Can't wait to see how he horribly dies.

 

After this they're really in the sticks for bringing people back. Denis Lawson has said he doesn't want to be in them, but a dumptruck full of cash might change his mind. After that they'll be triumphantly proclaiming the return of Lobot or that fat bloke who looked after the Rancor.

They really just want this trilogy to crowbar every sodding old character they can don't they?

 

I do hope this means that they're really going to start from a clean slate for the new films.

It's the first meeting after Leias funeral, everyone is sad, unsure what the plan is, with no one to lead them, Finn says "what do we do now we've lost all of our commanding officers"....Chewie spins round in his chair...."I know a guy"

I think it makes sense they brought back characters to bridge to the new films but announcing this before it starts shooting seems a fairly transparent ploy to win back goodwill. I think the biggest overall hurdle is that the story doesn't seem to have gone anywhere and they've 2 or so hours left to wrap it up. I really wish they'd got an overall plan for the three films in place beforehand and perhaps got R1 out first. As it stands, I couldn't give a toss who they bring back as they'd be supporting characters I don't  give a shit about in a plot that's being made up as they go along.

The story hasn't gone anywhere, whaaaaaat? They brought back Luke, redeemed him, and killed him. The rebellion has gone from a substantial fighting force to a handful of people on the Millennium Falcon. They introduced several new characters, and had them kill their parents, discover their heritage, and go from being freewheeling deserters to fervent resistance fighters. They killed off the last of the jedi, and introduced two new ones, one of whom is now the supreme leader of the baddies.

 

Many things happened in TFA and TLJ.

My main fear with Episode IX is that JJ Abrams is in charge. I'm fearing another Abrams special, where every scene is individually fun, but the film as a whole is pretty incoherent. And I'm also fearing a complete failure of nerve by Lucasfilm / Disney after Solo and TLJ, where they make it even more of a replica of the original films than TFA was.

 

If Rian Johnson was writing & directing EPIX, I would be camped out in a sleeping bag outside the Dulwich Picturehouse, waiting for the box office to open, even though it won't open for at least a year, there's no queue, it's not that great a cinema, and I would be dead before the film came out anyway.

My thoughts exactly, only I would add that if we do get another TFA next year then, on the whole, I'll still be very happy with how the sequel trilogy turned out. Two crowd-pleasing adventures bookending a genuinely great middle act doesn't seem that far removed from what we were given between 1977 and 1983, plus this time we'll also have had two fine spin-offs on top, all in the space of four years. What's not to like?

I have nothing to go on other than that Mark Hamill has said on many occasions how much hates the beard and that it’s going as soon as he finishes with Luke, but posted a picture of himself with James Gunn a couple of weeks ago still sporting it. So that’s a resounding ‘possibly’.

I really wonder where they’re going to go with this. TLJ ends with them rebuilding the resistance. 

 

I’m hoping Ep IX is set a few years down the line, Leia is gone (sadly we probably won’t get the Kylo/Leia confrontation that’s been building), the Resistance is back and ready to roll and we can get this whole thing wrapped up. 

 

 

I really want the next inevitable trilogy to go in a new direction. This Empire Mk2 vs Resistance Mk2 thing just feels like such a missed opportunity to do something different with the most beloved sci-fi universe in existence.

The way The Last Jedi ended it feels like the next one is the start of something rather than the end. There was basically nothing I wanted walking out of the film. 

 

I sort of hope things end scrambled rather than destroyed. We can still revisit Rey and Finn and Kylo in some different context later. Though at the same time I don't want the inevitable X to just be a simple follow on from IX. Argh, dunno.

EPIX is an awesome name. 

 

If Rian was directing it the internet would explode (and dieing in a q waiting for it would probably be a mercy lolol). 

 

Bringing Lando back makes all sorts of sense. Wonder if they'd been thinking it before of after his turn in Solo?
