You’re too kind :)

the phone photos don’t show the amount of gradient going on, I think it needs more shadow though as it looks a bit flat:

Can you get a Thor style helmet in this? Something with wings perhaps?

Well. This shits on my basic efforts. This is incredible.

Also got a wee guy called Kicks in town I have never seen before. Sells bags and shoes and things I have not seen before.

Is there anyway to get the paths without doing via customs designs i.e. is there anyways of buying them? It really annoys me that the sound effect of walking on hard ground isn't present.

Yes, once you unlock the island designer there are a few built in ones you can buy with nook miles

Yeah, while I think some of you have done some amazing custom paths, I've just gone with the standard ones the game gives you and it definitely works well.

Sometimes how they line up with my fences (or rather, don't) winds me up a bit but it's all part of the charm.

A couple of new areas I've been working on recently.

First, my irrigated, renewable energy-powered farm, originally for turnips but now I think I'm going to use it to breed hybrid flowers:

And my basketball 'pit' court with viewing platform:

Need some inspiration now for what to do in my remaining empty areas...

Everyone's island puts mine to shame. I've done nothing other than plonking houses down and now am annoyed about where they all are. My brother got the game 4 days ago and his island already puts mine to shame with the planning and organising he's already began to do. I need to get my act together. Though still need the terraforming stuff.

Same. I'm 8 days in and the extent of my planning so far is to divide my island into five areas for the main fruit trees...but even then I'm immediately hand-wringing over whether destroying too many 'plain' trees is a bad idea because there'll be no blossom next spring?  I'm just going to keep it simple I think and go with the flow. I feel like I need to finish my house first and then bank millions before I can commit to any of the very expensive infrastructure projects (I have *got* to have at least five of those Spirited Away zen bridges).

It's horses for courses, but I've read about some people planning out grids and maps for their islands from the beginning, but that just sounds like hard work to me. Early on, I just plonked down my houses and buildings more or less randomly and since then I've just built round them, which I think gives my island a more natural look. I started off with just grass everywhere, then I added in a few custom paths, then fences/walls and then the terraforming and paths, once I'd unlocked them. Now I'm in a position where I can look at the space I have remaining and the items that I've accumulated and I can think to myself 'Right, what else can I create now?'

When I think back to what the island looked like when I first started the game it's amazing to think how much things have changed. It'd be great if there was some sort of time lapse feature or a automatically generated 'best of' video each month.

Bear in mind as well that new buildings are almost inevitable in future updates, so you don't want to use up all your space just yet. Things like a coffee shop, art gallery and some of the other stuff you eventually unlocked in the earlier games are a dead cert. I might have to boot out some of my villagers to make room.

Gates are open. Come have a wander around, some decent stuff in Able's and some less decent stuff in the Cranny. Nip prices are bottomed out unfortunately.
Dodo Code is M35TV. I'll probably be AFK.

I've got two posters from you, meant to say thanks very much :) I'll boot up shortly and raid your Ables and whatnot.

I find it much more exciting to evolve the island over time rather than plan it out from the start. So far I've moved my Museum three times, both shops once, my house twice and i'm now in the process of moving every villager house one by one. It's fun to know each time I play every day a little bit of the island will change again and I have a new section to redevelop. For larger scale operations it takes multiple days of infrastructure changes for it to come together and I love the slow organic progress of it. I'll be sad when my infrastructure is largely where it needs to be.

You are absolutely right about it needing a time-lapse mode though, that would be ace... I've been taking periodic pictures of the map but its a poor man's substitute.

My plans for my island are constantly changing by what I have available. As I get new items I get new ideas and those ideas might mean I need to change aspects of my house, island, building placement etc. It's one of the things I love about the game.
