ICECOLD
That's very noble of you!Nope, as much as SEGA have provided gems here and there, I do find myself opening their newest games with a little nervous trepadation..... Obviously, that's just me. I've not seen anyone else mention SEGA's run of duffers recently. Does anyone think they made the generational leap from 2D to 3D as well as others did? (Monkey Ball, PSO aside, obv.) hmm... yes, you're right: Sonic Adventure, PSO, Monkey Ball, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Ecco, Skies of Arcadia, JSR, Virtua Tennis, the Virtua Fighter series... All terrible 3D titles (note: not really, or at all). Even more recent games like Shinobi have never been what you'd called "bad"... and while a merely average title is below what you'd hope for from a game boasting the SEGA logo, with all those multiformat titles it's to be expected once in a while. Likewise, for every 6/10 game SEGA release, there's a Panzer Dragoon Orta on the flipside.
ICECOLD
Play more games. Seriously. Yeh, because completing between 10-15 action adventures or RPG's every year for the past 4 years, trading some in and keeping the rest, thus owning over 40 games across 5 platforms... yeh your right, I need to play more games, "seriously". If you don't like SA1 that's your perogative. As the first game I owned on my favourite machine of all time - and the realisation of an up-til-then videogame fantasy I never thought would materialise (Sonic in 3d seemed a dead prospect after the Saturn's lack of such a title), I'll always hold it in high regard. Jolly
It's Sonic in 3D, it's bound to be dire. Correctamundo. Monkey Ball (1 not smelly smelly number 2) happens to be one of the greatest games EVAR!!!11!, and Skies of Arcadia is the only turn-based RPG I've ever liked or been bothered to play for more than a couple of hours. Apart from those though I feel that along with Nintendo, Sega have to pull their socks up a bit.

Call me a heretic, but I actually find Monkey Ball rather boring, at least in singleplayer anyway. and the multiplayer, while frantic, I only find a nice diversion from "meatier" multiplayer games like Mario Kart DD!! and Halo. I'm sure I remember being suprised at the score for it. To be honest I think SMB was the last high scoring Sega game from Edge.

Robo_1
Well I'm enjoying it. The levels are well structured, and whilst I'm only a couple of hours in, I haven't come up against any stupid falling off the platforms bits yet. I can see it getting samey though, I keep wanting the loops and the speed sections to go one better each time. If they had scrapped the Knuckles & Rouge sections of SA2, and replaced them with more Sonic & Shadow levels it would have been perfect. Anyway, I think Sonic Heroes is carrying on the Sonic franchise well, the team thing works well, and the usual multiple routes seem well thought out. cicinski
It feels like Sonic 3D:Flickies Island off the MD and Saturn, anybody who commented on the shiny characters is right. It is as close to the 2D gameplay any 3D Sonic has gotten but that shouldnt be the point, they should try and mould something new for him in 3D (just not treasure hunting or shooting). But it's ok.. im just glad I traded in Red Card, Virtua Soccer 3 and resident Evil 0 for it and didnt pay £40.. but i hated SA2:Battle at first and now thats a firm favourite for me and my bro. Oh and on the subject of sega's third party efforts i think FZero was limited at best and MonkeyBall has been sucked dry any identity by the sequel. Virtua Fighter 4:evo is amazing tho. i think that the DC hit them hard and if casual gamers didnt like or get things like Rez, JSR and others then of course they will head down a route of Sony-esque titles involving generic themes (shinobi etc) and constant updates and ports. But give them til this generation ends and the DC is firmly a distant memory and finances are a-ok and then we'll see. Just please god make them make Sonic and Knuckles 2 or port Sonic3 and Knuckles to the GBA... itd be sooo sweet.

(Monkey Ball, PSO aside, obv.) I agree, but think it's more Sonic Teams problem - the other Sega R&D departments have been doing 3D for years and years (Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing, Virtual On, Virtua Cop, Sega Rally, House of the Head, Daytona USA, etc, etc. which are all fabulous games, not to mention original home titles such as Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Rez, Skies of Arcadia, etc.). Sonic Team have made very clumbsy in-roads into teh world of 3D - I've always been a Sonic Adventure hater and with the exception of NiGHTS (which relied on 2D play mechanics) I can't think of one 3D game they've produced recently that's been highly polished and enjoyable on a personal level. The closest I can think of is PSO, and that's a hugely basic game at best (although very addictive when played right). Billy Hatcher has a solid feel to it, but it's derivative crap in implementation. You can do better than this Mr Naka.
sega_kid
hmmm, i agree some games from sega recently havent been exceptional, but ive yet to see a CRAP sega game. for me, they are still my fave game company. i tried the sonic heroes demo, and it seemed fun to me, but ive yet to give it a full playtest. as for sega gt online, well, to start with it just looked plain ugly, but once i started tuning up my car and winning races it really came into its own (same as 2002) and with the addon of live, finally a sega game i will be spending many, many late nights on! although., i have to say the whole process of finding a race on live couldve been easier! sega_kid
oh yeah nearly forgot.... ITS SEGA MONTH AT GAMESTATION! yup that means cheap sega games for all! eg, monkeyball (Gc) 12.99 otogi (xb) 19.99 rez (ps2) 14.99 to name a few! plus most sega pc titles for 2.99! oh, and did i mention free sega logos and ringtones? Ed-E
Otogi is Sega? Published by Sega (and, AFAIK, only in the west - I don't think it's a Sega-published game in Japan. But I may be wrong). I just finished Space Channel 5 Part 1 and I'm completely buzzing. It has such a build up and finishes perfectly. I'm going to have to restrain myself from starting Part

Space Renegade Ulala
Sega are the best games company in the world. So what if 75% of their output in the last 18 months has been average at best, utterly frickin' dire at worst? *me weeps real, bitter tears of unstoppable despair*
11 Herbs 'n' Spices
Haven't played the game and don't expect much from it espcially seeing as I hated the Sonic Adventure series. The TV advert is great though.
SomeNaiveChump
just thought I'd point out that disregarding extra levels/unlockables-type bullshit, SADX runs A LOT worse if you see them side-by-side than its DC counterpart. FACT. I would personally quite happily label it unplayable, although I appreciate that a fucking appalling framerate and abysmal scrolling sync problem might be missed by some... bizarre, since GC SA2 is a fantastic, superior porting job. what I've seen of SH looks like SA2. ie shit. I won't be buying it unless I get to play it elsewhere and enjoy it. which I might well do.
emjay2kay
The TV advert is great though. The advert just makes me sad. You get through the ad for what looks to be a completely average, and typical as of late, Sega experience, and then the PlayStation2 logo flashes up at the end, with the "Fun, Anyone?" tagline. It's so sad. I couldn't help but think, "What happended, man?" After they gave us so much during the Dreamcast's lifetime, and then promised so much more when they went multiformat, everything since is just so dissapointing, so boringly average. At least I can delude myself that these cross-platform games means Sega are raking the cash in, and we're getting closer and closer to some new hardware from Sega. Sprite Machine
I played a couple of levels of Sonic Adventure last night. You know what? It is seriously one of the most gorgeous-looking games I've ever seen! Slick, fast, sharp, smooth, vibrant, wonderful! and that music.... Ahhhh.... Why do I get the feeling I'm going to be very disappointed by Heroes?

Cyhwuhx
.::: I played Sonic Heroes in the shop last night... And is there any way of actually getting the idea you're doing something? It felt very much like pressing forward while pushing all the buttons in the hope of reaching the end. The PS2 verion is atrocious btw... And for the love of GOD! Do we really need 'Sonic Summons'!?
