Well this is odd. Redd is at mine again. Had him once right at the start of the game for the intro thing then nothing for a couple of months until last Friday and now again today. He has:

A fake moving painting

A fake wistful painting

A real calm painting which I have purchased

A fake academic painting

Opening my gates to friends now. You will need a ladder to reach Redd. Reneigh is crafting a Hyacinth lamp, she’s on the left outside the airport. Help yourselves to recipes next to the plaza and anything left in the shops.

I have had Redd three times in 50 days, and Kicks twice in the last 4 days.

Kicks is in a different set of visitors. Comes every week. Along with Saharah and Leif.

Redd shares spawns with Gulliver, Flick, CJ and Label.

I had a 10 minute chase at the weekend.  Initially I didn't want to go close to the edges as I thought I remembered they used to escape through it in New Leaf.

Eventually I got fed up and forced the shadow into a corner and got it.  It didn't seem to be able to escape through the edge but that may have just been luck.

The creature turned out to be a

giant isopod

Spoiler

Thats how I eventually caught it.

Thanks, popped over to get that recipe as didn't have it. Picked up 2 earlier today at @Tetmon Island, first time I've had 3 new recipes in a day since forever! Might be 4 as still need to go Scallop fishing later on.  Pascal has given me pearls the last couple of days so fingers crossed for a recipe card

Already have all of those fakes so didn't visit Redd

Slow down. If you approach slowly they don’t swim off. Stop using A at all. Get on top of it then dive. If you’re facing the right way but slightly off then one tap of A should get it.

Yeah, I'd guessed that there would be a technique like that but after trying and failing a good few times I went for the corner trap instead

Noob question but is there any way to know if the art is real other than checking a guide online?

Knowing the real piece of part and spotting the mistake (i.e. wearing a hat or not when then shouldn't). Made a little harder by the pieces not having their real names up front which I think is a bit of a shame for letting people do it themselves.

Whilst it’s a little annoying how the wetsuit works at least it doesn’t remove what you wear under it.

Personally that's what I'd prefer, so the wetsuit is just another 'dress up' item that just happens to let you swim. I'm not bothered about keeping clothes under it, if I want out of it, I'll get changed. I dunno, things could be worse I guess. I remember in the first few games, when equipping a tool it was removed from the inventory, which you could then fill, and not be able to put away your tool...

I have Pirate Gulliver on the island today. I'm curious to see what he sends me...

I was really hoping I'd get Gulliver as he has not been for a while.  Got Flick instead which is always good, looking forward to the walking leaf model tomorrow

When are they going to make Isabelle announce who’s on the island???!

Am I right in thinking you can just check your map to see if Redd is at the cove?

Yes. That works for Redd

We've been trying to get rid of one particular villager for a while. We have ignored him, been rude to him, refused when he wants to call us by a nickname and generally been a dick to him. He won't leave. He won't take the hint.

Other villagers, who we like, want to leave on odd occasions but never this one. We have had campsite visitors several times who can't stay because we are full. So what are we doing wrong and how do we get rid of this unwanted villager?

Repeatedly pushing them long distances or hitting them with the net is supposed to work. I can’t bring myself to do it though.

I wish Henry the smug dickhead frog would leave. Nice furniture, mind.

We've hit Frank many times with a net until he's complained 3 times and is left fuming. He still won't bloody leave. Not tried pushing him yet, maybe we could push him off the pier.

Is there any trick to spawning a fly?

I've left a can, a tyre and a boot next to each other in the open air, and a crafted trash bag next to them for good measure.  They've been there for at least two weeks now, but I've never seen a fly near them.  I thought maybe it was because it was always raining, but it's a sunny day today on my island and still nothing.

I still believe it's just patience. Ignore them entirely (like blocking them behind a fence around their house). Only talk to them when they have the thought bubble and hope it's them asking to leave. Not read of anyone getting any better approach than this.

Oh an escaping will happen. Sometimes they just warp off rather than leaving the house normally.

It took me bloody ages. Rotten Turnip did it in the end - it seems to generate ants 99% of the time, but eventually spawned a fly. It was the least enjoyable thing I’ve done in the game so far.

I had a rotten turnip there for a week too.  Binned it once I had collected 4 ants.

The easiest way to evict someone is wait for a camper to appear, convince them to live there, then hope they suggest the villager in question. If not, quickly reset the game and try again until hopefully they pick your unwanted villager. It takes a hell of a lot of patience, but so does waiting weeks/months for the head cloud.

But of course you might not want the camper, so otherwise it's just a waiting game. I don't even think ignoring them helps. I've had villagers that I've showered with attention and gifts that bring up leaving.
