Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (December 2019)

Curious to see the tone and direction this takes.

I’m okay with one last hurrah for Skywalker-fuelled nostalgia to be honest, and then hopefully the franchise will be rested for a few years before coming back with a fresher approach, free of the burden of expectation. Suspect Disney might go down the road of next revamping the original trilogy for 4K to maintain the core money-making but at some point would be nice to have Star Wars looking forward, being a bit more experimental, even if that means a bit more risk (still stings that we didn’t get Lord and Miller’s Solo story). Maybe such a direction will come as Disney+ grows.

Or maybe it all peters out, and every decade we’ll get a reboot or re-release of what we know and for new generations of potential fans (customers) to discover.

So with the trailer being played during half time during some kind of ball kick footsports, and the tickets available straight after, what time is that here?

I want to get in the middle of the back row at the IMAX, same as I got with the other two.

If it’s Monday Night Football it’ll be sometime between 2-3am in the UK.

Presume most cinemas in the UK will go live with tickets any time after 4am Tuesday morning (unless they’ve been given a more precise time to be able to do so)

Guess I’ll aim for opening day here (UAE). Got a gloriously huge IMAX, but also a couple of offensively loud Dolby Cinemas. Hopefully at least one will be in 2D because fuck 3D into the freezing cold sea.

Just watched that, some serious fan service going on again-  spotted

Spoiler

Ghost

in there and it looks like at least 70% of the plot should be easily guessable. Not a bad trailer though , some nice visuals in there. That lightsaber of Kylo's will give him serious gyp one day.

That music from about 1:27 might be the most a trailer has ever really got to me. For all the mixed views on TFA and TLJ that looks absolutely incredible. Of course it may turn out to be nonsense but I have hope. That's where it all started after all isn't it... hope

Indeed. I didn't want to be a party pooper but

Spoiler

dropping the Emperor into this feels like a cynical move to get bums on seats and course correct after Snoke was killed off. Abrams recycling bits of the original trilogy again doesn't really interest me.

As someone who has loved all things Star Wars since as far back as I can remember, if Abrams turns this into another nostalgia-fuelled entry like The Force Awakens, I think it will pretty much kill Star Wars for me. :( I don't hold out much hope after that trailer.

What are Ghost and Colossus?

Ghost is the main ship from the 'Rebels' tv series, Colossus is from the current 'Resistance' one..

We're away over Christmas, so I won't be able to see it until the first weekend in January at the earliest.. :(

Ah right, I don’t know anything of Star Wars outside of the main film series.

Great trailer though.
