The Mandalorian

Mark me up as someone else who didn't really understand who the extra people in this episode were. I know they were in the flashback, and I vaguely remember the doctor as being a Bad Person, but that was it. So the main part of the episode, whilst perfectly fine, didn't have any draw for me at all.

Do we know that the woman had a personal animus towards the doctor? Or was that purely a "you won't be able to give me up later" thing? Is it Andor I'd need to have watched to understand it all, or just a better recollection of Mando episodes?

It's a bit annoying in Disney+ TV stuff when they just do "we're making another series elsewhere and now you have to watch that to get the thing you like here". Just like it is when it happens in comics, too.

I assumed she was connected to whoever was responsible for sending all those TIE fighters to destroy Bo Katan's home. Hopefully the whole thing is tying into a new hunt for Grogu since it's now clear that some of people who were involved in seeking his capture are still alive, and Elia's actions against the doctor were to silence someone outside their circle who knew about Grogu.

The Doctor and Kane are both previous characters in the Mandalorian. Kane was a loyalist on Gideon’s ship. The reasons Kane may have animus towards the Dr are that he gave up Moff Gideon’s ship under pressure so that it could be stormed by Mando & Co last season. He also genuinely wanted to reform, with a head full of secrets, while Kane was simply being a double agent and remained loyal to the Empire. Dr man also showed some compassion towards Grogu in Season 1 if I remember rightly.

The question is, did she want to wipe his mind and cause him suffering to get revenge and make sure he remembered nothing, or does she have further use of his expertise?

By the way, it was pointed out to me the other day that if Grogu is in his early 50’s then another significant character who was born around the same time is Anakin.

Conjecture with a bit of a spoiler from Legends…

Spoiler

With all the talk of cloning etc, I’m wondering if we might be about to get the creation story of Anakin at the same time we find out about where Grogu came from. In Legends Anakin was created by Sidious and Plagueis, but this has been left ambiguous in the new-canon.

I think whoever has all those TIEs might be someone significant

Spoiler

If not Gideon, who else from the extended universe but now canon is someone who they are itching to bring back in a new show:

Spoiler

Thrawn obviously.

I had the same thought in mind when I made my post last week but dared not type it…

He's the Jedi who saved Grogu.

I was wondering why that guy looked familiar, also, good job Carl Weathers on directing duty.

The music in last week's episode was wicked. Two tracks stood out as stripped back versions of tracks from Star Wars and had me whistling/humming the missing part. That said I was jetlagged to fuck last night so may have imagined it...anybody else notice the music I'm talking about. I think one bit is on Coruscant and sounded like the music when the gang/Obi are creeping around the Death Star in Star Wars?

Brilliant episode! Some absolutely beautiful shots in there with Carl clearly showing a bit of flair alongside delivering the goods on the standard stuff :) love how its setting things up with certain characters.

Another episode that feels a lot like it’s torn between the need to tell a stand-alone story like the first season, and an overwhelming hunger to stuff as much prequel-era Star Wars lore as possible in there.

I like the fact that they’re really leaning into the Mandos as fundamentalist extremists vibe with their space ISIS training camp. Their obsession with foundlings takes on a much creepier tone when you consider they’re basically grooming vulnerable adolescents. This is the way!

That shot reminded me of the shot of the Tie Fighters in The Force Awakens.

Also after all the speculation about who rescued Grogu during Order 66 it turns out to be Jar Jar. Get it right round ye Jar Jar haters!

I know this is an expensive series, and technology has moved on in 20 years, but the action/visuals they can cram in to an episode amazes me.

The jetpacking was giving me serious Rocketeer vibes as well.

Call me crazy but

Spoiler

If you keep losing children to big monsters in both the lake AND from the sky on a regular basis, wouldn't you go do your weirdo cult prepper training somewhere else?

I honestly really hate these metal clad fucks now. They're nowhere near as interesting as the show thinks we think they are.

Can't fault the direction this episode though, but the actual show still feels much weaker than it's ever been and it's rather poorly written.
