The Mandalorian

It's been mentioned before but bears repeating, The Book of Boba Fett episodes 5-7 are essential viewing if you like the Mandalorian, they're practically Mandalorian episodes and directly continue Mando's story. Just finished watching Book of Boba Fett and enjoyed it, not as good as the Mandalorian but still solid, and the Mando stuff is cool. It does drop the ball in a few places like the cinematography, sound design not as good as the Mandalorian, Boba having no personality and some really questionable characters. But there's plenty to enjoy as well, particularly the Mando subplot and Boba's flashbacks.

As a side note I finally got through all of Clone Wars and it ranged from poor to good. The last few seasons are definitely best with a few stellar episodes. There is some quality action - better lightsabre battles and Jedi moves than some of the movies, some good new characters (Ahsoka is indeed one of the best Star Wars characters full stop), and Anakin and Obi Wan feel like actual people in the show and are actually likeable. There's a lot of filler and despite some dark moments but it still is a kids show for the most part, with a wildly varying quality. Some episodes and subplots are better than some of the movies. Whereas others are mindless stuff you put in the background.

I did appreciate watching Clone Wars in the end, and there's loads in The Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett that cross over, from characters to plot points. Even small stuff like the big mouth beasts and bounty droid model from Mando season 1 appeared in Clone Wars first. My recommendation if you do decide to dip into Clone Wars is go with one of the recommended episodes lists, I endured a lot of filler which did help flesh out the world, but a lot can be dumped without any loss to the overall experience. Clone Wars show runner Dave Filoni, who also wrote most of the best Clone Wars episodes, does a lot of stuff on Mandalorian and he really gets what makes Star Wars good. I'm really keen to see what more he comes up with, including Mando season 3 which I refuse to watch the trailers for!

Are you talking about the IG droid? Because IG-88 was in The Empire Strikes Back!

@Alan Stock If you've finished The Clone Wars and enjoyed the good stuff, you should definitely check out Rebels too. It's another Filoni show, there's much less filler to wade through and it further develops some of the characters that would later appear in The Mandalorian.

Watched the trailer and realised I never actually watched the last episode of The Book of Boba Fett… which probably will explain a load of questions I have about…

Spoiler

…how Mando and Grogu are back together again

Spoiler

They could give two Friks. (sorry)

Also, watching a whole clan of Mandos go to town should be fun. Sure I saw one of their fancy fighter craft from the animated shows in there. Also, wonder if the brightly colored armour is some influence from Sabines time in charge?

So many unsubtle nods to SW’s greatest hits to dopamine us into forgetting how shit most stuff before Andor was, and rush us back to a more innocent, simple time.

Star Wars: The FanDeLorean.

Still gonna eat it up of course.

I didn’t think the trailer really had any real spoilers, which makes a change these days.

but

Spoiler

I was excited to see R4 get to go in the fighter!  Plus it would be great if they sneak Hayden Christian into what looks like an order 66 flasback. Would love to see him fighting some Jedi instead of just younglings.

  • Pob changed the title to The Mandalorian

It did smack of lack of confidence in their own product. Justifiably so when you look at how much better those 2 mando eps were.

Me too, but then a reasoned that it's an R4 droid, it'll probably get blown to bits after five minutes. Think it's just there as a reason to get grogu in the cockpit.

Star Wars series bingo card filling up nicely!

Andor (was so amazing this is one for the fans now) is now checked off, along with two Boba Fett mentions (1. Was shit, 2. Apart from Mando).

What are we waiting for next!?
