Saturday morning car boot / Bargain Hunt.

Free to take, just leave a few for others. There's pinball, antiques and a few other gems.

All ask is that you give my pansies a sprinkle!

Thanks for the add. Watered the plants, catalogued all the stuff and then it crashed. Apologies if it was me.

I have Henry, he's rubbish. Nice house, mind - lots of ironwood stuff. But he's an annoying little tit. The only smug villager I've ever got on with was Lionel the classy middle-aged lion on my old island. Would sign him back up in an instant.

Speaking of which, what's everyone's personality mixes on their island? We've got:

1 x Sisterly (Tammi the cub, who is OK, but I'd swap for Katt in a heartbeat)

1 x Peppy (Flora the flamingo, who is ace)

1 x Jock (Sprocket the robot ostrich, who I quite like for a jock, but find his weird little hairs repellent)

1 x Smug (Henry the dickhead frog)

1 x Lazy (Pudge the constipated cub, good lad)

2 x Snooty (Tipper the cow and Pecan the chipmunk - both OK, I prefer Pecan)

1 x Cranky (Admiral the bird, I like him)

1 x Normal (Annalisa the anteater, pretty ace)

...with one slot free in case I get someone ace turn up at the campsite.

Just wondering if other people opt for a specific personality type, or if everyone likes a mix. I like the variety of conversation, and I think I read somewhere that only certain personality types craft certain recipes.

I can't believe I've paid £40 to be mortgaged to the hilt to an anthropomorphic tunooki.

I've currently got over twice what I need to pay the last mortgage off and I'm just not bothering.

I'm enjoying what must be his internal turmoil as I order yet another £165,000 bridge while I owe him 2.4 mil.

We have Lionel the posh old Lion, he's mint and a definite keeper.

I try to get a mix but when someone leaves the kids always choose someone who looks cool. Hence Drago moved in this morning meaning I have yet another bloody jock

A question for the pro flower growers...have any of you had sucess with getting the blue rose off the method shown in this image?

Spoiler

BvV2YkM.png

I see there's another much higher probability method in another pic from that guide, but it's also much higher effort, with like 27 steps or something. I've got a couple of the hybrid reds needed for the last step now and a load of pairs of orange/purples so hopefully more reds coming soon off them. Hopefully if I plant enough of them reds it won't be too long 'til at least one sprouts a blue

The method is valid but you need to go big for two reasons:

  • Firstly, and obviously those two reds together at the end only have a 1.6% chance of producing a blue flower (when they breed).
  • Second is not shown on the picture. The orange and purple breed in the final step can produce four different flowers. Two of them are white and two of them are red. They might look the same but because of genes two two reds are not identical. And only one of the two can make blues when bred with itself. The other red is useless. And the issue... you have no way to tell them apart.

Because of the second point you need to churn out lots of these reds. Normally I’d say clone after you have one of what you need and scrap the breeding pairs. But because you don’t know what’s good or bad here you just have to keep spawning more reds from the orange/purple combo.

You also want to plant in blocks not specific pairs (basically you want just enough spaces for new flowers to spawn into). This way different pairs breed each night so you’re mixing up and hoping a good pair breed. You might also consider moving the flowers around occasionally to mix them up again.

Your big block of reds is going to spawn more reds. These should be mixed back into your planting as some of these reds can make blues too (but not all).

Cheers! Yeah I've had purples and been cloning those for a while, so got a few already to pair with the oranges and now been cloning these oranges, but I saw the little note with the asterisk at bottom of the pic mentioning it's 50/50 for the reds to even work to get you the 1.6% chance so I'd already come to conclusion it's probably not worth cloning them as they could well just be duds.

Good tips with the block planting and switching round, thanks :hat:

And while I'm at it I might see about having a little area to go at the more complicated higher output route as well.

@Meatball FWIW I used the same method as you and made a LOT of red hybrids which @thesnwmn and others helped water. 5 waterers per day to get the numbers up really helped. There will be a few days where you will doubt your method... It took maybe a week or so and perhaps 30+ red hybrids before I saw the first blue. Concensus in the group seems to be that I got very lucky. But don't tell me the odds! Stick with it and be patient. Good luck!
