Im also chasing the blue rose. This seems to be the holy grail of flowers. I believe I have 3 hybrid reds so I'm hoping this finally produces the blue

I'm using two hybrid reds from purple and orange. Hoping that works.

Need help with the other hybrids mentioned earlier too :(

That was certainly weird enough

A slight feeling of envy as you've got Audie, though.

PS: Does your Pietro call you Covidbuddy too?

I haven’t noticed yet.

His house has amazing cloud wallpaper and flooring though, which I want to steal.

What’s the max number of villagers? I’ve unlocked the amiibo kiosk and found a bunch of my cards but I’m not sure if I have room for all the cool people.

10 villagers in total, including you and any other family member/friend you share the Switch with.

Pfft, I’m not having my kid mess up my island, I bought him his own copy. I think I’ve got enough spaces but if I’m one short I guess I’ll have to neglect Pango until she leaves.

If I don't get a purple pansy, a purple hyathinth (sp?), A green mum or a blue rose in the next few days I might throw a major tantrum.

PLEASE somebody confirm the correct combos for the above because it's been two weeks and I've had nothing.

I don't have any of the others but am 99% sure that my purple pansies came from blues that I brought back from island tours.  I brought back loads early on from a couple of tours, maybe as many as 30 - 40 and they have very slowly produced purples.  Mostly they just give me more blues.  I don't think I have yet had a purple from other purples but not 100% sure on that.

I can give you a bunch of blues that probably originate from the island tours if that helps, there will likely be some locally originated ones in with them.

I’m getting humped on the stalk market this week, 55 bells this afternoon and that’s the best it’s been so far, my island’s economy is going to tank if I don’t get a good price tomorrow!

I've never had a good price either!  I've been reliant on the goodwill of other islands to visit.

I hear you! I purchased a second switch pretty much so the kids could both play at the same time. My daughter shares with me and has made some very odd choices. Tree stumps and discarded rocks all over the place!

This has now passed Stardew in terms of time played on my Switch, somewhere north of a modest 25 hours, but I still wouldn’t say I’ve had a moment of fun or satisfaction with it.

I’d probably have got as much enjoyment out of playing minesweeper for a day, while changing my desktop wallpaper every so often to the result of googling a random item in the dictionary.

Lockdown!

I think after a few weeks of playing this it’s time to give a fair critique of it. I’d love to hear some impressions from those who played New Leaf, a game I never tried myself, has it improved upon the updated formula that was established there? It’s been 18yrs since I previously played animal crossing, time goes! I heard about it when it was in development as a 64DD game and found the concept intriguing. Picked up a USA copy with a freeloader from the local indie and for the next two months it dominated my gaming life before I got bored of it. I found it pretty limited especially with no friends to play, thus missing the social element. Still miss those NES games, that was a sweet addition (why none in New Horizons?) and the potential of the concept was there to see which really needed the internet and more meatier hardware to open it up. With later additions coming on handhelds that we’re lesser grunt-wise and basically a repackaged GameCube (passed on DS and Wii versions as they seemed more of the  same). It’s taken nearly 20yrs to get the real next gen Animal Crossing that I was looking forward to.

I know the strengths of the game so it’s strange to criticise something that’s consumed my gaming hours for the last month but for such a good game there is so many flaws. A personal disappointment for someone whose previous game was the original is how it’s concept has evolved. From Nintendo trying to create a game that was built around developing relationships and communication it’s become something less altruistic in concept, from what I’d describe as a cute relationship simulator it’s become a cute capitalism simulator. Work, grind, sell, pay off debts, take on more debt, work, grind even harder. It’s even got its own version of the stock market! Take a break from the daily grind to indulge in materialism. Buy and collect and collect and collect... pad out and enrich your virtual life with meaningless trinkets. Animal crossing collectathon, and strangely addictive it is, but much like real life there’s a hollow nature to the materialism. Rather than a game about building relationships it’s morphed into something that’s  just reflective of reality in cute clothing. Less of an escapism and more of indoctrination of our own world. That for me I find most disappointing.

Next criticism; it’s one of the most tedious and frustrating games I think I’ve ever played.  First it’s grindy, dear god it’s grindy. Maybe it feels more so because there’s more that you need bells for on here but my god it’s grindy. Sure Animal Crossing can be taken at your own pace but that just feels like how much grind you’re willing to with stand before you give up for the day. You grind for bells, to pay off your loan that’s always been there but now the game demands that you grind for material to craft items that’s a necessity to progress also.  And this isn’t a one off deal either because Nintendo thought it necessary to introduce into the chilled out world of Animal Crossing the worst element of BOTW. Seemingly they must think that gamers are masochists and love the idea of having the very essential tools that are needed to access every aspect of the game, never mind progress it, shatter on them regularly. So you must regularly grind to gather the materials to make the basic tools that you use to grind out more materials, items and bells. The fuck Nintendo, really?

