If I've skipped the Boba Fett series, since it was a bit shit, am I going to struggle with the next series of this?

Just watch the two episodes which are pretty much pure Mando and baby yoda action and fuck the rest of it off.

Deffo watch the two Mando episodes and you’ll be fine.

The rest was pure shite and life is too short.

Considering how good The Mandelorian and Andor have been, I find it really startling how shit the Boba Fett series was. Only got a few episodes in and gave up.

Binge watched the first 2 seasons again in preparation for S3 and I'd forgotten how much good stuff there is, particularly in season 2.

The last episode of S2 is probably the best episode of any Star Wars TV show they've made yet.  Whilst I concede that Andor is the consistently best show, it never had the feel, or the ridiculous SW nostalgia tinge that the finale of this had, and for me that's such a massive part of Star Wars.  And yes, I know Andor was aiming for a different take on it all which it nailed.

Going to watch Book of Boba Fett again so I'm up to date, despite it being a big drop off in quality.

Oh I've seen it before.  I know this isn't the right thread for TBOBF chat, but some of the flashback segments are really good, particularly the earlier episodes.  The 'modern day' stuff is just directionless (downright rubbish in some places) though and it suffers as a result.  I certainly think the criticism of the whole series is massively OTT, although obviously it's nowhere near as good as The Mandalorian or Andor.

  • 3 weeks later...

As I didn’t want to stink up the Andor thread with negativity (I thought it was terrible, and not Star Wars at all) and, as there is a massive poster for the upcoming Season 3, I thought I would give this a go to see how it was compared to Obi Wan (which I loved) and the prequels which I watched for the first time a few months ago.

I am a lapsed SW fan, loved the OT when it came out, had the figures and read the comics. I sort of grew out of it in the early 90s and after hearing the reception for the prequels kind of gave up on the whole thing.

I absolutely adored The Mandolorian. I binged both seasons in a little over 2 weeks which is practically unheard of for me. Perhaps one duff episode in Season 1 but every episode apart from that was a banger. Not just top notch SW, but top tier Tv full stop.

I am now unbelievably excited for Season 3.

I believe I'm in the minority but I didn't love andor either.  I think the problem is it doesn't feel like star wars and I get why that's a draw for some people, it's a slow burn drama and although slower paced that the films the mandalorian hits the right notes of still being star wars but telling the full story and allowing depth in characters.  That's just my opinion though.  Happy for anyone to love Andor.

Agree with every word of that, having recently rewatched the first two seasons again.

I did finish Boba Fett. Not sure I could do a rewatch though. Other than the episodes that are essentially Mando episodes.

Andor didn't hit the spot for me either but I'm well up for more Mando.

It's just going to be a bit weird juggling The Mandalorian and The Last of Us, maybe a little too much Pedro all in one go even if he does wear a helmet for 99% of this one.

I think it's fair to class things differently depending on what you view as "good Star Wars" vs "good... other stuff". I'm not sure I understand actually disliking something just for having a different feel though. After all, most shows don't feel like Star Wars.

That said, while I thought Andor was excellent in its own right. I also really appreciated it for broadening the scope of what Star Wars can be, and it has already influenced other Star Wars stuff based on one of the Bad Batch episodes this season.

If Andor was the only new Star Wars thing Disney had made I'd probably think it was a bit weird, but while they're churning out multiple shows and movies I think it's great that they're adding a little more variety into the mix.

February’s thrown me for a loop with it’s spring/winter weather and funny number of days. I can’t believe Mando Season 3 drops in a few hours.

I’M NOT READY! I feel I should have organised a blue-milk and nuggies party or something, :omg:

Just gone through a rewatch of both seasons and last 3 EPs of boba fett getting ready for this season.

Love this show and is easily the saving grace of the Star Wars universe. Great cast, love how each episode is it's on entity and Mando and Grogu are a great duo in this!

S3 has been along time coming, hope it lives upto S1 and S2. Today is the day we shall find out.

Loved that, a bit exposition heavy but thoroughly enjoyable.

Spoiler

The spirit of Arnie lives on and Spinach Davy Jones had me chuckling.

Grogu is impossible not to love.
I suddenly have the urge to install Star Wars Squadrons and do some flying about.

Yeah, I’m really into what that green captain dude’s whole deal is.

Spoiler

And you have to appreciate the design of the kid’s new helmet in the beginning. Looks exactly like a cheap piece of tat you’ll no doubt be able to buy soon.

Argh this is still so good!

Spoiler

Was initially wondering if they were gonna retcon things by showing that young Mando never actually took the oath due to an....interruption, but no, that opening was actually present day thank god.

Hyperspace whales, hmm, where have we seen them before? :D

High Magistrate Carga you sonuvabitch. Love the stupid little cape-droids he has.

Never expected IG to be back. Wonder why he wants a droid specifically.

Those pirate fighters feel like something we would have seen in X-Wing or something. Nice design.

Space Pirate Lechuck / Davy Jones looks fun.

No idea how they squeezed all this into 30 minutes and still kept good pace. Felt longer, rather than overly busy. Impressive.

Are they still using 'the volume', or whatever it's called, for this? It's the one thing that makes it feel cheap to me, making it feel kind of cramped all the time, so I hope they've finally given them some budget to do some more location work.

This opener left me a little meh, I put it down to the time of year and things being tough in life!

Spoiler

First minute, continuity error with the blacksmithery - helmet is hit into a round shape, a second later it's flat for a glimpse, then round and finished!

Then 7 minutes of a short under-35 minute episode with a CGI alligator - which they tried to attack? Why didn't they run. No wonder there aren't many left.

The helmet. As noted, it looked like plastic.

Also, the kid never takes it off? He would end up with a face shaped like a blobfish as his head grew! He would need another helmet after a few years.

Then we end up with Apollo and his real parting element is bending down translating for that tiny engineer guy from ROS. Blimey.

Ship bits were nice, and the pirate guy seemed like a cross between the POTC Bill Nighy and something from the Mighty Boosch.

Hoping for a longer episode up next with a bit more... I dunno?

Great opener to S3. Good sequence with the mandalor at the beginning and nice dogfight sequence later on. Story Sets the season up nicely to.

Best series out there by a mile, can't wait for the next episode. Just wished it was a little longer.

Kudos to the visual effects, set designs and props, looks and sounds stunning in Dolby Vision/Atmos.

I did also wonder the same, but quickly brushed it off as

Spoiler

some warrior code bollocks, guess they arent inclined to back down from a fight much. Admittedly I seem to remember them mostly being that way in other appearances, like the animated series.

The only way they ever seem to shy away is in the grander scale, with the whole 'our civilisation is fucked and aint coming back, lets just move on' kinda resigned attitude.

Some good old fashioned after-dinner family SF adventure. I was worried that Andor had spoiled me, but actually the contrast between the two shows makes me appreciate this show’s simple charms even more.

Slow and steady start to the season.  Can't say I was blown away and couldn't help thinking

Spoiler

Pirates of the Caribbean with the seaweed head pirate

But it was all fairly enjoyable and it flew by.
