This probably isn't an appropriate time for this story, given that we shouldn't speak ill of the dead and all that. However, my memory of meeting Darius was at a White Stripes gig sometime around 2008-2010 at Brixton Academy. I was on the first floor balcony with one of my friends, and during the encore Darius came to stand next to us. He was on his phone talking very loudly for the duration of the encore like a total prick, not giving a shit that it was clearly annoying everyone around him. I remember thinking at one point how easy it would have been for him to 'fall' over the balcony... completely accidentally of course.

 

Anyway, I hope he was just having a bad day rather than that being reflective of his character. RIP - 41 is no age at all.
