"I'm taking these people to Coruscant!"

You made me read that to the rhythm of "They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard!" :(

(Naturally, someone on YouTube has mashed up those two scenes, but it's terrible so I'm not linking to it.)

I never understand your logic, with the kindest regards.

She's been abandoned as a child screaming "come back" to a ship flying off and she's literally in the possession of Unkar Plutt, a horrible filthy space trader who it's very much established that he cares about nothing but money. She's been sold, not just dropped off at school.

It also has that reference to Anakin being sold off as a slave to Watto.

How about we just you know, not get personal in any way shape or form? That'd be great.

I just don't think it fits tonally with TFA. It doesn't contradict anything, but it doesn't feel that's what they were setting up for. Why she's waiting and so focused on that? Why is Luke's lightsaber calling to her and showing visions of Luke's history? Why does she hear Obi Wan whispering?

It's like there's enough there to tease a reveal, but not enough there for the rug pull to be effective. So I don't get the emotionally satisfying bit. Like most of the film, it left me flat.

Then again, the clicking mirror cave thing left me like Krusty after Soviet Itchy and Scratchy so I may just be uncultured.

The Force Awakens is just member berries.

On the left: timeless classic and a masterpiece.

On the right: could have been any low budget action movie

edit: I'm not saying it was low budget, I'm saying it seems like low budget.

The only other thing with Rey that Is unusual was both Han and Leia's reaction to meeting her the first time. It appears that both almost recognise her with Leia's reaction specifically being odd ( The first person to hug Rey literally seconds after meeting her whilst blanking poor old Chewie - does she perhaps convey Han's death through the force to her).

There is also the obvious connection between Rey and Ben that becomes far more evident in TLJ where they are able to communicate directly with each other over vast distances.

I dont necessarily buy the whole Rey is Han and Leia's daughter as they never explicitly state they have a long lost daughter (and it seems massively off character that they would intentonally abandon her) but there is enough here to at least suggest the possibility.

I genuinely hope they don't back down from the 'Rey's parents being nobodies' thing. It was my favourite thing from TLJ by far. They even doubled down on the 'Anyone can be special' at the end with the slave kid with Force powers. If it turns out that Rey is Palpatine's illegitimate daughter or something it'll probably kill the trilogy for me.

I don't think that was ever really positioned as a mystery, was it? We don't know who Finn's parents are, but we don't know who Poe's parents are either.

*pushes glasses up nose* Actually, if you read the not very good Marvel Comics 4-part series Shattered Empire you’ll find that Poe’s parents were rebels who fought in the battle of Endor. Dad was one of the ground troops in Han’s strike team and mum was a pilot in Lando’s squadron. IIRC Poe was conceived during the jub jub celebrations and then grew up on Yavin 4 in a house next to a force-imbued tree that his mum and Luke retrieved from the Emperor’s secret storage facility (I told you it wasn’t very good).

Nah, let's not go through what I did and didn't like about TLJ again. I was merely trying to come up with stuff that could quite easily be reverted by JJ. My point was that even though JJ setup a lot of mystery threads in TFA, a lot of people weren't very happy with how Rian handled them, so maybe they could be dialled back to what JJ was aiming towards - if he even had a plan, that is.

He definitely didn’t. If anybody wants a good illustration of how JJ works, find the interview where the crazy lost fans who have spent years going “tHiS iSNt wHAt jJ hAD iN mInD!!” ask him what his answer to all the Lost mysteries would have been and he explains that he literally had no ideas for answers to any of those questions and just put cool, mysterious stuff in because he wanted it to be cool and mysterious.

Fucking hell! Poe's mum was mates with Luke Skywalker. It's like they're deliberately trying to make the universe as small as it can possibly be.

That was Snoke's doing though, wasn't it? I didn't see it as some natural connection between the two, it was a scheme by Mr Snoke to try and capture her.

I’d normally agree with you about that sort of thing but I think it’s fine in this case. It’s not a stretch to imagine that the child of ideological freedom fighters including an ace pilot would himself go on to follow in their footsteps, nor that his family connections would mean he was known to Leia when she was putting the band back together.

The stuff about the force tree is what really winds me up about that story. Well, that and the Emperor’s secret army of robo-clones designed to continue on his behalf after his death, but I didn’t mention them as they’re nothing to do with Poe.

Do we think rent-a -villian Snoke will get some clever context or reference in this last one?

PREDICTION

Palpatine will be a "Sith Ghost" trapped in the ruins of the second Death Star on Forest Moon of Endor.  He's dead, but his spirit is cursed to eternal damnation to haunt the place of his death as he can not merge with the Force, being himself a massive evil shit. I think this actually is the case with current Star Wars canon and "Sith Ghost" but might be wrong.

The Force connection and projection stuff seen in TLJ is foreshadowing. Palpatine will have projected out to whoever Snoke is and essentially used him as a puppet, slowly taking over his body and manipulating him. That's who Snoke "is" someone in tune with the Dark Side who flew too close and has been possessed by Sheev's evil spirit.

Palpatine now needs a new host, and either/both Rey and Kylo Ren are ideal subjects.

Note : This isn't necessary what I want to see as I don't know what I want to see, I want to be surprised otherwise what's the point in watching anything? But it's a prediction.

My thoughts exactly, Palps is trying to get a powerful host body, most probably Rey as she seems to be the new Anakin (a powerful divergence in the force).

So far he has probably had to put up with inhabiting the occasional Ewok shaman and eventually whomever Snoke is/was (possibly a lost Jedi Knight who escaped the Clone Wars).

:o what if red-eyed Threepio is because Palpatine has finally taken control of his ultimate, functionally immortal, custom-built host body, one that was built for him by a person who’s life he created for that one specific purpose?

”So as you can see, I now have unlimited power, master.”

I like that, the Emperor as Torquemada from 2000AD’s Nemesis the Warlock.

It also harks back to two other massive franchises, Sauron is of course the big bad without form stuck in his tower, and I think something similar with Voldemort? I'm not that versed in the ways of Harry Potter.

Somebody already said something similar to this and it’s a good thought. Are Sith ghosts able to take over a host in the extended universe or something? It’s not something we’ve seen in any of the films yet, is it?

It looks like "Sith Ghosts" being "trapped to their tombs" is a Legends thing yes. They're anchored to the physical world as they can not merge with the Force on death.

Looking at Wookipedia. This isn't in any of the canon stuff - yet - and  certainly none of the films. Think there might be Sith ghost stuff in Clone Wars though.

Yeah, I can see them being similar to the Jedi ghosts we’ve had, but I was more wondering whether they can take over a physical being and sort of become them. It’s definitely an interesting idea and I can totally see it going that way, to at least give Snoke a bit of context.
