I think this is marvelous, rivetting and bleak.

I've never seen a more terrifying depiction of prison.  That brutal routine, where even the joy of showering is removed from you.  Harsh lighting, punishing work, total disassociation from the outside world.  Just dreadful and I could feel Andor's dread and regret and sense of being utterly trapped by it all.

I think you're probably right about what they're building being for TIE fighters but I also at one point thought that these would all be Death Star parts.

As a completely unrelated aside, I think that actress playing Binx is absolutely beautiful.

Another strong Mon Mothma week.  Zero on the pew pew count.

Also, costume and set design off the charts.

Spoiler

The joy of showering in prison?

Yes, but there are also plenty of posts like this:

Excellent. Superb character from one of the best Star Wars films.

Personally I never knew what his name was despite liking Rogue One a lot so it took me a while to twig who he even was in the show…I guess I’d just forgotten him.

EDIT: I mean not just him, I couldn’t tell you the name of anyone in Rogue One who wasn’t a CGI replica. And I’ve seen it twice.

It's worth going back to the first few pages of this thread, and having a good chuckle at the endless negativity people were projecting onto this before a single frame of footage had been shown.

Even Disney have distanced themselves from

this car crash.

This thread is toxic. Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.

Edit - sorry I thought I was in the last Jedi thread!

I'm still struggling through this. It's dull. I don't get the love for it. Apart from Stellan and the bits with Mon Mothma I just don't care about any of them. Imperial Norman Bates and his over bearing mother in their Clockwork Orange flats are just dire. I get that it's meant to show the oppression of the Empire but it's just too grim. It's Star Wars with the fun stripped out. I'll persevere but only because I'm a Star Wars nut.

I'm just looking for a hook. Something that draws me in. Other than Stellan's character, there's nothing. I'll see it out but I'm baffled by the praise it's getting.

If you don’t like what it’s doing by now you won’t ever, it’s a Darth Maul (long haul) (clever cockney rhyming Star Wars slang, cheers) before you see any blasters popping off and the like.

It’s the best Star Wars.

Well I think it's a bit Count Dooku (Bantha Poodoo).

I’m still reeling from it. Can’t stop thinking about it and I’m horsing endless amounts of videos, articles and podcasts into me. Gilroy’s a good man for an interview as well, very open and insightful, and quick to praise his collaborators. It’s incredible, the lengths they went to make this show.

Who's that? Some sort of space wizard? What's a Sith?

Exactly.

Don't get me wrong - I loved Andor. I think it's a bit silly to be saying it's the best Star Wars though. Star Wars is space wizards and laser swords.

But I guess many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

It might be silly for you, but to me that way of thinking is small minded and reductive.

Andor is the best written, acted and directed thing set in that universe. It's the best looking and most interesting.

It's the Star Wars I've enjoyed most, and I've been really immersed in SW lately - my son and I have watched all nine Episode movies (1 and 9 are appalling, 2,3 and 7 are fine, the others are great), Boba Fett (yawwwwn) and Obi-Wan (meh) since Andor started, and as much as I enjoyed (most) of it, I was constantly wishing I was watching Andor instead. My 10 year old son, on the other hand, watched the first episode of Andor and wasn't interested in watching any more. That's why we watched everything else, in fact. Clearly, for him, it's not the best. For me, there's not even a hint of competition. Andor is head and shoulders above the rest.

I'm not against space wizards and laser swords, and I have faith that if they feature in the next season they'll be handled brilliantly, but I don't need them for something to be Star Wars.
