(Some) Streamers Are The Worst

Exaclty. I'm not into watching streams but there are certain to be good decent humans out there streaming amongst the shitbags like this guy.

It's like saying "all TV presenters are peados" because of Saville and co. Thats not how it's works.

I thought this was going to be a fairly lighthearted thread about how youtubers and their stupid fucking gurning faces in the corner that I don't want to see with their forced interaction and "engagement" at every second were the bane of the earth.

But, as I watched the video with mounting trepidation after reading a couple of comments, and despite often feeling like I don't care about much, I ended up feeling ill and just couldn't keep going after the video just, well, kept going with some heartbreakingly despicable behaviour. Really upsetting, what an awful situation they must be in, and what a cunt he is :(

I have been streaming for a couple of years (on a break at the moment). I started because i wanted to make a bit of cash but also as a bit of escapism as I had a lot of bad stuff going on (a friend died, mums illness, feeling somewhat depressed).

I met a lot of great people and started checking out other streamers but one thing i kinda noticed, you start to wonder why they stream so much especially with smaller audiences.

Like, there is one guy i occasionally watched who streams the same game every day for 4 hours. He went a bit crazy at one point on his twitter feed ( his wife left him) and it makes me think, well obviously something wasn't right if you are streaming so much - it doesn't surprise me she had enough and left.

There are other streamers as well, that quite obviously have shit going on in their lives but choose to streams several hours a day.

It's also kinda bad for your mental health, like you feel like shit that your stream only attracts 5-10 viewers when other similar people get more than that. You start to wonder if you are entertaining/good enough to do this etc. I have friends who have tried streaming and choose games that they really are not interested in but play because they are popular in hopes of getting views.

At the end of the day, don't prioritize streaming over other things in your life. Play games you want to play. Shit isn't worth it.

And truth be told, I do not know what is real any more. This entire thing might the staged (disclaimer: I am not claiming it is) just to gain “name and fame”.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/livestream-of-video-game-films-sydney-man-allegedly-hitting-partner-20181210-p50l9a.html

NSW Police arrested the man at 11.30pm on Sunday and took him to Narellan police station, where he was charged with common assault.

Two girls, aged three and 20 months, were home at the time of the alleged assault.

Police have also served an apprehended violence order on the man. He will appear in Camden Local Court on Thursday.

I doubt this is a fame grab.

Still in far fewer threads than actual nostalgia discussion on here!

Quite. The point isn’t that he’s streaming content online; it’s that he’s a nutter with little self-control. Trying to establish an intrinsic link between online streaming and domestic abuse is how we get Daily Mail hysteria. Hell, there are plenty of people from this forum who broadcast content online and manage to do so without threatening violence on those nearby. ;)

Yeah, this forum is really bad for that sort of stuff, see the tumblr porno thread where the OP tried to equate pornography to fascism, made unnecessary digs at someone repeatedly who hadn't posted to try and bait them into the thread, and tied social justice to censorship and prudishness, while arguing from a social justice position.

If there's a news story just link the fucking story and spare us all this shit, ta.

It’s a shame this thread is a dig at streamers because the issue at hand is domestic violence and that’s a subject that deserves more coverage because unfortunately it’s on the rise in the UK and while some of that is because more people feel they can report it the sad fact is that it’s a cycle often passed through families so kids growing up in a DV household normalise it and are more likely to be perpetrators in later life :(

The guy in this video is obviously an arsehole but it’s not because he is a streamer, there will be people on this forum reading this thread and possibly contributing who have been victims and perpetrators of it and that’s male and female. DV isn’t just about assaulting people as a big part of it is controlling and coercive behaviour often with the threat of violence being enough.

For others it's just a 9 to 5 job, so to speak. Though depending on the streamer definitely not healthy in a lot of cases I've seen. Granted, speed runners are a special bunch, which is where my viewing normally dwells.

He has a full time job working for Telstra, Aus biggest phone company.

That's relevant to my comment on full time streamers because?

