Warhammer 40k Kill Team GW Campaign NOOBS WELCOME!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I need some pretty urgent help.

I have been invited to start the Games Workshop run Kill Team 12 Week Campaign that starts this week in two days time (12th September).

I have never played before, i assemble and paint but i lack any other real information past that.

I went and brought the Kill Team book so i could at least read the rules etc and try to get my head round it all however i am falling at the first fucking hurdle.

If i give you what i want and if someone could be a fucking gent / lady and help me out i would be super appreciated as i have no clue and i don't want to let them down but i don't want to embarrass myself and give someone an easy win straight off the bat.

Here's the run down!

1) Space Wolves (This is what i have chosen).

2) I have the following models:-

3 x Reivers.

4 x Intercessors (from the magazines).

I have customization stuff i got off ebay and the paints etc which isn't a massive issue.

Now what do i do? Because i'm falling because i don't know how to ID the weapons etc and from there how to write up the sheets and data cards either?

Can anyone please help me?

I'm also on discord if that helps people helping me any easier?

Photos and stuff in the folder at the link below:-

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qh9em79fxeo2n7m/AADSBo_lYkQXLMcym8se7rqha?dl=0

Blank data cards and everything are in there too.

There's not a decent bare bones guide to all this stuff anywhere for the proper beginner like myself, maybe something we could all work on together and stick on YouTube or something just a thought!

Thanks in advance for any and every bit of help!

HI

first off - download battle scribe and use it to build your list. Even though it’s wolves its still just a spacemarine list. It'll tell you what kit each guy can have.

For Marines - you need up to 100 points, a leader and up to 3 specialists.

Your leader must take the leadership specialism.

The other specialists can pick which they want from the available options but can only take each one once.

So for marines you want to put combat on a melee guy, and then a shooty power like demolitions or sniper on your gunners.

You can't use the chain / power swords on the upgrade sprue unless you have an intercessor sarge.

So if you make a reiver sargeant a leader, take the other reiver as a specialist and 2 intercessors as gunner you have 2 intercessors left as non specialists.

Give the reivers grav chutes and grapnels and that's 99 points. Though you could jiggle the mix a bit as they are all pretty much the same cost.

If they are the starter box models your reivers will have combat knives and heavy bolt pistols, your intercessors have bolt rifles. That's it.

List and rules from battlescribe:

Total: [99pts]

Have you got any tactical or scout marines? you could sub some of those in if you wanted sniper or heavy weapons.

Looking at that list again I might be tempted to swap a vanilla intercessor for a reiver if you wanted to be a bit more punchy and less shooty.

I'd also consider painting the bases of your specialists and leaders a different colour so you can tell what is what when playing.

I'm still learning this myself and should really get into my local GW competition for practice

I have two sets from the Magazine that just came out & the rest of my models came from the First Strike kit?

- 3 Primaris Intercessors – clad in Mk X power armour, they are each armed with a bolt rifle and carry grenades. 1 model is a Sergeant, who leads the unit – he has a holstered pistol and is easily identified by his bare, unhelmed head; (THIS SEEMS TO BE THE MAGAZINE SPREWS SO I HAVE TWO SETS)

- 3 Primaris Reivers – again clad in Mk X power armour, these Space Marines carry heavy bolt pistols and combat blades – they distinguished by the sinister skull motif on their helmets, with the Sergeant featuring a half-skull faceplate. (ONE SET OF THESE)

Ok so that's 9 models , 3 sarges, 6 bods. So you need 1 sarge and 5 dudes. I'd be tempted to take at least 2 reivers.

On battlescribe you can take sarges as non leaders,  but you can only have one of each.

you can tweak away in the list builder.

From the couple of games I've played having strong melee is great, as long as you can get close enough to use it with out getting blown away.

I don’t know about the Grenada launchers. I’d talk to the guys at the shop and see if they are strict with wysiwyg.

Otherwise I’d just be like - “red bases are gunners  - they’ve got Grenade launchers too”

Strictly speaking your reivers models don't have carbines and I'd take the pistol/ knife combo anyway as the knife gives you an extra attack.

Otherwise looks good

No sweat dude, I’m still learning the game and my mate plays marines so it’s helping me to know my enemy!

Good luck, I expect updates in your progress.

Going to check in with my local gw tomorrow when they’re open to see if I can join their tourney.

Unless i can rush them tomorrow i really cant see me having my team ready properly.

Although i'm thinking a quick Space Wolves coloring and i can do the customizing another time.

