Morbius the Living Vampire - Sony Spider-Man spin off

Recommended Posts

Jared Leto seemingly confirmed to star in the film we've all been waiting for, the adaptation of B-list Spider-Man villain Morbius, continuing Sony's apparent quest to spin off a film of every Spider-Man villain they can.

Sony, please stop.

Is he a blood sucker or this or is it steal "life force" via creepy hand holes like TAS?

B-list?

That's being generous.

I was going to go D list but I couldn't remember if he'd featured in some seminal storyline than elevates him somehow, so split the difference.

Pretty much my entire knowledge of the character comes from the 90s cartoon tbh.

Whoa there, Morbius may be D-list in terms of the MCU but his comics pedigree is top-tier; he's been handled by Roy Thomas, Gil Kane, Steve Gerber, Doug Moench and the brilliant Tom Sutton, among others. There were some beautifully drawn Morbius stories published in Vampire Tales in the 70s, all gibbets and fog and Gothic atmosphere. There's loads of potential in a Morbius film, although of course this one will be rubbish.

Who?

Exactly.

I have read over 500 Spiderman comics and I haven't got a clue who he is, apart fromn he is on the front cover of a Spiderman omnibus I want to buy.

I had a comic book in the 70s where he was the main villain and Spiderman grew two extra pairs of arms. Can’t remember anything about the comic other than it being confiscated at school by Miss Graves. The story was definitely covered in the 90s cartoon though.

I watched Brain of Morbius again on the Twitch stream recently, he should be in the Spiderman comics!

Matt Smith has been cast. Supposed to be a major role, but being kept secret for now.

500 new issues from the last five years? He's definitely been in ASM in the last 500 issues. But I guess maybe if you started with the sixties ones then skipped past the nineties you might read that many without seeing him mentioned.

Is it for Morbius, the Living Vampire?

I for some reason pictured Matt Lucas instead of Smith then imagined a half George Dawes / half morbius and now I'm happy.

Supposedly first pic of Mikey Morbius, Plasma Fiend has leaked:

Gone for the screengrab in case it is legit but gets taken down. Probably the best Leto's looked in years.

Well that SUCKED.

Hah.

Vampire humour. (It looks like dog shit)

At least it looked a bit better than TAS where he took "Plasma" from people from his hand suckers

That looks terrible! Has Sony produced anything Spider-Man that's not crap after Spider-Man 2? I can only think of the recent Spider-Man game and Into the Spiderverse (both absolutely brilliant, credit where credit is due), but no decent live action movies.

The last 30 mins of Venom were pretty good after a very average first hour.

Y'know, thinking about it, I'd actually prefer a version based on the 90s cartoon - those lamprey sucker hands were creepy as shit, far more so than this generic looking bobbins they've got going on here.

Looks like its going to be part of the Spiderman universe (and possibly MCU) with Spiderman on the wall with "Murderer" graffiti'd across it, as well as Adrian Toomes there at the end (The Vulture).

Oof that was rough.

That clunky line about “sonic positioning” or whatever. Why the hell include that in your trailer?

Gotta appeal to that sonar market!

Rougher than a badgers todger.

I really hate the way Sony makes these films look. Generic high tech lab and then tonnes of soft focus and golden hue. Looks dreadful.