If he did both then bloody hell.

Yes it is. He has a full time job and also seems to be a full time streamer. That doesn’t leave a lot of time to actually spend with your pregnant wife and your two children.

I was just pointing out he seemed to be both which is crazy.

75 million subs (75 MILLION!!).

Mostly kids who are impressionable as fuck.

Although I defended him previously thinking he was just stupid, it's completely obvious by now he's an alt right nazi and has been for a while.

Pretty terrifying.

Whelp the guy has decided to respond in public.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/sydney-man-dismisses-alleged-livestream-assault-of-partner-as-one-off-thing-20181211-p50lkn.html

Quote

On Tuesday, (h) told Seven News it was a "one-off thing" and that the partner he allegedly abused would "corroborate that in court".

"You're all judging the video, you don't see what happens, you haven't read the police report, you don't actually know what happened off the camera," he said.

"Everyone thinks I kicked the shit out of her which clearly isn't the case."

Reminds me a bit of the "good man" speech Hannah Gadsby gave recently.

https://www.marieclaire.com.au/hannah-gadsby-good-men-speech

Quote

"And then there are the FOJs – the friends of Jimmys. These are apparently good men who misread the rules. Garden-variety consent dyslexics. They have the rule book, but they just skimmed it.

"My issue is that when good men talk about bad men they always ignore the line in the sand," she continued. "The line in the sand that is inevitably drawn whenever a good man talks about bad men. 'I am a good man, here is the line, there are all the bad men.'

“We need to talk about how men will draw a different line for every different occasion. They have a line for the locker room, a line for when their wives, mothers, sisters, daughters are watching, another line for when they’re drunk and fratting, another line for non-disclosure, a line for friends and a line for foes.

“You know why we need to talk about this line between good men and bad men? Because it’s only good men who get to draw that line,” Gadsby continued. “And guess what? All men believe they are good.

'This world – a world full of good men who do very bad things and still believe in their heart of hearts that they are good men because they have not crossed the line, because they move the line for their own good. Women should be in control of that line, no question."

Unfortunate quote format there!

edit: the sad thing is that the guy seems to have a defence force out there saying that apparently it's acceptable to kick off if you're being nagged / have a flimsy bit of cardboard thrown at you. ffs. This country.

The topic starter is used cheap tactics to make the thread popular. "streamers are the worst" Blaming a group of people.

In Spain the same philosophy applied to mens. "Men are the worst"  now we are second class citizens in Spain we don't even have presumption of innocence! If a man is accused of violence that's it.

Needless to say that's causing a lot of friction.

It's funny when the only political group willing to fight for equal rights among men and women .... Is the far right!

Criminalising a group of people is a form of abuse.

Have you actually listened to yourself there?

I mean, you are given credence to the far-right as some sort of saviour... I cannot fathom how you can stretch to that.

Sorry you are right. I woke up in a funny mood.

I think it's true these days we are criminalising groups of people and that's dangerous.

Obviously thsag guy is an idiot and he deserves to be jailed for a couple of years at the very least.

But im really triggered when a group of people is poited at. Whether they are streamers, mens or Jews .

The rights struggle for men in Spain is true. And that happens after being criminalised.

There's been some developements.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/partner-of-fortnite-gamer-applies-to-change-avo-conditions-20181213-p50lyg.html

Quote

Sydney man 26, who came to worldwide attention after the live-streamed incident, appeared briefly before Camden Local Court on Thursday morning.

Following the alleged assault on Sunday night, police imposed an apprehended violence order on Sydney man, 26, that dictated he could not go within 100 metres of his partner’s workplace, where she lives, or the family home.

The court heard that he had applied to change that condition of the AVO.

His pregnant partner had written a letter in support of the change in conditions to allow him to return to the family home, the court heard.

Police opposed the change because of "the nature of the charges".

Magistrate Ian Cheetham declined to make the change, and his matter will return to court early next year.

I've got a lot of opinions on this but given it's still a live court case posting this is about as much as I can add specifically.
