It's that time of year again;  2011, 2012,  2013 , 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

 

Don't forget things changed last year when they removed the option to add games as gifts to your inventory, meaning you can only send gifts directly. So the only way to keep it secret is for people to send me a list of the games to buy and the money. It all seemed to go smoothly last year.

 

The easiest way is to use the Digital Gift Cards, this sends me Steam wallet funds that I can then use to buy the gifts. One limitation is there's no option to send a specific amount, it's multiples of 4 and 10, you also can't use current wallet funds to buy them.

 

We can also use PayPal gift or bank transfer, as these will require some more organisation would be best to get them done before the final minute. 

 

  • To take part please PM me a link to your Steam profile by the end of December 18th.

 

  • Make sure your profile/game details are set to public so your secret Santa can view it.

 

  • On December 19th I'll send a PM saying who you're buying for.

 

  • PM me the games you want to gift and if using digital gift cards send it to JPR (main not Santa)  before the end of December 23rd.

 

  • If you want to send money another way let me know in the PM and we will sort it out, please try and let me know as early as possible.

 

  • I'll then send the games out late on the 24th.

 

  • My account is a UK one using the UK store, the digital gift cards are converted if sent in a different currency but not sure if you can see the conversion rate.

 

The Winter sale should start December 20th this year so a tight turnaround as usual. Games should be at their best price at the start of the sale, useful for buying gifts, it also means you won't miss out on anything if you choose to wait until the 25th to buy games.

 

A wishlist is really useful, no limits on what you can buy, I'll include a Steam profile link so you can see what they own. Whilst there's no restrictions the spirit is more thoughtful, you can send a comedy gift, but it's not really in the spirit if that's all you send.

One thing worth noting from last year - obviously wishlists are a good way of getting ideas for your giftee, but there were dodgy Steam moments where lists would be fine one day and show 0 games the next, or show up on the mobile app but not a browser window... so screengrabbing or manual listing/planning can help as well!

The actual answer is "whatever you feel comfortable with". The cost of items received varies quite significantly depending on the Santa, so don't feel bad if you can't afford to be wildly generous (and equally do be aware that you may not get back what you put in if you're planning on putting in a lot)!

As @Wiper said, there's no minimum or maximum. One thing I sometimes do is have a very loose "budget" in my head (if only so that I behave myself!) before the sales start and then adjust accordingly depending on the discounts. Although sometimes this results in happy dilemmas where I pick up the things I "plan" to get and still have spare funds for fun extras!

Always a fabulous thread. I love reading the reactions afterwards. My temp teaching contract is up this month which leaves me struggling so can't take part unfortunately. Have a blast guys.

 

I will go through my bundle codes and put up my semi-regular duplicates for early pressies in the main thread though :)
