A 4 is massively unfair to Darksiders 3. It’s more than a little rough around the edges but is an enjoyable game that is certainly worth a play for anyone who enjoyed the previous titles

A 4 is just troll scoring but then again they gave a 4 to Hellblade too and a ridiculous 10 for RDR2 so I’m afraid my respect for Edge scores has largely evaporated.

What else could they have put?

An actual game FFS. However you read it positively (Game Pass is amazing so we just had to include) or negatively (Xbox got no games lol) it's utterly ridiculous to include on a

Game of the Year list

It's just a tongue in cheek jab, they did the same thing last year when they put Ninja Gaiden Black at number 3 on the Xbox list. Their only real alternative this year was State of Decay 2 which they gave a 5 I think, so..... They'll do a proper top 3 for Xbox when Microsoft publish three decent exclusives in a year.

Also God of War and Spider-Man missing the top 10 shows that Edge still knows what's up.

Spider-Man & God of War are easily right at the top of my own GOTY list (which I haven’t got round to posting in the thread) ... so it’s almost like this all continues to be quite subject and continues to be the case that I don’t see eye to eye with the EDGE opinion at large.

VR GOTY Astrobot.

Overall GOTY

#2 Tetris Effect

#5 Astrobot

Don’t ever change.

Presumably they thought

Spoiler

Tetris was the better game, but Astrobot was the better use of VR. Tetris is ahead in the PS category as well.

Yeah, those awards are all over the place. RDR2 nowhere near the formats GOTY, but then given the overall GOTY. For reasons.

On point with the Xbox list though, the machine has had nothing of note come out for it.

The individual formats lists focus on exclusives.

Which is why the Xbox list is fucking hilarious.

Still, RDR2, as much as I enjoyed it, isn't in my top 5.

RDR2 is absolutely my game of the year, although weirdly it's also the only game out of the entire feature that I've actually played. Apart from Destiny 2, which is itself probably responsible for the fact that I've played so few other games. I need to do something about that - feels weird to have played so few of the big games of 2018. I at least need to get on Tetris Effect and Obra Dinn.

The cover for this issue is a haptic delight, it feels beautiful to hold. I don't like Kingdom Hearts very much, so I don't get a lot out of actually looking at it, but it has a lovely matte finish.

They ballsed up making subnautica one of the pc games of the year then, that was in early access on xbox in 2016.

Finished releases count, not Early Access versions.

The finished version is available on both PS4 and Xbox One, it just also happened to have been in Early Access on the Bone for almost as long as PC.

(if anyone in thread is struggling to think of a suitable replacement PC exclusive, may I suggest instead the excellent Paratopic. Actually, you could also directly replace every instance of RDR2 with it and you'd have a considerably more compelling set of lists, but that's another argument entirely)

Yeah, there are so many genuine pc exclusives they could have picked instead. Seems weird setting these rules for your own awards and then bending them past breaking point

"Yeah, I know it's not an exclusive but I really liked it!"

"Yeah, I know it's a service rather than a game but it's just a little playground dig, they'll like that, the readers"

You'd get no worse asking some random fanny on a gaming forum.

They should hire @Benny as an editor, he'd fucking sort them out
