, they're playing with fire with him. The big question is will Soldier Boy turn out to be such an apocalyptic force that they may need Homelander to contain him, or if Homelander actually dies, is Soldier Boy even worse?

Also the end with Starlight it'll be interesting to see how that goes down. My money's on no one giving a shit (except maybe Homelander) or the public just not believing her.

As for the head popping lady, I'm curious whether she could actually pop Homelander or Soldier Boy, we've seen now that she could probably do it to Starlight. Her plot thread has been very weird this season - after setting her up as the next big bad she's done almost nothing aside from being the vehicle to put Homelander in charge of Vought.

Why were people so hyped for Herogasm? Was it because of the big showdown or just the orgy aspect? Orgies and nudity are so old hat in modern shows these days, Game of Thrones and Westworld desenitised us all to that :P

Spoiler

I was surprised by how well Homelander held his own. Given this is probably his first real fight I was expecting him to be flailing around a bit and panicking, but he’s not a bad brawler.

So it seems that Soldier Boy was modified with the understanding (the expectation?) that one day he would be rescued, and could serve as a Trojan horse by rejoining the Seven and unexpectedly going nuclear. The way he hears that old Russian song being played in different locations suggests some kind of Winter Soldier style brain washing over simple PTSD.

Soldier Boy does seem like a Captain America / Winter Soldier with a bit of John Wayne thrown in.

They haven't really explained why Payback turned on him...he seems less evil than Homelander...pretty much a generic 1960s patriot?

The Soldier Boy we’re seeing now is still a bit guarded and confused as he adjusts to his situation. Still, he’s already established he doesn’t give a shit about collateral damage, much like Homelander, and I think the only reason the first explosion bothered him was because it was something outside his control. I guess he could surprise us, but they seem to both be cut from the same cloth.

I get the impression Soldier Boy is as bad as Homelander but we ain't seen it yet.

Given how Black Noir reacted to his news he was back!

Also the speech Meave gave to Homelander about how much she hates him, Crimson Countess gave the pretty much exact same speech to Soldier Boy before he killed her.

So, I know why people have a problem with Urbans Butcher accent. I'm just revisiting the very first episode. OMG, he sounds fucking Aussie . I think the lean in to the Dick Van Dyke (which is fine in season 3, I can get behind that) must of been later on, and we've all conflated it with previous seasons.

The fighting and fucking was good but I really loved the character moments. From the start I've never been fully invested in the TV Show as it never quite lived up to how truly mean spirited and scathing the comic is about superheros but now it's definitely come into it's own.

Spoiler

Gollum Homelander!!, ATrain and Ashley, ATrain and Hughie, Rambo 3's Mujaheddin, just bagging all over those celebrities singing Imagine (what was that for anyway, Covid? 9/11? finding mass graves full of indigenous children in Canadian christian orphanages?)

On Solider Boy this is all speculation (none of this storyline is in the comics), I reckon

Spoiler

Vought and probably even the US government were behind him getting handed over to the Russians. Maybe some sort of Mutually Assured Destruction peace deal coming out of the war in Afghanistan to prevent it turning into a full blown WW3. And when John Wayne he finds out he was betrayed by America he's going to go ballistic and dealing with that'll be what resets the status quo, a bit, for the next series.
