I'm currently experimenting with putting less items in the studio whilst still getting 15 hearts so that I can spend less time on it. Am guessing I can also get away with just dumping all the furniture in a pile and not placing it in a nice layout but not tried that yet.  I always just use 100% Cyrus event pieces

 

One tip I only recently discovered is that you can copy an already customised item with ZR so don't need to place and then customise every single item.

 

Have opened for visitors for the afternoon, please buy anything from the shops and take recipes.  Kit Cat is making Oil Barrel Bathtub

Flick is visiting today (yes!) so nothing for visitors there.

 

I think I've had people watering my gold roses as have seen sparkles on them recently, this does nothing so don't waste your time watering any of my flowers

Not sure if it’s a bug or what but last few times I’ve just packed it with the appropriate colour furniture, and then added as many residents as I can then if you throw a party and speak to Reese you get the 15 hearts without even bothering with a photo.

I’ve had him here twice. The most recent being 27th of April. Utter shite. All the other visitors have been a million times each.


In classic Rllmuk fashion, the day after posting this, Redd appeared on my island! The AC equivalent of finally beating Ornstein & Smough after coming on here and pissing about it! :) 

 

WHAT’S MORE, he was selling one of my favourite artworks of all time! ‘Las Meninas’ by Velazquez! I thiiiiink it’s a legit painting, but we’ll find out if I need to hand in my art school tutor’s staff card tomorrow, whenever Blathers has a look at it once it’s delivered :ph34r:

This is the real secret. I customise w single wedding chair to the colour they ask for and then hammer ZR to fill the room with them. Finally I clear a path from the entrance to reese. Take a photo and done. Perfect score. Takes no more than a minute or two tops.

I did a personal summary of my time with New Horizons exactly one month after its release. It was a month filled with fun, joy, magic and the realization that Nintendo still doesn't know how to online multiplayer. 

 

In two days the game has been out for three months and the game really feels different now. A lot has happened in the last couple of months. The game was released just as the world started to lock down and everyone was at home. A lot of people turned to Animal Crossing as their day job and because of it there were always a bunch of islands open for visit. Almost at any given hour of the day I could go to the airport and search for open islands and there would always be around a handful to choose from, on top of the ones that got shared with a dodo code on this forum (or even Facebook). Well into the second month it was as if people were beginning to go in different directions with the game and four groups of players stood out. 

 

The first group, of which I think I belong to the most was the people who still spent the days island hopping in search for inspiration, recipes and new stuff to buy. A lot of us played the game many hours every day but in my case little happened on my own island as I was more away on other islands than spending time on my own. 

 

The second group that stood out to me was the flower group. A good bunch of our fellow players had discovered all the rules for the flower breeding part of the game and hard core watering groups emerged. People had their islands open while they were afk and had set up impressive flower fields that needed to be watered daily. I never officially joined any of these groups but as I was island hopping anyway I always watered the flowers whenever I landed on a flower breeding island. I was quickly impressed with how quickly some of these people started to get rare flowers and before long blue roses and green mums were all over the place. This inspired me to get my own rare breeds but as I was always out flying I rarely got others to water my flowers which ended up with a very slow progress. Now I have all but the green mums but I suspect the first one will pop up any day now. 

 

The third group were the cataloguers. Some days while exploring I could land on an island filled with green leaves left on the ground for cataloguing. While getting as many items as possible in a short time was never a part of my own agenda the temptation quickly arised whenever I saw these fields of items just lying around. At times I stopped to catalogue some stuff but mostly I managed to just run past and go shop in the respective Crannies and Mabels' instead. I'm still impressed how quickly some of you guys got full sets of items, though, I'm pretty sure it took a lot of planning between you guys to coordinate cataloguing events. 

 

The fourth group that started to emerge was the late comers. Those who had been prevented from getting the game on release or simply thought it never was for them but decided to give it a go based on the activity in this very thread. While the majority of us had already got the Island Planner app and the upgraded cranny, quite a lot of fellow forumites set up camp and turned to the forum for help and hints. I've had a good time helping these guys out and it was amazing to travel to their fresh island to be reminded of just how barren and limited the beginning of the game really is. It was almost as if I'd travelled back in time to witness how life started and it was a great reminder of just how much time and effort I'd put into the game. 

