I'm playing as a mage and blasting fools! Was terribly disappointed when I finally arrived on the island - I really thought I was going to arrive on a Risen-like island but it turns out it's still the same old separate sandboxy areas, divided by loading screens.

After making peace with that, I'm having fun with it. It's very AA and janky*, and even though it's by far Spider's most impressive game yet - their ambitions are still writing cheques that their capabilities can't cash. Everything is so much bigger and vast than their first RPG, that Mars thing, but with their current capabilities a game on that smaller scale could have been awesome.

It's janky and fetch questy, but for now it's keeping me entertained until the new toys arrive. Playing as a mage is fun.

*Edit: less janky than Andromeda though lolol

Play as a mage. First boss - the one which travels underground - is tedious but quickly after that you will slice through mobs.

I haven't met this boss yet, but I'm doing as many side quests as I can before advancing the main story and magic is hilarious :D While exploring I stumbled across an optional (?) (might be part of a quest later) big bad boss, a so-called Plains Guardian. It had all kinds of skulls on his health bar, a hint before it's lair outright said that I needed poison weapons to stand a chance. Went down first try  It took awhile, but I also have the magic dash slide, so ut was just a matter of zap zap zap whilst slide straving like a madman. Play as mage was the best advice ever :D

When you unlock group stasis as a mage, you basically unlock god mode :D

Spamming magic missile fills up your adrenaline bar and group stasis uses adrenaline rather than magic. So you simply stasis the whole lot, spam one unlucky enemy with magic missile which also happens to stagger. Then hit group stasis again. Calmly drink a magic potion, spam magic missile again.

oh and group stasis also makes enemies more vulnerable to magic when you level it up for additional lols

Finished the arena quest this way no sweat, despite all the latter enemies having hella red skulls on their health bars. Maybe later on someone will be immune to stasis, but if not...

I'm still having fun with this and I don't mind being overpowered. It's definitely a B-rpg and I would likely give up if it was too difficult. Now it's a fun by the numbers experience with an interesting setting. Ambitious and interesting ideas too, but Spiders isn't quite capable enough to do them justice.

This is still on my to play list ^_^ I'm playing through reckoning remastered and then going to move onto this before I start any new gen stuff I think :)

I was enjoying it when I played it but for some reason I lost my save and haven't returned to it since :(

Still playing this and I'm near the end! Took my sweet time completing every companion sidequest (Aphra became my girlfriend) and every faction sidequest. On my status screen every faction and companion is "friendly" towards me, so I'm hoping to get whatever the good ending is. Main criticism: way too much forced going back and forth between NPCs that live miles apart, especially in the latter half of the game.

I finally reached the point where I'm supposed to fight this boss I mentioned here. Turns out it's one of the final bosses towards the end! The NPCs were all warning me, that there's a powerful guardian protecting that place - beware! And I was like oh yeah that guy lol I killed him back when I was level 5 or so and casually exploring. Magic is so op in this!

Everyone else is either really excited or genuinely concerned about the new consoles with shiny new games, and I'm over here solo bumping the B-game ass Greedfall thread so that it pops up next to Demon's Souls lol. For anyone reading, it feels like I'm really close to the end now. I must be crazy but I caught myself seriously considering doing a new game plus if there is one - it's just good throwaway b-tier RPG fun.

It's the sort of game, like Plague Tales or Vampyr, that seems to have been missing from the release list this year.

So I did well saving it until now :)I'm hoping Piranha Bytes is working on something. Preferably something not involving pirates, the first Risen is my favourite and despite completing both sequels I never warmed to them like the first.

And finished! I managed to unite all the factions and restore balance and harmony to the world. Biggest drawbacks were the absurd amount of traveling required between the different areas which got worse further in, and the amount of filler. Funniest moment was that I managed to charm convince skill check the religious fanatics to renounce their beliefs, an entire nation of extremists throwing up their arms saying yeah fair enough God doesn't exist we were wrong. If only that worked in the real world! There's also a few moments where the story doesn't really line up, Spiders again biting off more than they can chew. But overall a fun B-RPG.

@Cosmic_Guru I never finished Elex! Got a good way in but was probably distracted by another game and kinda forgot about it until you mentioned it. In my head Risen 3 was their most recent game lol. I might go back and start over with Elex, Greedfall has made me want to play moar RPG.

Picked this up on the deals for gold for £12. Never heard of it before but liked the concept and setting so thought it’s worth the risk to chance it. Enjoying it a lot so far, loving the setting too. I see myself dropping quite a few hours into this.

Isn't it something to do with how PlayStation handles these updates? It's a whole separate game you just get free access to if you own the original game - and you technically don't 'own' the games on ps plus.

Meanwhile on xbox it's just a big patch so it doesn't matter if you own it or have it on gamepass.

Afaik making their own custom solution to crossgen savegames and upgrades costs effort therefore time therefore money. Could be that a small B-tier dev just doesn't get the go ahead from their publisher, especially not on a relatively obscure game like this? While on Xbox all that is automatic/handled by the platform holder side, so you get situations like this.

Just speculating here. But in my experience "the devs couldn't be arsed" is almost never the actual reason for things like this.

If anything, I think it's more work for them to split it into PS+ and non-PS Plus owners, so I definitely don't think it's a couldn't be arsed thing. (Disclaimer: not an expert in Sony weirdness.) But I don't think it's a "can't be arsed" thing anyway. I think someone decided they wanted more money.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's an intentional decision rather than because of hardware limitations etc, I did read something a while back that sony charge for cross play which is why so few games do include it yet continue to be a feature on the xbox and pc where it's free.

So yeah my guess is just another way for them to take an additional bit of income, the only way people are likely to upgrade is through the store rather than buying physical where sony take a sizeable cut.

It’s a bit of both. Sony backend is archaic and a nightmare to deal with, meaning actually making this stuff work as effortlessly as it does on Xbox costs time and money for the dev and there is so many edge cases of stuff like “these title IDs can upgrade but if you have this specific title ID from a specific release then it doesn’t count” etc.

Sony is by far my least favourite platform holder to deal with when it comes to this stuff.

It also sucks because the immediate reaction is almost always “lazy/greedy devs” rather than “For fuck sake Sony”. Not in reference to anyone here but just looking at replies to their recent tweets about it there is so many people saying they’re not interested in their future games now etc because the free game they got with PS+ Doesn’t also get a free next gen upgrade. 😂
