After what feels like forever (about 40 hours) I FINALLY have the proper town hall and shop. Either I'm doing it wrong or this game has the most ridiculous lead-in time. Now I can actually do things like add bridges and inclines it feels like the game really begins.

It's better to think of it in real life days than hours played. It this that gates progress. You could play non-stop for 20 hours on the first day and you'll have nothing more than someone who plays for 3 hours.

Aye, there were days when I could do sod-all because something hadn't spawned or whatever. Then there were days where I could sit there for 3 or 4 hours and never get everything done. I feel like I'm not getting the most out of this game when I read this thread. A lot of the talk makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong. Yet it's been nice just pottering about selling stuff and moving trees about. Are people doing these designs with a pad or is there an easier way to do it?

It’s easy to get overwhelmed and to have island envy. Pottering about is completely legit! People get different things out of the game, some are bang into designs, some the relationships and rp, some catching bugs and fish and others maxing out the turnip market. 
 

The main thing I think is “you do you.”

 

I actually did have some ideas about areas I could put into the game and sketched them out. All of them ended up being different from the original as you push and pull bits about in the game and tinker. 
 

It’s all a continual WIP, without a specific end goal in my case!

If anyone fancies getting a Jock dog, Mac is in boxes in Flapston. Leif is selling Hyacinths and Lillies, and there are plenty of spare fossils and recipes near the airport. Pietro is in the tent, but apparently you can only invite from your own tent.

Mac is one of my favourites after I initially hated his stupid angry looking face. Would recommend!

Redd is in my town, he had two genuine things so I bought the statue, but there's a legit copy of the great wave there if anyone wants to come grab it. If there's anyone who already has it or doesn't care who wouldn't mind buying the fakes and posting them to me I'll give you the cash. 

 

I've opened the gate to friends now (Paddy from Binkton). I'll be AFK as I'm working but I'll try to keep half an eye on it. There's free stuff behind ables and recipes to take from the bins behind the town hall. Flowers are top left if anyone fancies watering. Nook's still has some bunting.

Dropped in. Lovely island there. Took some Dino fossils and some recipes. If you need bells or some specific themed item let me know and I’ll come across with it in a bit. 

 

Love seeing indifferent islands for ideas.
 

Also enjoyed seeing you chilling with your cuppa

I've not had Redd at all since the first time his boat turns up. It's frustrating. Left me a bit jaded if I'm honest. I like that completing the art takes time but the current state means it's simply not a part of the game for me at all.

 

Apparently this is how it's meant to work:

Clearly reality depends on how priority works but if it's just a simple rolling system of the three not there this week have priority next and no carry over then you could get unluck and see one guest continually in the increased priority 3 but missing out through bad luck. Seems like it might be a system made for before the game released and there were only 4 visitors in that pool.

 

I'd say Leif and Kicks should be booted from the weekly set and replaced with Redd.

The wave is gone already I'm afraid, but I'll be about all day near enough to the switch to reconnect if I'm offline at any point, so you could grab one of the fakes if you just want art. They're both very subtle forgeries that don't look silly. 

 

Redd has been to my town about six times now, not including the first one. I've not had a single meteor shower yet though.

Redd has been to Flapston twice so far, but I've never seen Celeste. I don't even know what I'd be looking for, where would she be? I do wish the observatory was in the game, because it was fun creating constellations like "The Great Beard" and "Lina Minor", and even better when a random new one appeared after someone visited.

 

Actually, that is what is bugging me about this version. The internet has led to a reduction in the more organic sharing we used to get. Sure, everyone is visiting everyone else, but it's all about collecting. I used to love it when an animal referenced something unexpected.

 

Nobody writes on message boards now. Nobody puts designs in Able"s. (Except me, I do it every chance I get!) And, while the game is still beautiful, the experience is a little poorer. Here's hoping they add more ways to cross-pollinate ideas, because that is what made so many fall in love with the game to start with.

I think you still get some off that stuff. In between my son endlessly writing the word Ass my town board has had some lovely messages, which are in fairness all from people on here. I love leaving my gate open then returning to have my villagers tell me about other people’s weird titles and visitors I had that I didn’t even know about because I wasn’t at my switch and they didn’t say anything or leave a message.