So far events have subscribed to the grind. Easter and fishing so far, grind out recipes or grind out 300 points. No real creativity no imagination but worst of all breaking a game concept thats supposed to be more about personal pace. If you want to achieve in these events you must spend hours grinding, no other option. The less remembered about the clusterfuck that was the whole Easter event the better.

So crafting... why does every item need a conversation? This game is already grindy so why not make the core aspect of the game as tedium free as possible? Every item has its own messages that you must go through, much like every bug, fish  or object must have a pause and animation. Cute but do we really have to sit though the same messages hundreds of times? Especially as most concern the most basic of functions.  And no multiple crafting and then making you have to craft an item to be able to craft an item therefore forcing you to sit through the same animation and messages over again. I’m sure Nintendo are deliberately torturing us.

And simple ways to streamline the experience, not only multi crafting but having access to your storage all the time? Why can’t a crafting bench wherever give you access to your storage? Instead of making you have to return home to grab the items needed to craft an item. The grid layout in the house is great option for organising the home but why isn’t this function not extended to the outside seeing as being able to personalise your village is just as important? Instead you’re going to have to get used to that that can’t place object/ plant object message. Or get annoyed as a placed tree or object ends up where you didn’t want it. Just another layer of needless frustration.

But despite all that there’s a charm that’s still bringing me back, and that museum, damn that museum...

9/10,  Probably the most flawed, annoying, frustrating, tedious and disappointing best game ever. That’s an achievement.

I'd agree with all of that @Oh Danny Boy.

Nintendo have a real opportunity here to make an excellent GaS game and I hope they don't squander it. Destiny and the like have never really interested me, but I could genuinely see this becoming my 'forever game'.

Extra content (some, at least) is a given over the next few months, but they need to be listening to players and updating the game with these obvious QoL improvements that should have been there from the start. As well as the ones you mention, I'd say that if they are going to stick with the breakable tools then there should be something to indicate how many uses or how much 'health' each tool has left. Something like this:

Contextual button prompts would also be brilliant: every time you stand still by a climbable cliff for half a second you get 'Press A' to climb so that you don't have to pull your ladder out. The same for crossable gaps in rivers and your vaulting pole.

We can but hope, I suppose, although the fact that Nintendo nuked the bunny eggs (to an extent) in response to player feedback is promising. But, then again, this is Nintendo we're talking about...

We'll see. I will say that my enthusiasm for the game has definitely subsided over the last few days; it's taken about 160 hours but I want to play something else now. I'm going to keep checking in each morning, and I imagine there'll be a big surge in my interest at the start of May with new bugs and fish, but if Nintendo don't fix some of these things (including the disastrous online implementation, which I've all but given up with) I almost feel like I won't play it much more out of principle.

(I will, of course, but I'll feel bitter about it.)

I think a few things people need to remember about New Horizons,

All along Nintendo have said “Start your getaway Journey on March 20th”, I believe it was the plan all along to start with a base game and add content monthly etc. To stop people TTing and ruining surprises for the average player. You’ve got to think even after New Leaf had been out for 6 years they were still releasing new content, the camp ground turned up in the last year or so of New Leafs life, it’s not as if they’re going to release the base game and then completely bin it off, it’s one of Nintendo’s MAJOR franchises now. What I honestly believe will happen will be monthly content updates in the way of new features, more furniture sets, monthly events etc. And I can see a couple of big paid DLC packs in the games future, possibly adding a proper second Island that you can build on? Imagine having a separate island to try things out, grow Hybrids on etc.

It has already been announced that new features will come with Earth Day, and what’s that one month after release? I think the major problem here has been people have a ridiculous amount of time on their hands at the moment, I’ve played this game for 220 hours in less than a month, is it any wonder people are getting burnt out when I’ve played this the TWICE OVER the amount of time it took me to 100% Skyrim....in ONE MONTH. I certainly feel that there’s adequate content with the base game and in the next few months I fully expect to see

The Paintings added to the Museum

Gyroids

A Cafe added to the Museum

The Tarot Reader / Dream Suite

Leif adding a Flower shop / Bushes

A massive item update
Possibly Kicks and a Hairdressers

A 3rd Nooks Cranny upgrade

Don’t write the game off already, it’s meant to be a slow burner, put it down and play something else then fall in love all over again when they add more content.

It's not the lack of content that's the issue; it's the nonsensical design decisions. I'd prefer that they fixed those before releasing anything new.
