That was fucking cool, even if The Independent did manage a slight almost-spoiler with a headline.

 

Also it raises a lot of questions lore-wise.

I was impressed with how menacing they made the darktroopers. It felt very much like they captured the same low-framerate movement of stop-motion that always makes me feel uneasy.

 

Also, lol at Gideon going from smug to shitting himself in 60 seconds.

They've already said there's a third.

I thought that was really good.  Watched ep 7 and 8 together and as has been said all throughout the thread felt like proper starwars.  Good on peyton reed for his direction in the last episode but I think it's faverau and filoni that have been setting out the trajectory and it's been excellent.

I'm watching that again tonight don't expect it will lose any of its impact. Thinking about it throughout the day and it comes down to something quite simple... the pay-off. The outcome of the tension building, the threads of the plot that have been set-up and the awareness of what viewers not only want but need. We (well I certainly did) NEEDED that after the new trilogy. I don't hate them as movies, I just feel sad thinking back to all the moments where I was waiting for that pay-off that never came and in just a few episodes The Mandalorian has done that more than I ever thought possible.

 

It all started with A New Hope... in this show and the people behind it all now we have another :)

Well damn. Spoilered thoughts for the finale:

There was always the danger with the kind of fan service road they seemed to be heading down, that once, just once they may bite off more than they can chew, and the whole edifice comes crashing down, but somehow, somehow, they pulled it off.

 

When it's revealed who you know who is, it basically makes sense, because who else could it be? And the handling of such a character could easily be a Deus ex machina situation, but it had been built towards earlier. And specifically they got the tone right: the Jedi as depicted here as an angelic figure, appearing to inspire awe: both great and terrible, so the cast is not sure whether to be happy or on their guard. The music throughout has been absolutely bang on for the right tone.

 

And other episode thoughts:

 

Opening Mando titles music was changed to something more operatic which totally gave me goosebumps.

 

The Mandalorian/Boba fight was pretty funny.

 

The absolutely bitchin space pursuit sequences.

 

The Dark Troopers were an absolute masterclass of menace. That sequence when a single one fights Mando was incredible, and set them up as a genuinely horrifying threat. When he ran one through with the spear that was absolutely a Terminator reference. And the way they moved was definitely inspired by those films, you could just feel it through and through. Which added so much to their sense of menace.

 

So that is why, with the odds stacked against our heroes with a whole army of them coming, they lended weight to the sheer godlike ability of you know who. It wasn't just dumb superhero stuff - it gave you an actual comparison of how such a figure sits in this universe compared to the characters we've been watching all this time. So the angelic savour tone becomes wholly justified.

My first thought was that it was one of those new Republic x wings that kept turning up, which I can see now is why they included them throughout the series.

An X-wing? Nah. It can't be. It'll be one of those dudes from earlier in the season.

 

Oh - a hooded Jedi? Nah, it'll be Ahsoka. Which in itself is very cool but damn them for the deliberate tease!

 

Erm... I could have sworn that saber blade was GREEN....

 

Oh boy.

 

This season has absolutely nailed Star Wars. Best Disney have done with the franchise thus far, and with all last weeks announcements with new shows, it's really exciting because if any of them is half as good as this is, I'll be ecstatic.

 

Fantastic entertainment.

That was incredible! I have waited to see that sequence play out since I was ten. And I feel pretty emotional having watched it. 
 

There’s no where for the Mando to go on after:

handing over Baby Yoda (that’s the entire heartbeat/thread of show)

- so that’s it there will be no series 3. 

 

But that end credits sequence was a Fucking class way of announcing what the already filmed and announced Mando season 3 actually is. And explains all the rumours. I’m sure he will be back as a cameo character, but that’s it guys and girls the Mandelorian is done.

The Disney Star Wars series appear to be trapped in nostalgia for the old original trilogy era and just before. Fan service is great but I would like something new, hopefully The Book of Boba Fett moves away from how small the universe has started to feel

It was janky, but It's a TV show, so i'll cut them some slack on that.
