Kicking off E3 this year are the company that always disappoint, so I assume we’re mostly entering EA Play with our expectations set to “meh”. Maybe this year they’ll avoid having an awkward, cringe inducing show, but I wouldn’t bet a testicle on it.

 

Last year, EA Play was not great. A Way Out was announced and looked promising, though Josef Fares didn’t really kick the promotion into gear until The Game Awards. After their avant garde theatre piece successfully sold FIFA’s story mode in 2016, they decided to add story modes to Madden, NBA and Need for Speed Payback as well. FIFA also had a story mode trailer, maybe for the sequel to the original story mode? It all kind of blurs together after a while. Having teased Anthem, they moved into a long presentation of Battlefront II, including awkward actors and nobody’s favourite planet, and they proudly talked about how people would be playing the game for years to come.

 

In terms of games that are already announced and confirmed for this year, Battlefield V was announced last week, and was confirmed as being at the show in multiplayer form. I’m sure we’ll get the usual SPORTS talk, maybe with an awkward celebrity or an out of place monologue. Anthem is also confirmed, so we’ll get more “gameplay” from that and hopefully some concrete details on its release. Update: Unravel 2 has been confirmed as appearing.

 

In terms of possible things, a Battle Royale game still seems plausible even though it’s been confirmed not to be a mode in Battlefield, because EA fucking love a bandwagon. The recent Burnout Paradise remaster could theoretically have been laying the groundwork for a new entry, and there are definitely a team at Bioware working on a new Dragon Age game, though murmurs about them all being drafted onto Anthem mean this might still be a way away.

 

Rumours suggest Respawn’s Star Wars game is a possibility, and though it’s probably too far out to see we might get a single image or clip, or the old EA favourite of some developers talking about it in a really expensive looking office. There’s also been a Titanfall tease of some kind being talked about, but it came from a fan site rather than the developers themselves so requires a big old pinch of salt.

 

The dream of Skate 4 still lives on and continues to burn brightly in the hearts of the faithful, alongside a new SSX title. With EA now on Star Wars it’s also theoretically possible that Knights of the Old Republic 3 might finally become a reality, though that might just be something I’m still clinging desperately to.

I expect at least five minutes of talk about how they've been listening to player feedback and they love the passionate community so much so all of their games will not contain lootboxes. Then they'll reveal something that is basically a lootbox in all but name.

Titanfall 2 remains my favourite game this gen, so any sniff of a new one would put a big old smile on my face. I'm still patiently awaiting Crysis Trilogy Remastered. There was actually somebody on PSN caught playing Crysis 2, so unless that was spoofed, it should be well on the way. A new Burnout would be great too. I've been rinsing Burnout Revenge since it was made backwards compatible, so another game in that vein would be fantastic.

I'd love a new Titanfall. Announce it at E31 and release it next spring. DON'T release it around the same time as COD and Battlefield again. March like number 1 would be good :)

This is the only conference that could possibly not show a single game I'm interested in. It depends on how the unknowns turn out, but I already know the shootmans V, Online McShooties, and various SportsMans 20XX arent for me. However, last year EA was incredibly entertaining with a bunch

of stoned celebs wandering around, looking for their backpack full of weed, and their leader Snoop playing Battlefield 1 with a big blunt, ending up at (according to his visible results screen) zero kills and zero deaths. I only hope we get less focus put on those cringe YouTubers this time around.

Well, despite the general tone of this thread, I’m currently sat at the hype train station. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 3 on Switch would make me lose my shit. It’s been too long since I’ve eaten my enemies online.

I'm hyped, everything I've heard about BFV sounds amazing and we get to see some proper MP footage today! Anthem looks interesting and like others here if there was any mention of a Titanfall 3 in development then that and BFV could make this my favourite conference of E3.

 

I shall definitely be cracking open a bottle of wine for this later :)

I'll probably skip it as well. It's being presented by Andrea Rene so it won't be a complete shitshow but with the number 'influencers' they'll have on stage and the last EA game I cared about was Mirrors Edge 2.

EA always have the worst, most boring conference each year, without exception, being the risk-averse creatively bankrupt company that they are. Will put on in the background in case a miracle occurs and something interesting happens (and also for proper Anthem gameplay maybe).

The year before last was the one where they fuck all to show so they had to resort to video tours of offices, awkward interviews with bearded dev men talking about their Star Wars toys and the occasional wireframe render of something that may or may not be cancelled now. Last year was when they wheeled out a bunch of 'influencers' and we all came to the surprising discovery that barely out of teens in beanies who spend their time screaming incoherently in a headset don’t actually make stunning stage presences.