 

So then, three months in and I still play daily. I just don't play as much as I used to. Society has slowly started to re-open and I spend less time working from home. On average I used to play for 8 hours every single day, now I'm down to 2 hours, at best. I'm probably now at the pace the game was intended to be played, living on an island that that under normal circumstances wouldn't be as complete until at least 6 months of gaming but it doesn't matter. Just shy of 400 hours clocked I'm still under the impression that New Horizons has given me some of the most magical moments of video gaming in my entire life. 

During a historical pandemic where we were told to honour the social distancing recommendations you opened up your virtual homes and lives for me to take part in, getting a glimpse of how you all dealt with the lockdown. While some of you decided to build a mini Disney World with wild designs and impressive displays, a place that was clearly designed to house and please a lot of people, others went for the minimalistic approach with a design that clearly resembled an isolated island, a place to take cover from the surrounding world, a place to be safe. 

 

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for your kindness and for letting me be a part of what surely has been a very special journey for a lot of us. With the real world slowly and gradually getting back to normal I've already seen that some of us spend a lot less time in New Horizons and perhaps some islands will be abandoned for good now. I've taken a lot of screenshots on my travels and should the Switch still be a thing when my grandchildren grows up, these screenshots will be their fossils. They can come to grandpa Stig Blathers, formerly from Embryo island and I'll assess those fossils for them and tell them stories of a virtual world of a thousand islands that all my friends escaped to during a global pandemic and OH what stories they will be :wub:

Edit: This took ages to type and when posted it ends up in between 2 posts about weather lol.

 

Has anyone been using the latest datamining tool by Ninji, the weather (and shooting star) calculator?

There are over 2 billion seeds which determine when and what type of weather you get, and when a shooting star will happen. The seed you have was decided when your island was created.

 

Last night I input data into the calculator. I had a screenshot of a thunderstorm I took in May which handily had a time and date on it. Celeste was there lat night which meant I could log the times shooting stars occurred. I had a sparse night of shooting stars, 1 burst in the 21:00 hour, then nothing until the 23:00 hour when I got 1 more burst.

 

With just those data points (and the log of no stars in between) as well as weather logging from 17:00 was enough to reduce the possible seeds from over 2 billion down to just 17. 

 

I had to stay awake for 1 more shooting star! That could reduce it down to a few!

 

By 0:15 I updated the log of no stars and checked again. Just 2 seeds left! One had a shooting star at 0:19 and the other at 0:23. 0:19 came and went with no stars, that left only 1. If I got shooting stars at 0:23 I'd cracked it. If not I'd fucked something up and would have to do it all again...

 

0:23 came, I waited... Waited... It felt like an eternity... Have I fucked it up? *Shooting star* YAAAS! I checked the now confirmed seed and it showed the times the stars came to the second:

 

00:23:19, 00:23:46, 00:23:48, 00:23:51, 00:23:55

 

That 19 seconds waiting for the first star felt like a lifetime lol

 

Now for any given year, month, day, hour, I know what the weather will be, when shooting stars will occur (to the second), when I'll see rainbows. It turns out I have never had a heavy shooting star night (the one that Isabelle mentions), my 1st one will be Monday the 17th of August.

Is the weather chosen based on real world weather in the user's location?  I've had rain every day for about a week, in the middle of June!

I wondered that and it would be a nice touch.  The datamining guy has just released MeteoNook (https://wuffs.org/acnh/weather/) which does actually predict the weather.  When I get some time later today I am going to see if I can set it up for my town

Momentous day today:

 

- woke up to 2 purple pansies. That's all the flowers done. Massive thanks to all those who've watered, I'm sure I've made things more difficult than necessary at times. Spent this morning remodelling my entrance now there's no need for a watering patch (OK there's a small one for cloning the pansies over the next couple of days) 

- it's my birthday. For those of you yet to have it in game, there's a little bit of fun to be had :)

You are more than welcome to come see our island. It's raining at the minute so fishing is good. Free recipes and stuff by the airport. Please water the gardens behind the museum, we're trying for hybrids now. I'll open the gates now for anyone who wants to pop in.
