Can’t stop thinking of that video with the game shortcuts and how annoying it is. Press A to Craft All and Hold L to pave everything is the equivalent of wrapping an elastic band around your DualShock and going AFK.

And no thanks, don’t want everyone running around with a stack of 200 bait rinsing the hell out of everything. If bait was so easy then why not just dig it straight out of the ground? Think of the wildlife!

Crafting from storage in the home though

Is there an item I can craft that says "Weavus, you really should pay attention to the red icons at the top of this page" ;)

I like the balancing of what you need to take with you, how much you can carry and when it’s time to go back to storage.

I always have Soft Wood and Hard Wood in my pockets. And when I run out of Hard Wood, it’s time to go home.

I think one thing that's really interesting about Animal Crossing is the design choices. Sure it would be easier to be able to craft 10 axes. But it would be easier to just pop open your phone and text the animals. It would be easier to just check what's in the shop from your phone. Or trade your turnips. But obviously a game that just mimics a phone app isn't what people want.

The most efficient way to design a game where you perform the tasks you do in Animal Crossing is to make Sim City. The perspective and controls are just better for things like designing paths and planting trees. But that's not the experience this game is about. I don't think I could design something that feels like Animal Crossing, so I'm not sure which decisions are important to that feeling.

Streamlining Animal Crossing goes against the whole ethos of the thing IMO. I've driven myself mad trying to find the quote (from ~2005!) but even the control scheme is purposefully a bit fussy to give the game an actual texture. Maybe that's just me - the whole race to unlock/optimise everything as the dominant way to play the game the first month of its existence makes me uncomfortable. It's not an F2P cookie clicker or Fortnite, you're not meant to hoover up all of the content in the game in anticipation of next month's new Season Pass additions.

I worry people are going to burn it out and start complaining in about 3 weeks when they realise there's not a steady stream of new fossils to spend V-bucks on and this is basically it.

Naaa. I didn’t see that video as about content at all. It’s functionality. Where’s the fun content about hammering A to craft just 5 bait. It’s stupid.

I'm not thinking about repetition so much as pace. This is game that was meant to be played for about 15-30 min a day over a period of years. When you start to take out the things that force you to spend a day on fishing, or on fossil hunting, rather than zipping around the island spinning plates on everything at once, I wonder if you've still got Animal Crossing.

IDK maybe I'm just becoming a middle aged fart complaining about kids these days not having the attention span for a real game with their mobile phones and farming Exotic Destiny dab emote drops.

You can’t even collect all your fruit or all your shells or all your rocks, or give gifts to your neighbours, or visit just one mystery island in 15 minutes. It’s definitely not meant to be played like that.

I need a beard. Where'd y'all get beards? Able's has only stocked novelty glasses with nose and mustache at mine so far!

My Able's currently has a rounded beard if you want to come get it? SW-2225-4908-7401 Has anyone seen any other beards?

Agree with much of what Alex and Rob say Re: UI streamlining. There's a lot in that video that would go against the AC grain, but also a few things that would be greatly appreciated. I'm broadly against anything that involves slapping on more HUD, GUI, arrows, etc. I really don't need to know how much items are worth at all times, sticking ugly numbers on everything. But other stuff, like linking storage to crafting could be good. Your clothes in storage are linked to all dressers/drawers/freezers(??) so it would be consistent. Even the 'hold A to keep paving in x direction' is a good idea I think, but it doesn't need the ugly arrows on screen. It could be something people either stumble upon or learn online.

I'm also surprised they don't mention the online stuff*, or the awful wand system (I buried my wand in storage now...) Honestly, just removing load times when moving from room to room in the house and the museum would be a massive QoL improvement. You would think it possible with a digital/cartridge-based game to load these relatively tiny areas quickly.

*Shit, they did mention it right. That's actually the one part that really felt especially against the grain, making selections in boring menus. Calling the airport though, I'd be all over that.

Edit: I've pulled two coelacanths out of the sea in a matter of minutes today, after fishing for two hours for one on a rainy island the other night. It seems there are gradations of rain and you're much more likely to come across one if it's a heavy downpour. :sherlock:

I've not been into the flower thing at all, but my island has a random day-glo pink tulip that popped up and I'll protect it with my life. Can flowers wither and die? I hope not. Imagine if you had to bring them all indoors for winter.

Thanks to Nook Tickers Queenie will be moving to my island tomorrow to replace Angus. She's apparently one of the original villagers but I don't remember her living in one of my towns before.

I have the beard from that picture you responded to, I’ll add you when I’m playing again.

Yes!! They’re proper dayglo pink aren’t they!

I don’t do the flower breeding thing, I just have a few gardens that can produce hybrids. And I got one of those yesterday and it bloomed today! It looks amazing.

It must be exciting to produce the hybrid stuff in mass, and we do need the ability to buy them for recipes, but there’s something very special about just having one hybrid on your island and giving it a special, carefully chosen place to live ^_^

I’m not sure that’s accurate then, I’d I just produced pink from a red/yellow bed.

I think these are just the ones with the highest chance of getting particular types. So the various colours of cosmos have a chance of producing more than one particular colour.

You can mess about with this planner https://gardenscience.ac/

A red and red always produce red, red and yellow only produce orange and 2 yellow will only produce yellow if they are from seeds. If you have flowers not from seeds then all bets are off.

Is Queenie one that people want then? I've been wanting to kick her off our island, I'm not a fan of snooty villagers.

Good idea to move it actually. Mine's right on the way from the airport to the plaza, prime footfall area. I might place it in the far North at my shrine to the memory of Tortimer.

I don’t think so but she’s my first new resident after the original ten. I don’t mind snooty villagers, it’s the ones that just talk about working out that bore me.

Ah, yes. Good point. Fuck knows where it’s from. Probably was produced in the original bed of red and yellows.

When you come back after being AFK for 6 hours with your gates open...

EXWO-KQUwAUAQB_?format=jpg

And find 6 more DIY cards than when you started...

EXWPHxOUMAEEYkv?format=jpg

And every one of the items (about 1mill worth) you left out for cataloging still there.

Wish I could see how many people popped by, unless you chat there is no record of who came :(

Gates still open if you want some DIY recipes or cataloging. Looks like Del is crafting a Racoon Figurine as well.

you can tell in a round about way from the list of people in you send to list for posting letters/ catalogue items.  its listed most recent person you met (on any island) first so if you know who was the last person you met before opening up you will be able to work it out

The bird models are relatively rare which makes them more desirable.

Is Tortimer Dead? Can we get a poster of him?

I bought over four recipes and there were five left where you were sitting so I tidied them all up after I’d picked up and put down the 20 inch TV and shower cubicle.
