Well I’m enjoying it, but then I’m just taking it chill rather than feeling the need to “grind” out x amount of  points. Had some pretty nice rewards that I like such as a tackle bag, fishing rod rack, fish drying rack, anchor statue and some fancy clothes. Will nicely help decorate around my pier. :)

Been sticking to the ocean since the two eggs I’ve gotten in several runs have both been caught in rivers, not bothered stocking up on bait either because who has time for that.

Agreed. I did some bait to start and trying to catch asany as possible. Now it's just a chilled morning wandering my coast fishing.

People who looked on their notice board earlier in the week, unlike me :/

Had an hour fishing because my daughter was tired and she asked me to. Until I thought, what the hell am I doing?

Can you have two saves in one Switch? Can I have my own character and house and she keeps hers?

You can have a character on her island. But it is one island per switch because Nintendo would rather you bought yourself a switch of your own.

I can't get above 9 in a single run, but I'm tantalisingly close every time. Somehow or other I screw up every single run a little bit, either missing a fish through ineptitude, needing to move a little because I misthrew the bait. Hilariously, the last time was because I accidentally talked to CJ again after he'd started the tournament.

I've had: Fish print T-shirt, drying rack, fishing rod stand and a tackle bag so far. I quite like some of it, so that's good.

Can't see me grinding out 10s of tourneys for 100s of points, but the amount I'm likely to play will be cool enough.

I would have gotten 10 one time, except my first fish was an egg. They should really count them ffs.

So it turns out KK is coming to my island day after tomorrow? I gave the controller to my youngest to fuck about with, and when I glance over, he’s having a conversation with Isabelle and Nook’s on the phone. Amazing.

My island jumped from 2 stars yesterday to 4 today. Thought you needed 5 though? Is he actually coming?

Amazing. I have 9 points to spare. But I seriously cba. All the prizes are fishing related. The only one I cared about was the wand for my museum, but it’s pot luck what you get. I got a fucking massive cooler box ffs. And you basically have to use bait. There’s no point running around looking for fish.

I just got the wand, can stick it in the post for you.

I'm starting to think it might be more enjoyable to leave paths alone and have an entirely grass-based island. I was trying to create a brickwork plaza where my shops are but couldn't lay the paths under the shops, so there are patches of grass all around them. Perhaps it would work if I paid to move the shops, then put down brickwork paths in their place, then moved the shops back, but I don't think I can be arsed.

You only need 3 stars for him to come and give a concert

I'm going for a 1980s French Eurocamp vibe in mine. So mostly grass, mainly the wooden boards pathing, and then permanent fixtures where they make sense (like my outdoor cooking site, or the gym I'm building.)

Anyone know if there are table tennis tables, I assume so? Particularly outdoors ones.

It's mine!

We've got two in the house. It's kept my two busy so it's worth sacrificing my console.

Cheers. I was worried it would overwrite her progress

This doesn't work. If you place a building on paths then it removes the paths underneath it.

It's a shame that a game so focused on the joy of a simple life that includes decorating and idyllic island villages has some glaring restrictions.

Simple is good. I don't want too much detail or control but there are some bits and pieces I don't think complicate anything but make many many more people's ideas and visions achievable:

  • Diagonal paths (not stepped with rounded corners). This is most annoying given that rivers and cliffs support it.
  • Paths connecting to diagonal bridges
  • Paths connecting to the town square brick work
  • Putting paths up to and under buildings.
  • Maybe diagonal fences

Basically paths aren't quite as good as they could be.

The fish tournament isn't really a tournament is it? I thought you'd be competing against the other villagers or something. But it's just a way to win some unique fishing related gear so I don't really understand the level of disappointment towards it. If you don't want some fishy furniture or clothing, don't take part?

It's not like you have to grind for clams either, by the time you've done all that you'd have been better off just taking part in the actual tournament. And you get loads of money for each round too, more than enough to cover the entrance fee.

I've got 4 items and stopped, will probably log in again before it ends and get a few more. That'll do me, grinding for all 30 doesn't sound like much fun. Assume you can win the rest at other tournaments throughout the year anyway?

Is it just me or is there more of everything about today? More clams, more fish, more bugs?

Seems to be loads of bugs for me at least and a lot of the balloons .

I'm so bad at catching fish though.

Yeah, you’re right. Who cares if an event that was hyped up; with big expectations based on past versions, and your villagers going on about it for days, turns out to be a flaccid cock.

After all, you can just not take part

Sorry if this has been asked: If you spend the points on swag do they reset?

Nope.

For every 10 you earn you can claim a price.

Separately there's a cumulative total for which there are rewards with th max being at 300.

I did enough fishing to get a fish umbrella, a drying rack and a fish...purse, but that's me done until later, I think.

I love this game but after 110 hours the amount of new stuff is starting to dry up a bit and I'm not feeling the compulsion to play it for 5 hours or more every day like I was to begin with. Maybe I'll cut down to just 3 hours.

I got a wand as my third prize. Not sure if I'll bother more. Might get a few more if I decide to do some fishing in a more casual basis but meh.

Once your Island is full so you ever get other residents wanting to move in randomly? I want to get rid of one of my residents but as far as I can tell the only way of forcing a replacement is with the NFC cards.
