Only on chapter 2 and that was after spending most of yesterday pootling around Kamorucho.

Is there an event finder in the game. Hate missing side stories.

Most probably, all of the last few games did, although I haven't come across it. Wouldn't surprise me if it's hidden in a safe.

I also would like an encounter finder. Just starting the 2nd chapter and only come across 3 side stories, despite wandering around the map hoping to trigger some. So don't know if it’s just because I've missed them, especially with tons of nooks and crannies and buildings you can go insider if they’re just not unlocked yet.

There's only 52, which is a lot less than zero.

Just began Chapter 4.  So spoilers for Chapter 3 follow.

I didn't follow much pre-release hype so didn't actually expect to arrive in another town so soon. That said, a little disappointed with Hiroshima. I know it's going for the small town vibe, but it doesn't make it an interesting place to wander around. Hopefully the only time I spend here is to hang out with my Baseball boys (including the main kid from Battle Royale!) and I quickly head back to Kamarucho.

Oh, and I christened my Yakuza glasses last night. Didn't have any whiskey in the house though so ended up with vodka. Kiryu would kick the shit out of me if he were here. :(

Chapter 3. There's a severe lack of money -- I think small amounts drop very occasionally from fights, but only occasionally. I wanted to check out the cabaret club but literally couldn't afford it. Basic purchases tends to add up (food, etc, but mostly spent on cat food because I'd hate to not have every type of cat food when I see a cat).

You can find a code on the internet to open the safe on the roof of Serena's -- inside is supposedly a ranbow bun... and a million yen. That's totally cheating. But what do you think? I'm tempted if money is going to be this tight.

Go for it. The other decent way to make cash is off clan battles, but this isn't a game where 'cheating' will negatively affect the experience one bit.

The Yakuza drop more money than your random thugs. Once Clan creator opens up, that will shower you with cash.

I really liked going to Hiroshima. But I'd been absolutely rinsing side content in Kamurocho, so the change of pace was quite nice. Fair play to the devs, the place feels incredibly atmospheric, love the lighting along the seafront at night. The attention to small details in the environment is really impressive. For example you have to go to a barbers at one point and the net curtains and peeling posters in the windows looked realistically faded and ratty, really capturing the feel of a rundown town left behind after industry mostly leaves (coming from South Wales, I've seen my fair share of such windows).

Walking around in the hills behind the town reminded me of Your Name, I don’t think it’s a complete coincidence as two of the sub-stories in this area contain...

A teenage boy and girl swapping bodies and somebody leaping their consciousness through time.

Finished the main story there now and what a fucking game, absolutely loved it and thought it was a pretty damned decent end to Kiryus story.  In order terms I'd probably put it behind 0,2 and maybe 3 but it's definitely up there for me.  I also really liked that we were playing only as Kiryu again, that's something I personally like a lot.  The new engine is pretty damn sweet, it's hilarious getting into scrapes and then knocking the enemies into a Poppo store whilst destroying everything around you.  Combat feels really really good.  Only thing I'm really missing is the 60fps from Y0/Kiwami but apart from that really liking the new engine.  Even little touches like Kiryu checking his watch or flexing his arm/shoulder whilst walking after a fight.

You can tell that most of the time was spent on the new engine as the amount of content, whilst still being very good for any game, isn't what you would get say in Yakuza 0, an engine they obviously worked with for a long time.

In regards to the ending

I thought that it was actually pretty satisfying and something that made sense in regards to Kiryus character.  It's something he would do to protect his family whilst leaving it open for him to return (i'm guessing thats also just in case the fans hate the new character they're coming up with).  But overall I was very happy with it, a lot more surprisingly as I'd heard many japanese fans didn't like it, I thought I'd hate it

Still got some sidestories to do and a few other things and roll on Kiwami 2!

The 'Live Chat' mini game is also laugh out loud funny as well.  Especially the text 'chat' where you have others chatting away with names like 'treefiddy'    The Yakuza localisation team continue to do brilliant work.

So progress continues.

Baseball minigame unlocked and onto trying to beat the third team.

Seafishing I’m stuck trying to take down that darned octopus. So I can get a new member for the aforementioned baseball team.

Bar friends done 3 of those side stories now and on my way to becoming a regular in the bar which will help with the previously mentioned octopus.

Clan create level 2 and it’s ok so far but not a patch on running the hostess club and real estate games in 0.

It’s the most polished Yakuza yet but I have to say the combat is a step back from the three fight styles I’ve gotten used to playing 0 and Kiwami.

Chapter 3, just arrived in Onomichi. What a great change of scenery. Looking forward beating up the locals. But I have to say, so far Kiryu is making some bad parenting choices.

Buying onigiri for a 1 year old, drinking in a bar instead of buying milk. But I’m glad the whole kidnapping a baby from the hospital scene was resolved quickly. Thanks Date-san.

That whole bit was hilarious.

Child Protection Services: Hmmmm don't think you're really a suitable guardian.

Kiryu: Rubbish!

/Has massive fist fight in the the baby's room

Please tell me I'm not the only one who dragged Akiyama over to the baby's crib in case you could do a heat move involving him.

I love the completely weird cameos from real people that show up in the sub stories in these games. Kiwami had an apparently famous judo guy, and as well as the standard real porn stars I just met

a legendary darts player

in this one. Wtf.

I had to google who he was. Missed opportunity. Should have gone with

Phil the Power Taylor

for even more weirdness.

Yep. I'm hoping for GTA VI to be set in Amsterdam and

Raymond Barneveld

to be a quest giver.

I really will have to use that internet code to get a million yen when I get back to Kamurocho (I'm on chapter 4 in the other town now). I'm totally running out of money, hovering around 5,000 yen. I don't even think I've wasted much... mostly spent on meals for healing, and cat food. The single biggest expense was early on when the girl wanted a Haruka picture that cost 50,000. I didn't realize that I'd never see another 50,000. Enemies aren't dropping anything at all, and I'm worried that I will literally not be able to afford food to heal soon. Money was never like this in Zero or Kiwami.

You don't need to spend that money on the picture btw. I didn't and things worked out anyway.

I have so much money I spent a million yen to sign a baseball player. Didn't care a jot.

You don't need to spend it. But the second part of the quest didn't triggered for me until I had enough money to buy the picture.
