mdn2 Report post Posted January 23 Systems: Pretty much everything Price: £15.99 Genre: Turn Based Strategy Remember Advance Wars? Remember your childlike C.O pitting your army against opposing enemies to sunny backdrops and jaunty music? Remember how it was (and still is, in my opinion) the best turn based strategy game around? Now remember how we haven't had a new game in the series in over 10 years? Nintendo, why do you hurt me so? Now enter Wargroove. Not so much a homage to Advance Wars, but an almost blatant rip off. This isn't a bad thing, though. If Nintendo won't work with the IP, at least someone is willing to take the mantle and run with it. Obviously, the biggest difference is the Medieval setting. So no tanks, then. Instead you have Ballistas. And Giants. And don't expect any aircraft. There be dragons here, instead. Plus, it expands massively on what Advance Wars started. 4 Player Multiplayer? Check. Online? Check. Create your own maps and share them online? Check. Essentially it looks like Advance Wars +++. Personally I would have been happy with Advance Wars +, but given the time spent on it (it was meant to be out over a year ago initially) and the obvious love the game has for predecessor, it seems like it might be something quite special. So when's it out? Today, hopefully! A shadow drop at the the end of the Nintendo Indie Direct is what we'd like. If not, it's definitely out soon, though. The developers have been all over Twitter, promising more information and a release VERY soon. I fully expect it it's not today, we will definitely have a date after the Direct. Just look at it! How could you not be excited?

Bojangle Report post Posted January 23 Kinda glad it wasn't a stealth release in a way, gives me time to sink into RE2. Really can't wait though.
Luseth Report post Posted January 23 I thought the price might be a bit higher than that. Well happy, will be picking that up

BadgerFarmer Report post Posted January 23 Crossplay between XBone, Switch and PC too. I'm well up for this. I know it's derivative, but if it can capture the feeling and balance of the original Advance Wars it'll be instantly brilliant. I didn't think any of the sequels really lived up to the first game, so I'm still left wanting more after all these years.

bradigor Report post Posted January 23 Can't wait to play this. It just looks so good. Didn't know it was CrossPlay too, so that's a nice inclusion.
Chooch Report post Posted January 23 I never played multiplayer Advance Wars, any good?
Hitcher Report post Posted January 23 So glad this is crossplay as I was undecided which version to go for and at £16 I might just get it on the Switch as well as Xbox.
Bojangle Report post Posted January 23 May also double dip, Switch for actually playing the game and then PC for the editing/creation stuff.
mdn2 Report post Posted January 23 This game seems to be a complete package. Puzzle mode sounds interesting: Quote We wanted to get players thinking about the game a little differently by presenting them with a scenario where they only have one turn to win. Typically the objective is to win by defeating the enemy commander or by destroying their stronghold; however some puzzles change it up and require you to rescue a villager from dangerous situations instead. All of these puzzles are geared to test your understanding of the game’s mechanics and the various strengths and weaknesses of the units, with complexity increasing as you progress through them. Timmo Report post Posted January 23 Warbits is probably a closer Advance Wars clone but this looks about 400 times more appealing. Edit -
bradigor Report post Posted January 23 How is this game only £16? There is just so much content. I hope this is just an unmitigated success for them,

It was great, and I sank many hours into it, but the large majority of matches ended with people quitting out when their opponent got the upper hand. Hopefully this game will have some penalty system for rage-quitters. I am pretty hyped for this game.

It's a fair point about putting in another half an hour just so your opponant can completely obliterate you if the only other option is a rather unsporting quitting.

It's a good idea but awarding the win to the other player would be fine also I think, playing against an opponent resigned to defeat and just going through the motions is no fun either. Mitchell Report post Posted January 23 I've been playing the old 2 DS versions recently. They are so good (if a little thin compared to the old GBA ones). Slick and snappy and we'll presented. This will need to be very good to match them.... footage looks very promising.

Serious question not taking the mick. If it is cross play why would you double dip? I can't imagine performance wise there would be anything in it? Is it mainly for friends list on Xbox?
Darwock Report post Posted January 23 5 hours ago, mdn2 said: This game seems to be a complete package. Puzzle mode sounds interesting: I'd argue that Advance Wars itself was basically a puzzle game already - there wasn't much room for flexibility in how to win. I hope this is less restrictive.
