@Weavus have you got blue roses from that method? I think red* can only be made via purple and orange

Still working on getting my rose section up and running... so can't confirm the Eurogamer method yet.

I've just realised you can lay paths with 2 'layers'.

Yes can work for adding small extra details like borders etc. Kicking the top layer removes it though which can be a pain...

By the way, what is the actual point of all this hybrid flower breeding?

I've half bothered to do a few of the diamond pattern planting and that and I've got a couple of hybrids and I cleared out a nook miles island of hybrids the other night but what is the end game everyone is working towards?

I've got a few recipes for crowns or wreaths with them but I see a lot of people on visits and the posts about it on here like it's some magical end game tactic.

Simply having them for me. It’s something to excite me in the morning to see what’s popped up.

Im not sure you as an individual can see more than a few species of flowers on nook islands (I’ve only seen my native windflowers and poppies). And so yes you might be able to trade into the other colours of other types but it’s fun to see what you can do yourself.

And then you can decorate your island with your hard work.

Your flower field looks immense. That will take some serious watering!

My thinking is once I have the flowers grown in their own pattern box I just need to water the section I’m interested in breeding. I have 30 5x5 sections so should be able to cover most varieties.

What I mean is you can lay custom paths over normal paths AND custom paths so you don't have to do 'display on ground' from the designer.

I think some insects will only be attracted to certain colours. I only get peacock butterflies around my three blue flowers I nicked from an exotic island, and they sell for loads, which both suggests they’re rare.

Cheers for the replies and I didn't mean to sound glib along the lines of "what's the point of the game" I fucking love it and every single version of ac that's ever existed, I just wasn't sure if there was more to it.

I thought @CovisGodmentioned something many, many pages ago about it being worth starting early and I just didn't know if there was something particularly 'extra' about the hybrids.

I do like the extra colours and have been replanting my hybrids along particular paths for added aesthetics, so I do get and appreciate the pretty side of it all.

Apologies if I phrased the question a bit poorly in the first place, don't get me wrong, AC is one of my favourite game series ever made and any and all "pointless" cosmetic stuff makes me like it even more :D

I've really got into the flower breeding part of the game, focusing specifically on roses. A little success so far with a few black and purples, an orange one and loads of pinks. Have a significant number of reds, whites and yellows so every day it's one additional surprise to look forward to after pressing 'A'

@NexivRed My peacock spawns seem to be coming from my single blue flower. I wish I could find more or manage to breed them but no luck so far :)

I've looked up what I need and I've setup a few new flower fields to test. From tomorrow onwards only my new fields are getting watered. I've read the amount of hybrids that spawn is random so the more range you try to breed at once the less likely you are to get the specific ones you get.

That's where my plan of selective watering comes in once I have enough of any particular type

Not at the moment but put down a brick path say (the ones that you have to buy from the Nook terminal), then you make a custom one with a transparent background and select it in the path maker and you can lay it over the brick path. It doesn't erase the brick path.

There's always the problem of your animals disrupting well laid plans by watering :)

Okay. Is there a pro to that? Just not understanding what effect it has.

I've only used standard designer but it acts like layers on photo shop. So for example I  have the brick underneath and then my DDR arrows on top of them.

Oh, okay I get it. So you can add a drain or something.
