Try this -

With MKVToolNix, open the file in the Header editor, then expand Video Track 1.
Find the values for "Video crop top" and "Video crop bottom".
Remove them and save (doesn't even require a remux!).

Clipboard02.jpg

Thanks for that. I had the 1080p version and the AR was stretched on MPC-BE. Setting the cropping to 0,0,0,0 let it display properly

Did no-one else get a bit of a Firefly vibe to this? The Mandalorian's voice made me half expect to see him take off the helmet to reveal Malcolm Reynolds underneath.

...I'm in no way saying this is a bad thing btw!

If they did the original trilogy in 4K with the original versions I’d be all over it like a rash

All Star Wars movies on Disney Plus are 4k - sadly not the originals.
I downloaded the 70mm print of Star Wars. It's about 80GB but watching it in all its impurities is fucking beautiful and takes you back to that first time as a kid watching it.

Not exactly

Spoiler

We see another of the species - Yaddle - in Phantom Menace. As people were unsure whether Yoda always looked shrunken and lined because of his species or his immense age, the little insertion of a Lady-Yoda kind of ruined that mystery! So yeah, it's not a big deal other than the fact we've only seen two and both are Jedi. So the show might make a 'thing' of their Force acuity?

As for people not liking the music, I deffo picked up what they were putting down. Especially as it wasn't just more riffs on Williams's stuff.

What was the significance of the ending?

Up to now did we think there was only one of Yodas race in the entire universe?

 no:

Spoiler

there was Yaddle in Episode 1, but she never spoke.  We know nothing of Yoda's species (not even a name) or where they come from.  So far I'm seeing the assumption that this baby must be force-sensitive, and that would explain why the imperial remnant are interested and want it dead.  Apparently Filoni got George Lucas' blessing to explore this more...

Silver Screen editions trump Despecialized IMO - the latter kept the different colour grading Lucas added (really obvious when R2 first encounters the Jawas). Silver Screen is the pure original cinema release. The only drawback is that they skipped over Empire (although I understand it's in the works).

It was fine. I think while 38 minutes might be fine for the other episodes, it's a little short for a pilot. Once you've done the place-setting, you've not got much room for anything else. Still, plenty to like: the effects were great (the jerky movement of the droid bounty hunter was terrific) and the world felt very tactile and lived-in. And the ending was great. I echo the complaints about the music - not so much that it was bad, it just didn't feel very Star Wars, and it was overbearing in places. It doesn't need to be slathered over every scene.

That was very good. It wasn’t great, the plot was a little thin, the music was meh, but a really promising start.

Spoiler

The IG droid was fabulous. Shame he took one to the brain cluster. BabaYoda was super cute (plushie please). Herzog was great. Creed was solid. Bit underwhelmed by the music. A few too many little nods to the OT for my tastes (Crumbkebab, doorbell etc). But...

It’s a live action Star Wars show that looks as good as the films. It took a while, but it’s actually a thing. Now don’t fuck it up Disney.

I quite liked the music, although I was a bit ill when I watched the episode.

Overall though, while I enjoyed it I thought it was very thin on plot and character. It felt a bit like watching one of those Old Republic CGI trailers, with very cool looking action but not much else. The running time didn't help here, so hopefully the second episode will add a bit more character.

According to the old canon (the books are no longer canon, right?) there are more than one IG88. The original managed to take over a manufacturing facility and made copies of itself. For efficiency.

I was quite surprised to see who plays the Mandalorian, I was convinced it was Timothy thingy from Justified.

All in all, it was alright. Some dodgy SFX in places, but decent otherwise. I'll reserve judgement until I've seen a few episodes.

Quote enjoyed but i think it definetly has room for improvement

that bit on the giant two legged space tadpoles was a bit shit and the music over it made it feel like it was trying to be Rocky, not sure it deserved a flash back sequence when we'd only spent about twenty minutes with the character but everything either side of that was enjoyable
