The Boys - Amazon superhero show

Loved that

Spoiler

Musical number!

I still think the show has a tonal whiplash problem though. Straight from anal beads to extreme gore to serious sad music. It somehow gets away with it though.

Hughie has become a proper cunt, like.

Is Starlight the only moral main character left in the show? She keeps threatening to use her powers and it never happens - they're teasing so much with that now it's funny.

Nah, I was with Hughie on this one.

Spoiler

There is no good way to stop Homelander at this point. Certainly not one that will leave anyone feeling clean afterward. He was trying to save Annie from having to walk any deeper into that shit. Especially when she does still possess a sense of morality.

are also selfish though, he's doing it because he wants to feel powerful and he is using Starlight to justify his behaviour.

Yes this.

Spoiler

And as far as their relationship goes, he's specifically denying her her own agency. The show knows that though, and he's absolutely starting to go down the Butcher deep end, most likely losing Annie in the process.

Oh yeah, there’s definitely some of that as well. I don’t think it’s so much that he wants to feel powerful though, as much as….less useless. He was doing that, or at least he was feeling that way, with Newman. But we know how that ended.

Whichever way you view it, there’s a measure of pride at play.

He didn’t always have that powerful blast ability, did he? I’m guessing the Russians somehow enhanced him?

Spoiler

Yes - I don’t think they out and out say it, but it’s alluded to several times i.e. pumping him full of poison, and being radioactive etc., plus the film of the doctors experimenting on him.

Highlight of the episode for me was Ashley...

Spoiler

... nearly cracking. She's smart enough to know that Homelander could be listening in but she looked so ready to unburden herself to Annie in that brief moment.

Her stress/panic/terror and the effect it's having on her as she gets drawn closer to Homelander (and how she treats other people in turn) has been horrible to watch. I just hope she doesn't end up like Stillwell.

Also...

Spoiler

Maeve and Butcher? Not a complete surprise but not something I would've predicted.

Is Herogasm some comic thing that us non-comic readers are unaware of?

It’s a comic thing, but the show runners have confirmed they are doing it this season.

I’d say it’s best not to say anymore as not to spoil the ‘surprise’ of what Herogasm is, but given the start of series 3

Spoiler

I feel it’s going to make the comic look like an episode of Brady Bunch.

If they're doing that, we should see a return of the infamous Love Sausage. I don't expect Amazon to allow an hour of hardcore pornography so it'll probably be alluded to and there's far too many dodgy as fuck plot lines in the comic for any streaming service to even consider. The main plot line can't happen anyway due to the current plot line with Soldier Boy.

I didn't spoil anything. I think it's fairly obvious what it is. Jeez.

But many of us had no idea there even was a

Herogasm

And now I know that's comimg, whatever it is. Which is a spoiler.

Herogasm has been mentioned billions of times in every Boys article.

I doubt it’s a massive plot point, just a massive gang bang or something, I’m not even a comic reader and I heard about it last year!

Althouht I also actually know the end f the comic as I decided to just wiki it…

Loved the scenes with Kimiko this episode.

The way Karen Fukuhara goes from panic to deadly rage to fragile to tender and charming is really something. Yet the character feels consistent and believable.
