Now and again I forget about the sequels when watching this and get excited thinking what might come after this post-RotJ transitional era, then I remember they exist and it's just The Empire v2.0 (now with black uniforms!) and lol The Emperor's not dead and feel a bit sad.

On the flip side we will hopefully get brand new films that aren't at all tied to the Skywalkers and they might be actually really good.

Are we just going full on spoilers without tags now? Anyway,

I assume the clones are their attempts to make a "perfect" copy of the Emperor, and presumably Snoke is just the most successful failed experiment.

In ROS doesn't Palpatine say something about how he created Snoke? Or did I imagine that? I know they can retcon pretty much anything by saying it was true from a certain point of view...

Vaguely interested in watching that Clone Wars cartoon for the first time after people praising Dave Filoni in this thread, so started following that episode guide with the first season 3 episode about clone troopers and... I cannot get over that there is a children's cartoon where literal slaves bred for war are being trained to fight and die for "the good guys" and a character choosing not to go AWOL and return to his unit to fight and die in a war they've literally been made for is portrayed as a great and heroic thing. It's actually quite disgusting to watch.

Spoiler

Oh shit, what if snoke is one of the ones we saw in this very episode, and the reason for all the scarring is him escaping his pod during the lavaflows?

SW does like fucking people with lava....

That was Lucas' fault for the premise. The cartoon a decent enough job given that the before and after were already established.

To be fair, the entire moral basis for the story the Clone Wars show is based on is flawed, so it's merely continuing the problematic content.

The Clone Wars series does three amazing things:

1 - Makes Anakin a brilliant character

2 - Introduces Ahsoka

3 - Gives the Clones personalities which makes the fact they are bred to die in someone else's war even more tragic.

Considering what they had to work with, and knowing what came before and after in terms of AotC and RotS, they did a bloody brilliant job, imo.

So many youngsters simply love the Prequels. I found it completely baffling, but they love them as much as we love the OT.

I find that particularly hard to believe (although I know it’s true) about Phantom Menace, which is a two hour movie about a trade dispute. I watched it again recently with my eldest and it’s just a boring film.

I’ve been watching the whole lot with my son and yep, he loves the prequels.

The Phantom Menace has an appalling opening 30 minutes or so (trade disputes, blockades, senators etc) but once you get to the pod race it settles down into something more straightforward. My son thinks Jar Jar is really funny. Don’t be surprised when something that is aimed at kids is actually enjoyed by kids.

Yeah, it is a bit problematic, and it’s not just Jar Jar - the shifty oriental Trade Federation guys and the blantantly Jewish shopkeeper are as bad if not worse. I’m not actually defending the movie! But I can see why kids like it.

Do you mean Watto? How is he blatantly Jewish? I’ve just checked and it’s not him, but I always thought he was voiced by Cheech Marin! It’s a good impression of him.

A hook-nosed, skullcap-wearing greedy merchant ticks a LOT of boxes for Jewish stereotypes. I'm no expert so maybe I'm over-reaching here but Watto makes me as uncomfortable as Harry Potter's banking goblins.

Maybe you’re right. I’ve just never thought of it that way.