I still don't know how to write the sheets and cards out either which is a little embarrassing and YouTube is no help at all.

I don’t think it will matter if they aren’t fully painted yet.

The cards just need to show what each dude has. So you give each a name and  just fill in the data from the BattleScribe list.

Eg

Reiver Sergeant

Name - Jeff Goodblum

stats as above

war-gear

specialism

etc

worst case scenario - just take the print out of the list and get someone there to help.

Actually. A picture vs 1000 words etc

Here’s one of the example ones from the box set. Do that with your guys data.

I’m not sure demeanour does anything though but I may be wrong.

In your list above you have:

1 Reiver Sergeant (Knife, pistol, no helmet)    [this is your leader]

1 Reiver (Knife, pistol, helmet)

4 Intercessors (Bolt rifle, helmet)  [including 2 specialists - gunners]

In your picture you have:

1 Reiver Sergeant (Knife, pistol, no helmet)

2 Reiver (Knife, pistol, helmet)

1 Intercessor Sergeant (Bolt rifle,, no helmet)

2 Intercessors (Bolt rifle, helmet)

I'd argue that's a better list and would stick a power or chain sword on the  Intercessor Sergeant.

This is the list I was building for myself which would almost work with those models if you ditch the chainsword

That matches the 6 models you have there.

When is the first game?

First game for all stores seems to be tomorrow so i'm going to pop in later today and pick up some bits and go over things with him hopefully.

Just sat at my desk trying to sort out the command roster & data cards.

You going to be taking part in the campaign yourself?

The rules as per my store are below:-

Spoiler

Rules-
To take part you will have to have a filled Kill Team card for each Kill Team you wish to enter, including a Command Roster and Data Cards.

Each Kill Team will start at 100pts and can increase as the campaign continues as describe in the Kill Team Core Rules.

Each Player will of course have to supply their own Kill Team (durr) and own a copy of the Core Rules.

Each team will play at least one game per week for four weeks, this a called a Season, and will gain a stamp for each game they play. After completing your stamp card in the 4th week you will receive a prize.

After each game your Kill Teams resources will be altered. If any of your resources reaches zero then a Kill Team will become a Guerilla Faction and will to bring down the other Teams. A Guerilla Faction cannot win unless they make the other teams Guerilla Factions as well.

At the end of each Season the best kill Team will receive a Medallion to show their victory and each factions best team will receive a Pin Badge.

At the end of the third Season the Best painted Kill Team will receive a signed digital artwork.

Right so I've been to the store...

Basically he said to be careful of Battle Scribe as it adds things up wrong.

Also Kill Team is a WYSIWYG game so I now have to strip anything that you cannot see on the models however I can have the grenades.

Also after chatting to some the regulars (all of whom are under 20 and way to into this compared to me) I have left with a box of Space Marine Scout Squad With Sniper Rifles.

Seems a little bit elitest to me and some were friendly and some weren't.

So now I have to redo most things and get this all worked out for tomorrow.

Nightmare but that said I will also have a larger command roster.

I would have thought your models had everything on them was it stuff like the grapnels? Because fuck buying a £30 box of Reivers just for a 1 point accessory.

So with the roster I guess you pick a whole bunch of guys but only take 100 points worth of them each game? I had glossed over that as only been playing knock around games to date.

Ah thank you I got that earlier.

And yeah it's the Granade Launchers, Grapplers etc.

You can have up to 20 models on the Roster but only use upto the 100 points per team.

Apparently characters "rank up" which costs more points and therefore it'll always need tweaking at some point.

Also everyone told me that I "need" the rocket launcher from it because of some bloat something that alot of people will be using in the other teams and that's the only thing that will kill it.

Bit picky, but i guess they make the rules (and sell the toys)

No idea what that is they are on about, any idea what faction? my mate's got my manual while I was on holiday so i need to get that back

It's easier for me as I only have shooty Death Guard models so my roster for those guys will be simpler.

Champ with Fist and plasma gun

Champ with Fist and plasma pistol

5 Gunners, 2 with plasma, then blightlauncher, plague spewer, meltagun

3 plain plague marines

Should cover most bases.

My first game is next Thursday

I would assume it's going to be some death guard plague nurgle something.

I will find out tomorrow and add it into my notes so I don't forget.

Got a long night ahead of me getting all this stuff done in time.

I've changed the title of the thread hopefully to pull some more the of regulars in.

Ah yeah. Those guys. I’ve the option for 3 out of 6 guys having plasma guns.

I reckon that’ll solve most problems.
