Didn't the monthly quest on the Xbox (do so many daily and so many weekly quests) used to be for 1000 points? I noticed this month it's only for 500 now. I was so angry I put my foot through my Xbox and sent Bill Gates the, er, bill.

Yes, it's gone down to 500 - BUT the points on some of the weekly quests have gone right up in balance - the fishing one 250 this week I think for example - so a couple of those and the total number of points you gain in a month is about the same - likely if you do all the weekly quests the points totals are actually higher now than they were. But certainly you can't get away with just the 'play' ones now and hit the same points level no.

Has anyone got any recommendations for Game Pass games with quick achievements that I can use to farm the daily achievement quest? So far I've been going through Donut County, with it leaving Game Pass soon.

Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master (Console and PC) has a load of really stupidly easy ones for doing stuff like changing options. Leaves in a week, though.

Taking with one hand and giving with the other. Indeed as you say, there is now an opportunity to get ~400 more points a month from the combo of weeklies and the monthly. However those specific 250 point weeklies now take a lot more time than the 25 points for starting a game.

The rewards system is still very generous but from a business perspective you can certainly understand wanting to cut down on it a little. If people are able to never pay for GPU as a result of the rewards system you've probably tipped over into being too generous. It's a fine balancing act. I think they're still quite a way from it being in any way stingy, overall, though.

It's funny.

The whole Microsoft points thing almost becomes a game in itself, a little like daily quests in an mmo

And in our house it's also a good way of gauging whether actually playing a game would be acceptable in the immediate future. "I'm just putting the Xbox on for a few minutes to get my points," is the opening move in this meta-meta-game. Then my opponent wife will usually respond with either of her two standard moves: "Hurry up then, I want to watch [X]," or, "Mmm, OK," (the latter without lifting her eyes from her phone or iPad). Occasionally she will throw in a curveball like "Well before you start messing about on that can you bring some washing down/take the bins out/otherwise contribute to the upkeep of this festering hole," but I consider matches that end that way to be score draws really.

The fishing in Stardew Valley is really annoying. Hooking a fish seems very random and I can't get the timing right at all. Reeling it in is fine, but it is – overall – utter bobbins.

EDIT: Changed typo 'can' to 'can't'

I hate to go "git gud" but it's one of those things that just takes practice. I've put 100s of hours into Stardew Valley, so it's properly a doddle for me, even with the crap rod, no special hook and no bait. But I also remember how annoying it was when I started and it basically made my kids give up playing it really early on.

As I said a bit further up, there's a mod for the PC version that removes the fishing minigame, so disliked is it by players.

? I don't think I want the 4.2p in points that much.

This is the key thing here. There's been plenty of times where I've checked the rewards hunter video for a quest and gone "nah, fuck that". Sometimes I've just looked at the length of a video and noped out.

Though I will say, I only discovered the Sniper Elite games because of a quest, so some of them may be worth the effort.

There was this weird hole game recently where you just moved a never ending hole around a screen to catch things. I only played it for a few points but lost about 6 hours in a single weekend 🤣

Donut County. It's leaving Game Pass next week but it's bloody great. Like a reverse Katamari Damacy.

Would you be able to come over to my house and get the remaining 23 fish for me please? I don't think I want the 4.2p in points that much.

If you go into the shop and buy the training rod it helps -bigger bar and much easier fish.

I get roughly 20k a month doing the basics (I am lucky enough to have the PC play with friends one) and this month is the same, just the points are shifted around a bit. Only 500 for the monthly quest thing but instead of two 25 pt weekly games ones that are "play/open the game" it is 1 for 5 points to play/open a game and 250 pts for a longer challenge. So overall it is just as generous just focus changes a bit month to month.

I have only done one of the 250 pt weeklies so far as they were mostly time sinks/busy work I wasn't interested in.

there is a noise, a vibration and I think a visual prompt too when the fish is on the hook and you just press X. I just hit X the second i feel the vibration

+500 'Dynamic Duos' punch card has gone up today on Xbox dashboard, but is dated 1-28 February, so don't try to do it yet.

Click to activate punch card, then get an achievement in one of these games:

Unravel Two

A Plague Tale - Requiem

Eastward

Dishonored 2

Assassins Creed Origins

Mass Effect 3

Escape Academy

Gears of War 4

Lost In Random

OPUS: Echo of Starsong

Again, don't do it yet, even though it appears to be live already.

Oh that's nice, I'm partway through Opus at the moment, and it's fairly generous with achievements (as well as being a nice choose-your-own-adventure style game in its own right).
